THE ANALOG BODY : The Collected Poems by Alexander Laurence

This is the first major book of poems by Alexander Laurence. Many of his poems have been published in magazines and newspapers over the years. There are so many to recount. This collection brings together the best 200 poems over the last 40 years. It's been a ten-year project. There are eight books of 25 poems each. Only one book has been published before as a limited-edition chapbook. In the 1990s, Alexander Laurence spent more time writing fiction and doing journalism. Poetry took a back seat for a while. From the earliest work, which is a response to late Victorian poetry, and Modernism and Surrealism, to the middle work which highlights the New York School of poets, Language Poetry, Jack Spicer, and Michael Palmer, to the later work in which Alexander Laurence looks to his own work over the past forty years, for inspiration. It is definitely a look backwards, to the digital present, and to the future where poetry might disappear at some point.

Alexander Laurence was born in Los Angeles. He attended CSULB and San Francisco Art Institute. He has contributed to the books The Hipster Handbook (2004), Reefer Movie Madness (2010), Degenerative Prose (1995), and books about the history of Grove Press. He is also the author of a book of short stories: Five Fingers Make A Fist (2007). He has recently written a chapbook of poems The New Spain. He presently works as a tour manager and has traveled the world with indie bands. He is the founder of the website The Portable Infinite, and has a weekly internet radio show New Noise on Radio KAJW.

Desert Daze Announces Cancelation of 2024 Festival

DESERT DAZE CANCELS 2024 FESTIVAL

The organizers of Desert Daze – scheduled for October 10 - 13, 2024 in Lake Perris, CA – are heartbroken to announce that Desert Daze 2024 is canceled. All pass holders will be refunded, and will be contacted directly via their point of purchase.

As an independent festival, an increasing rarity in today’s festival market, Desert Daze is run by a small team of people who love live music and this community. Unfortunately, due to rising production costs and the current volatile festival market, it is no longer possible to execute the weekend as planned.

“Desert Daze is more than a festival or business venture to us,” notes Desert Daze co-founder Phil Pirrone. “The community that we’ve cultivated together means so much to us and is the reason we will work to find a way to keep this beautiful thing going for many years to come.”

“With each year, we do our best to serve the Desert Daze community,” adds Pirrone. “We are always learning and working diligently to improve the experience, and we tried everything to find a way forward this year. While we hit pause for now, we will be working in the background to deliver another special experience for all of us to share in the future. We thank you for your support.”

All Desert Daze Presents shows are scheduled to move forward as planned.

Love And Rockets  "So Alive (D.J. K's Vibrant Nu Disco Single Edit)"

AUGUST 30, 2024 (New York, NY) -- Coinciding with the 35th anniversary of their massive hit “So Alive and the limited-edition remix EP that contains remixes of the track by The Crystal Method and D.J. K that is released today, August 30th, LOVE AND ROCKETS have released the video for D.J. K's "Vibrant Nu Disco Single Edit."

"Five months in the making, filmmaker Ava Green has put forth this beautiful, psychedelic, artistic adventure of a music video (three thumbs up band approved)," said D.J. K of the video. "The storyline is interpretive.  It ties together the past 'So Alive' video concept with a new 'rebirth' approach to the new version."

Available on limited edition clear picture disc and digitally on August 30, 2024 and is available for pre-order here: https://loveandrockets.ffm.to/music, the EP will also be for sale at the merch table at the shows from release date onward.

Love And Rockets is the seminal, groundbreaking trio of Daniel Ash (vocals and guitar), David J (vocals and bass) and Kevin Haskins (drums). They formed in 1985 after the first split of their band Bauhaus. Love And Rockets provided a clean slate and an opportunity to plumb the depths of imagination and influences.

Named after the underground comic by the Hernandez brothers, Love And Rockets made seven records over the course of thirteen years. 2023 saw them reunite and play their first shows in 15 years and reissue all of their Beggars Banquet albums. There was a near-immediate sell-out of a limited-edition box set, and the release of My Dark Twin, a 22-track companion to the band’s 1996 album Sweet F.A. containing 8 previously unreleased versions, and six unreleased songs from the Sweet F.A. sessions. They have just announced Summer tour dates that will see them perform with a reunited Jane's Addiction. The 23-city tour kicked off on August 9 at Fontainebleau Las Vegas making stops across North America in Los Angeles, New York, Toronto and more before wrapping up in St. Louis at Evolution Festival on September 29. Tour dates are below.

Everything changed for Love And Rockets in 1989 when they released their self-titled breakthrough fourth album. The song "So Alive" was a massive worldwide #1 hit and Billboard wrote that it was the "best T. Rex tune that Marc Bolan never wrote.” The self-titled album attained gold status, and the song reached #1 in Canada and charted within the top 30 in Australia, and New Zealand. In the US, it was #1 on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart for five weeks and was ranked #1 on that listing's year-end chart for 1989 and was #3 on the US National charts.

