The wait is over. End Of The Road are once again setting the musical agenda with their lineup announcement, pulling together a stunningly varied and wonderfully exciting cast of artists. Having already sold out of early bird, Tier 2 and Tier 3 tickets, it is going to be a race for fans to snap up the remaining spaces for this year’s edition. From loud guitars and walls of distortion to contemplative drones, from winsome folk and playful electronica to boundary-pushing noise - the End Of The Road lineup is stacked with the best artists to suit lovers of the alternative and arcane. Known for his magical, sometimes spiritual live sets, End Of The Road Festival have been talking to Bonnie “Prince” Billy since its inception eighteen years ago. Having exchanged letters and emails for almost two decades with co-founder Simon Taffe, this booking is a dream come true and is sure to be a special moment for an audience who will be treated to his only UK festival appearance this year. IDLES performed to a packed Big Top in 2018 shortly after the release of their breakout album Joy as an Act of Resistance. That record catapulted them onto bigger stages around the world and the release of forthcoming album TANGK sees them return to End Of The Road as triumphant Woods Stage headliners Slowdive have taken a different journey to the top of the pyramid. Emerging out of the early 90s shoegaze scene, the band called it a day after three albums, with their influence growing every passing year. Releasing their fantastic new album everything is alive last year, they have provided a blueprint for reforming with dignity and style. Exploring themes of queer joy, sex and rebellion, Swedish experimentalist and The Knife co-founder Karin Dreijer has been a leading light of radical rock and electronic pop for over a decade. Fever Ray, whose live shows are known for being visual and sonic masterpieces, is a UK festival exclusive performance for End Of The Road this year.

Always ensuring the End Of The Road audience get unique and unmissable performances, they are pleased to announce that a further two UK festival exclusives come from prolific indie-psych superstar Ty Segall, who is performing a solo acoustic set, and one of Japan’s foremost musical ambassadors and pioneer of the Shibuya-kei genre, Cornelius. As ever at End Of The Road Festival, there is so much to enjoy beyond the headliners. The unstoppable feminist-punk powerhouses that were instrumental in the Riot Grrrl scene, Sleater-Kinney, will perform following a nine-year hiatus. Indie-rock luminaries Yo La Tengo return to the stunning Larmer Tree Gardens site having first appeared in 2007. Mercury Prize-nominated for their latest album, Dublin four-piece Lankum return with their experimental doom-folk, whilst British auteur Baxter Dury will bring his delicious dry wit and debauched storytelling to End Of The Road. Niger’s cult DIY hero Mdou Moctar explosive psychedelic rock return to Larmer Tree. Leftfield pop is strongly represented at End Of The Road with surreal electro-pop duo Jockstrap, synth-driven indie-poppers Nation Of Language and Irish country-pop singer CMAT leading the charge.

Lovers of indie music have plenty to look forward to with tender indie-pop from Glaswegian group Camera Obscura, the retro stylings of The Lemon Twigs and Liverpudlian Bill Ryder-Jones returning to Larmer Tree Gardens with his ballads of love and loss. End Of The Road is famed for high octane performances from the hottest new artists, and this year some of the buzziest sets likely to come from raw and raucous Dublin newcomers Sprints, care-free scuzz punks Snõõper, LA hardcore band Militarie Gun, Liverpool-based US soul singer Jalen Ngonda, hardcore hip-hop performance-art-punk NYC outfit Lip Critic as well as Ghana’s queen of frafra-gospel Florence Adooni. Soothing tones are also provided in many shapes this year including; Japanese ambient-folk artist Ichiko Aoba, ethereal harpist Mary Lattimore as well as contemporary triple-harpist outfit Cerys Hafana and meditative psychedelia from Blue Lake.

Everywhere you look on the End Of The Road lineup there are fantastic artists both long established and leading the way. Festival co-founder Simon Taffe reflects on the initial lineup, saying: “This year’s line up is very special to me. It includes a lot of artists who released personal favourite albums of 2023: Lankum, Nation of Language, Slowdive, Casisdead, Yo la Tengo, The Lemon Twigs, Joanna Sternberg, Mark Lewis Hamilton, Fever Ray and many more.” “I’m also super excited that Bonnie “Prince Billy” is performing a very rare festival appearance - Will Oldham is one of the all time greats.
