“A Heartbreak soundtrack fit for Jane Fonda".
-FLOOD
“The video for "Home," which counters the song's upbeat atmosphere with cheery guitars and synths, sees Nistico casting a sinister light on scenes of domesticity intercut with more classic horror tropes like a midnight graveyard and a deranged looking clown adding to the overall surreal Lynchian vibes.”

Los Angeles, CA, July 16, 2021 – Today indie horror pop darling and Brat Pop HOLYCHILD co-founder Elizabeth Nistico follows the release of three successful singles – “Earthquake,” “Manifest,” and “Home” – with the release of her bewitching solo debut EP as Revenge Wife, Background Songs For Your Boring Life, Part I. Inspired by dreams, mystical experiences, and overcoming trauma, the songs provide a vehicle for Nistico to open up about the experiences that have shaped her life. The collection of haunting songs – including the bonus track “Lucifer’s Gf” – is tied together by a series of surreal, self-directed videos that combine to tell a single nightmarish story. Mixing lo-fi production with personal lyrics, Nistico crafts a unique style of sad girl indie /electro bedroom pop that echoes a variety of influences ranging from the DIY ethos of Beck to theatricality of Electric Light Orchestra and the danciness of ABBA. In celebration of the release, Revenge Wife presents a special live debut performance at LA's Moroccan Lounge on August 5 featuring support from Derek Ted and DJ sets by Magdalena Bay, Disco Shrine and Jen Awad.
Tickets available here.
“Earthquake” kicks off the EP with pulsating, vintage synths and catchy melodies, clever 90s’ video game inspired samples, and raw lyrics that focus on relationships and trying to trust love. “'Earthquake' is an earnest song about unrequited love... which is a nice way of saying ‘rejection’. It’s about loving someone who doesn’t love you back,” Elizabeth states. The song was featured in Billboard’s 10 Cool Songs This Week.
On "Manifest", the highly addictive anti-capitalist bop featuring sputtering 1990s beats and Casio keyboard licks, Nistico sings about wealth disparity and her own broke state. In response to the motivational self-help directive to "manifest" success and wealth, Nistico offers a full-throated and comical "Fuck that.”
Musically, the production on "Home" which is co-written and produced by Magdelena Bay, is Phil Collins meets 10cc’s “I’m Not in Love,” plus Michael Jackson’s “Man in the Mirror.” “It’s my NY/LA long distance song,” Nistico says. “The three hour time difference makes its way in all the lyrics.”
Her newest single, "Dream I Had" (video out July 28), opens as a lighthearted R&B-tinged song before transitioning into a pumping power pop anthem wherein she sings “You’re just a dream I had/You’re just the one who always gets away” as a powerful wall of harmonies back her up. “I wrote those lyrics when I was feeling so lost,” Elizabeth says. “The verses are from the point of view of my higher self, or my guides. They’re like, ‘We’re here! We wait for you all the time, you’ll never even understand our depths and we’re right next to you.’ And the choruses are from my mortal form… 'I only dream about you, you always seem so elusive.’ I’m always trying to reconcile where I stand and how I can be closer to the happiest, more aligned version of myself, and that’s evident in ‘Dream I Had’. I originally wrote it on ukulele, but then I got in the studio with my good friends (and virtuosic musicians) Taylor Dexter and Ryder Bach, and the production really came together in a New Order way,” Nistico says.
And lastly, the bonus track "Lucifer’s Gf" is like a Strokes disco track until it devolves into a piano part reminiscent of System of a Down.
All together, the EP showcases Nistico at the top of her creative powers as a singer, songwriter, and video director without parallel. “These songs feel so personal to me, but more importantly, the only agenda I had while making them was trying to understand myself better. It feels so good to be in a place where I can put music out and not be tied to a label literally telling me to ‘make a hit.’ I’ve been describing the EP as weird pop to anyone who asks, like at a bar or something, and it feels so good to me. I think it’s accessible without being baseless. It’s so personal but I think it’s still inviting. There’s a balance to everything that I’ve been working on which is so pleasing to me. I want to live in a world where I really am free as an artist to express and I hope this EP, especially coming out of two album releases already with HOLYCHILD where I was the lead singer... I hope I can show how I am evolving as an artist.” - Elizabeth Nistico