“So Alive” has been a continual favorite, so much so that last year when the band reunited and played their first show in 15 years at Cruel World Festival in Pasadena, Rob (D.J. K) and Scott (The Crystal Method) were in the crowd and were blown away by the performance. They decided to approach the band and they then agreed to dust off and unvault the 34 year old original stems to officially remix and reimagine “So Alive”.

“CHAT”

British award-winning, platinum-selling artist Mabel is back today with her brand new single ‘Chat’, out now via Capitol Records.

Following a sensational debut performance of ‘Chat’ at Notting Hill Carnival in the UK this past weekend, Mabel has today released the infectious new single. Co-produced by Stryv‘Chat’ sees Mabel express the beauty of slowing down romantic relationships and exploring the art of conversation. With its rhythmic afroswing production and Mabel's signature enchanting vocals, ‘Chat’ continues this exciting new era for one of the UK’s brightest artists.

Listen to ‘Chat’ HERE.

The track also arrives with an accompanying visualizer shot by Toby Haygarth, which perfectly encapsulates the tender moments of Notting Hill Carnival, creating an ode to love with the vibrant and beautiful backdrop of the cultural celebration.

Watch the official visualizer for ‘Chat’ HERE.

Speaking about the single Mabel revealed: “Chat is a song for the summer. A simple love song because the best kind of love doesn’t have to be complicated. When you find a person that you can say all the things on your mind to, and that all consuming feeling takes over.”

Following a return to her R&B roots on ‘Vitamins’ earlier this year, and the release of empowering anthems ‘Look At My Body Pt.II’featuring Shygirl, which Stereogum praised for “questioning the male gaze” and celebrating “the power of the divine feminine,” with PAPER Magazine hailing it as “slinky and sleazy in a deeply appealing way,” and Female Intuition’ - the latter of which, Rolling Stone said in their exclusive conversation with Mabel “captures the star learning to trust her decision-making in life and in her art,” adding that the track is “indicative of the energy she’s tapping into” with her upcoming music. The song was also named ELLE UK’s #1 song of the summer. With these releases and more on the horizon, 2024 is bringing a fresh and exhilarating reintroduction to the BRIT award-winning artist you thought you knew.

Earlier this week, Mabel surprised fans at Notting Hill Carnival to perform fan-favourite ‘Finders Keepers’, in addition to new single ‘Chat’. The performance follows several festival slot appearances across Europe this past summer including BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend, Primavera Sound, Open’er festival and more. Mabel also joined forces with rising Ghanaian star Black Sherif for the positive anthem “Zero."

Stay tuned for more from Mabel.

San Francisco-based psychedelic rockers THE ASTEROID NO.4 to release new studio album

The Asteroid No.4
‘Several Shapes of Solar Flares’
Album released 27th September
Club AC30/Little Cloud

The critics on The Asteroid No.4:

“Psych rock legends” Bandcamp Daily

“Takes dreamy shoegazer pop and mixes in elements of '60s psychedelia and latter-day space rock” NPR

“One of the originators of the new psych scene” The Line of Best Fit

“A heady collective of musicologists” Shindig!

San Francisco-based psychedelic rockers The Asteroid No.4 are set to release their twelfth studio album ‘Several Shapes of Solar Flares’ on the 27th September via Club AC30/Little Cloud.

Originally formed in Philadelphia in the late 1990s, The Asteroid No.4 are stalwarts of the modern “psych” genre and has been a staple in the psych-rock scene since their inception and have remained an active studio and live act. Known for their atmospheric  soundscapes, evocative lyrics, prolific discography of reverb-drenched recordings and guitar driven, liquid-projected live performances, the band is often categorized as “neo-psychedelic” or “shoegaze”.

‘Several Shapes of Solar Flares’ showcases the band's evolution while maintaining their signature sound and features guest female vocals from Galine Tumasyan (Seablite) and Zoe Mahaney. Happily accepting their comparisons to acts like Ride, Slowdive, Spacemen 3 and The Rain Parade from the Paisley Underground scene in Los Angeles in the 80s, The Asteroid No.4 have evolved into a sound all their own, crafting a sonic journey that is both nostalgic and innovative.

With new long player ‘Several Shapes of Solar Flares’, tracks such as the high octane ‘Rescue’ and warm, fuzzy ‘Lost Inside’ featuring Seablite’s Galine Tumasyan on vocals, are enriched by strong hooks and glorious atmospheric instrumentation. Elsewhere, ‘Caroline’s Gone’ is maximum-volume shoegaze, while ‘Elevator’ featuring Zoe Mahaney on vocals, is a thunderous example of space rock, before album closer ‘Silhouette’, propelled forward by 60’s psychedelic tones, sonic guitar work, and  blissful vocals, represents another step in the band’s evolution.

