Sody unveils latest single “Charlotte,” the heartbreaking first insight to her up-coming EP out this May. Listen here and watch the lyric video here.
A deeply moving track about a loss of friendship, “Charlotte” touches on the painful realities of what it really means to miss someone who let you down. Personal and expressive, Sody paints a beautiful picture with her authentic lyrics and delicate vocals, simultaneously offering support and comfort to her fans whilst using her music as a tool to help deal with her own experiences.
Speaking on her new release, Sody explains: “I used to have a best friend called Charlotte but years ago we stopped being friends. Recently she reached out to me and all the happy memories we had together came flooding back. It really upset me because I thought she would be my friend forever. So, I wrote this song for all the people that have had a Charlotte at some stage in their lives and deep down secretly miss them and wonder if they’re okay.”
An artist on the rise, Sody is on an emotional journey to the top. At only 19 years old Sody has had tracks featured on Love Island UK and amassed an impressive 50+ million collective streams.
Her visceral rollercoaster single ‘Nothing Ever Changes’ set the stage for former EP I’m Sorry, I’m Not Sorry, which has gained over 3.4 million listens since it came out in December 2019. Full of reflection and spine-tingling acoustic sounds, the record was a hit with fans and put Sody in a great position for 2020. Co-writing credits and production included Sacha Skarbek (Miley Cyrus, Lana Del Rey), Toby Scott (Little Mix) and Frances (Maisie Peters, Jess Glynne).
Not shy to admit that she wears her heart on her sleeve, Sody states “being honest is my thing”. Her music is a complete reflection of that, with coming-of-age songs such as “Maybe It Was Me,” “Let You Know,” “Whole (demo),” “I Don’t Know You Anymore,” and “The Bully.” In 2019, in support of “The Bully,” Sody passionately advocated for anti-bullying by partnering with UK organization Ditch The Label and travelled the UK giving talks about her bullying experience in high schools. In the US she is partnering up with Half The Story, whose mission is to empower the next generation’s relationship with technology and digital wellbeing, through advocacy, education, and providing access to resources for youth.
Sody has the ability to craft heart-rending pop with an emotional sincerity that exceeds far beyond her young age. With true raw talent, a complex maturity within her songwriting, 1.2 million monthly Spotify listeners and a loyal group of followers, Sody is set for an exciting year.
