“NEW RULES” ENTERS THE TOP 5 ON THE US TOP 40 CHART

The video for “IDGAF,” conceptualized by Mosaert (Paul Van Haver aka Stromae and Luc Junior Tam) and director Henry Scholfield, sees Dua’s softer side in a battle with a cold, empowered alter ego. Henry, Paul & Luc had worked together before on a pair of Stromae’s videos, so it was a natural fit when they came together again. Speaking on the process, Scholfield said, “we wanted to embody the sense of empowerment in the track, whilst going beyond the literal breakup context. So we had in mind a visual of the internal struggle, showing the two sides of Dua’s emotive state, like an argument with someone you love. The strong Dua at first berating then eventually persuading her weaker alter ego that they both don’t give a fuck.”
On making the video, Dua shared, “so excited to finally share this video with everyone. It took us 22 hours to shoot this video and with the best people and team magic happens. This video is about your stronger and weaker side fighting with each other only to realise that self-love is what will help you overcome any negativity that comes your way. I hope you like it as much as we have loved making it.”
Dua’s global smash “New Rules” has gone double platinum in the U.S., where it continues to storm up the charts. The track has now broken the top 5 of the Top 40 chart, and is currently #4. “New Rules” was also featured on everyone’s year-end lists, including The New York TimesRolling Stone,Esquire, and The FADER, with TIME naming it their #1 song of the year.
2017 was a huge year for Dua, with over 8.5 million singles and 1.3 million albums sold worldwide. She was Spotify U.K.’s most streamed female artist of the year, and the fourth most streamed U.K. artist globally following Ed Sheeran, Coldplay and Calvin Harris. Dua has another big year ahead in 2018. She will return to the U.S. in February to continue her sold-out headlining Self-Titled Tour, followed by her headlining U.K. arena tour.
