"Prepare to be uplifted by the soulful vocals and messaging on self-love that fills the artist’s new track." - WONDERLAND MAGAZINE
Alicia Walter, the former leader of Chicago-based art-rock outfit Oshwa, has dropped her third and final single “Standing at Your Doorstep”, ahead of her upcoming debut album I Am Alicia and along with it a magnificently grandiose video. Directed by Lisa Schatz and choreographed and cast by Rachel Harris the video for “Standing at Your Doorstep” is a West Side Story-Esque production full of New York skylines, incredible camera work, dancing, and vibrant color; a video so ambitiously executed that it’s easy to forget that it’s not the intro to a big-budget motion picture. Of the song Alicia explains “Here I am belting a classic lover’s repent, “I'm so-o-o-rry!” I’ve strayed and I can see the error of my ways now, and I'm committing to my return — in this case, committing to my true self. I’ve let myself splinter into parts that don’t make up a whole, and I don't want to make that mistake again. I’m devoting to me, to being all who I am, because I love her — accepting all of me is the key to unlocking my happiness.”
I Am Alicia is available on September 17th via Chicago tastemaker label Sooper Records. Co-produced by Walter and Devin Greenwood (Sufjan Stevens, Steve Reich, Norah Jones) the album is a bold retelling of Walter’s self-discovery that encourages the listener’s own story to take root in its universal truths. Embracing influences spanning from jazz and the classic composition of American standards to hip-hop and new wave to build her own brand of eclectic-pop the album serves as “a hero’s journey through the unconscious, driven by my desire to experience who it is I am, inside, and what it is I do in this life, outside.”
