Introducing this new era is lead single, "Durak," out 4/24 an in-your-face satirically charged punk rock anthem. Daniels describes the track as, "sneering, sardonic takedown of a particular kind of middle-aged white man that’s a bit too present in today’s world." You’ve seen them; you’ve heard them. They’re confident the world has gone to shit. That Gen Z/Alpha/Whatever is the end of mankind as we know it—and, specifically, mankind," Daniels explains. "In many ways, Durak is the engine powering one core piece of this album’s theme (the greatest fool). The character in this song is sure that “back in his prime” he was an adonis, a credit to the world, able to bend luck to his will (while conveniently forgetting all of the privilege and help he had along the way). Notably, the title of the song comes from a Russian cardgame, which roughly translates to “idiot / asshole.” Sonically, an ode to the glory days of Green Day’s Dookie, a record this song’s protagonist would have absolutely loved while misunderstanding all of its message." It’s easy to see how bands like Green Day — who often tell stories through a central character to critique society — have influenced Simple Sucker. Poking fun at the idea of the “perfect fool,” Gooseberry explore what we perceive as foolish in others — bigotry, fear, arrogance, and obliviousness — delivering a collection of shout-along, irony-laced hooks that spotlight the absurdity of it all.
