Leuven, BE (3.27.20): BRUTUS reveal their new heavy hitting single, "Sand". The track comes in celebration of the one year anniversary of their sophomore release, Nest, which was released to overwhelming high acclaim in March of last year and cemented the band as one of rock's most visceral and promising acts. "Sand" which was initially recorded for Nest, comes with an accompanying video created from live footage of their last intensely emotive show in Ghent just four weeks ago. The band adds: "If we want to share awesome moments like these again in the near future, we all need to be responsible concerning the COVID-19 virus measures and stay home."
"Sand" is available today via Sargent House on all digital platforms. Brutus's U.S. tour dates have been cancelled at this time due to COVID-19; updates to come.
Praise for Nest:
Nest, Nest feels like a primal howl, a raging fire, a force of nature. Describe it in those terms, though, and you've inadvertently erased the entire process - the discipline, the dedication, the painstaking, life-encompassing labor - required to create a work of art that feels like this." STEREOGUM (Best New Albums of 2019)
"Their conscientiously constructed rock is filtered through punk, black metal, post-rock and post-hardcore lenses, and it's centered on the sometimes cutthroat, sometimes crushingly beautiful lead vocals of Stefanie Mannaerts"
PASTE (Essential Punk Albums of 2019)
"Potent and haunting, the dueling beauty of singer-drummer Stefanie Mannaerts' evocative voice with the layered distortion of her stringed counterparts makes for not only a gorgeous album, but also a unique one - perhaps no one else so far this year has achieved such a refreshing sound." REVOLVER (Best New Albums of 2019)
"The group still sits comfortably on the timeline of assaultive hardcore-meets-post-rock acts from Refused on through to White Lung, and Nestpolishes its punishing riffs and genre-bending explorations into a potent and cohesive whole." AV CLUB
"Mannaert's voice is a force of such terrifying, emotive power... Formidable and flawless... when Brutus lock into their groove, nothing can stop them." KERRANG!
"It's part ethereal wave, part post rock, part D-beat, and drummer/singer Stefanie Mannaerts' truly soaring vocals take the genre-defying song to another level." BROOKLYN VEGAN
"Talented and Inventive" METAL INJECTION
"Talented and Inventive" METAL INJECTION
"A towering wall of sound, Stefanie's glacial cries cut through layers of melody and gauze and her drum skills have the crowd in awe. Their future looks very bright indeed."
METAL HAMMER (UK)
"If this is the shape of punk to come, it's far prettier and more unpredictable than we ever could have imagined." TREBLE
