THE ANALOG BODY : The Collected Poems by Alexander Laurence

This is the first major book of poems by Alexander Laurence. Many of his poems have been published in magazines and newspapers over the years. There are so many to recount. This collection brings together the best 200 poems over the last 40 years. It's been a ten-year project. There are eight books of 25 poems each. Only one book has been published before as a limited-edition chapbook. In the 1990s, Alexander Laurence spent more time writing fiction and doing journalism. Poetry took a back seat for a while. From the earliest work, which is a response to late Victorian poetry, and Modernism and Surrealism, to the middle work which highlights the New York School of poets, Language Poetry, Jack Spicer, and Michael Palmer, to the later work in which Alexander Laurence looks to his own work over the past forty years, for inspiration. It is definitely a look backwards, to the digital present, and to the future where poetry might disappear at some point.

Alexander Laurence was born in Los Angeles. He attended CSULB and San Francisco Art Institute. He has contributed to the books The Hipster Handbook (2004), Reefer Movie Madness (2010), Degenerative Prose (1995), and books about the history of Grove Press. He is also the author of a book of short stories: Five Fingers Make A Fist (2007). He has recently written a chapbook of poems The New Spain. He presently works as a tour manager and has traveled the world with indie bands. He is the founder of the website The Portable Infinite, and has a weekly internet radio show New Noise on Radio KAJW.
