Jonathan Wilson has shared a video for "There's A Light," off the new album Rare Birds, which debuted in the Heatseekers Top 10 Chart and earned widespread critical acclaim. Jonathan's longtime friend and collaborator Grant James created the video, shooting with obsolete Japanese broadcast cameras and performing analog effects by hand. The playfully transcendental video features an introduction by Bedouine and guest vocals from Lucius.
Jonathan tells us, "One of my favorite tracks on Rare Birds is undoubtedly 'There’s A Light.' It was written late in the sessions, the idea came to me that i needed an anthem of pure positivity, the point was to put these words of peace love and hope in the mouths of whoever sang along. The track you hear is the first take we played of the song, ever."
Jonathan Wilson has just concluded a successful run of U.S. dates, including a packed house at Music Hall of Williamsburg in New York City, and begins an extensive European tour tonight in Glasglow. Full list of dates is below.
Critical Acclaim for Rare Birds:
"Rare Birds is easily Wilson's most lavishly orchestrated work... At once cosmic and chillingly immediate, Rare Birds shows Wilson exploring the many possible outcomes of that old equation of inspiration - heartbreak plus time equals art... He's an utterly original and irreverent thinker who's evolving with blinding speed." - NPR
"(A) most magnificent recording, one that is mandatory listening if you are in search of an immersive album rock experience in the 21st century." - Billboard
"...strikingly original, beautifully crafted and filled with powerful and memorable songs. With a lush rock sound that recalls recent albums by The War on Drugs, Wilco and others, “Rare Birds” uses familiar sounds to take you on a totally new journey — and it’s an album in the classic sense, where the songs add up to more than the sum of their parts." - Variety
"Wilson's latest nods at Zappa, Talk Talk, Peter Gabriel and The Byrds... Rare Birds unpacks a wealth of sonic detail... This feels like a record you could lose yourself in for months." - MOJO - (4 Stars)