Self-produced, recorded, and mixed by the band at their San Rafael, CA studio, the album was mastered by Simon Scott of Slowdive, ensuring a polished and immersive listening experience. The album's creation process was interwoven with the band's extensive touring schedule, including tours with psych veterans The Brian Jonestown Massacre in 2023 and The Black Crowes in 2024, and a notable performance with The Ocean Blue in San Francisco in 2023. Co-Founder of the band Eric Harms reflects that, "This album is a testament to our journey and the influences that have shaped our music. Working with Simon and having guest vocals from Galine and Zoe added layers that we're incredibly excited for our fans to hear."

In January 2024, The Asteroid No.4 released the 'Tremble' EP on Chris Robinson's Silver Arrow Records, which received critical acclaim. Looking ahead, the band is planning a return to the EU/UK in 2025, promising more electrifying performances and new music for their international fanbase.

The Asteroid No.4 are Eric Harms; guitar, Scott Vitt; guitar, vocals, Matty Rhodes; bass guitar, vocals, Camilla Saufley; keys, guitar, vocals and Mark Tarlton; drums, percussion.

Tracklisting:

‘Under Lock and Key’
‘Opaque’ (ft. Zoe Mahaney on vocals)
‘Rescue’
‘Lost Inside’
‘Caroline's Gone’
‘Lille’
‘No Heaven’
‘Elevator’ (ft. Zoe Mahaney on vocals)
‘Silhouette’

August 30, 2024—Over four decades after its debut, a deluxe edition of Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers’ groundbreaking but often overlooked 1982 album, Long After Dark, will be released via Geffen/UMe on October 18Pre-order/pre-save here.
The Petty Legacy archives will share previously unseen newly remastered film and audio from 1982 to 1983 this year, beginning with a new video for the French TV version of “Straight Into Darkness” featuring footage of the band performing at the Record Plant by award-winning director Alan Bibby—watch here and listen here.
“There was some music recorded for Long After Dark that didn’t get on the record, that I thought would’ve made it a better album,” said Tom Petty. “I left off…four things that I liked quite a bit. And probably a few more written that never even got in the door.”
Looking back on their third and final album together, legendary rock music producer Jimmy Iovine reflects, Long After Dark, we thought we had it. Sounded like Positively Fourth Street, sounded like one of those records, you know. By the way, I think it is!”
Despite it being a golden era of The Heartbreakers playing at the height of their powers, it is widely known as the band’s most misunderstood and underrated success. The album features an edgy collection of rock ballads and guitar anthems backed by the unmistakable sound of The Heartbreakers, including founding members Mike Campbell (lead guitar), Benmont Tench (keyboards), Stan Lynch (drums), plus the new addition of Howie Epstein on bass and backing vocals.
Long After Dark (Deluxe Edition) will feature the songs that were lost in the debate over the album’s original direction. Notable highlights include finding Petty’s version of “Never Be You”—which was a #1 country hit for Rosanne Cash—pop anomaly “Don’t Make Me Walk the Line,” and an up-tempo version of “Ways To Be Wicked,” which was previously covered by Lone Justice, recorded at Applewood Studios in Denver, Colorado.
Many of the additional tracks are taken from the French TV sessions, including acoustic gems, “Turning Point” and the Everly Brothers influenced “Keeping Me Alive.”
Long After Dark was a smash by the usual standards—Top 10 in Billboard, certified gold—and spawned three fan favorites, “You Got Lucky,” “Change of Heart” and “Straight Into Darkness.” Though it remains an unsung gem amongst its predecessors, Damn the Torpedoes and Hard Promises. “It’s a good little rock & roll record” but also “a tough record because I never knew if we were making the right decisions about songs,” Petty shared in Paul Zollo’s interview anthology, Conversations With Tom Petty.
Long After Dark (Deluxe Edition) features the newly remastered original album from the original analog master tapes, plus 12 rediscovered bonus tracks newly mixed by Petty’s longtime engineer Ryan Ulyate and boasts packaging designed by Grammy Award-winning designer Jeri Heiden, liner notes by legendary rock journalist and Tom Petty Radio host David Fricke, with commentary from Jimmy Iovine and Cameron Crowe and iconic archival photographs by Dennis CallahanNeal Preston and Aaron Rapoport. The set will be released in a variety of configurations, highlighted by a limited edition TomPetty.com 2LP pressing on 180-gram red with black splatter color vinyl, housed in a numbered foil tip-on jacket with an exclusive lithograph; a 3-disc set featuring 2 CDs, and a Blu-ray audio disc with additional hi-res stereo and Dolby Atmos mixes of the album and bonus tracks, also mixed by Ulyate; a variety of additional vinyl options includes a 2LP on 180-gram black vinyl; a limited edition 1LP 180-gram turquoise color vinyl pressing (main album only) with double-sided lithograph of Blaze Brooks’ illustrations (available exclusively at indie record stores).
The album will also be available at all streaming, download and HD audio download partners.
