Today, the influential, independent French artist Laylow, reveals the music video for the second single Spécial fr Nekfeu & Fousheé HERE. The collaboration with Nekfeu, the best-selling French artist from the last 10 years and American R&B sensation Fousheé is from his cinematically and fantastically inspired gold status sophomore album L'Étrange Histoire de Mr.Anderson (= The Strange Story of Mr.Anderson) via Parisian collective and label Digitalmundo (7.16 release) HERE.

“Special people are harmful, deviant and sometimes dangerous beings. Hidden in the darkest corners of our cities, they try to exist according to their own standards, shirking their responsibilities and forgetting the common good. The Mr. Anderson Hospital is a public interest institution responsible for locating, apprehending and neutralizing these deleterious beings, in order to build a healthier society, where personal ambition and dreams are eradicated.
In this video, we follow the adventures of 3 of these special people and their vain attempt to escape the system.”
This generational track invites young people to believe in their dreams, despite the obstacles imposed by those around them and society, as well as mental health issues. It reflects the personal journey of Laylow, who has gradually built his career, from his departure from Toulouse in the South of France to his status of number 1 of the French charts.
Laylow is the moniker of French-Ivorian rapper Jeremy Larroux who was born and spent his formative years in Toulouse. After being expelled from many schools, he moved to attend high school in Ivory Coast where his mother lives, and where he reconnected with his roots and family, and learned from his mother’s passion for the “Négritude” movement as well.
He produced multiple mixtapes between 2016-2019, and released his debut platinum album Trinity in 2020. For the new album L'Étrange Histoire de Mr.Anderson, he collaborated with multi-platinum French rappers like Nekfeu, Damso, Hamza and Alpha Wann, as well as UK’s Slowthai and America’s rising artist Fousheé.
On June 4th, the album release was preceded by the short movie L'Étrange Histoire de Mr.Anderson, le film HERE, which uniquely introduced people into the new album’s world and its characters. Laylow’s art is steeped in film: after signing his first deal with Universal Music France at the young age of 17 and being dropped a few months later, he decided to study cinema at university and created TBMA, a directing duo responsible for 50 music videos for artists such as Nekfeu, MZ, Asap Ferg, Keith Ape, etc.
In this new coming-of-age story about self-fulfillment, creativity and the struggles to achieve success, Laylow tells his story with a creative vocabulary borrowed from fantasy movies such as Tim Burton’s to 90's-2000's rap music aesthetics.
Topics such as racism and domestic violence are prominently explored on Laylow’s new effort L'Étrange Histoire de Mr.Anderson and he uses an organic approach creating the music; working with musicians more than beatmakers, while using real instruments such as analog keyboards, classic pianos, electric guitars, instead of emulated instruments (VSTs).
