“a soothing, lush slice of dream pop”

“an ethereal synth-pop aura”

Today, Los Angeles-based soulful pop artist Jackie Lipson releases their latest single “Chemicals.” Perfectly timed to come out during Mental Health Awareness Month, the song lyrically ebbs and flows like the waves of mood changes, and the hit and subsequent withdrawal of a dopamine rush. The song evokes the desperate nature of mental illness and how it can impact your grasp on sense of self. Jackie’s immense command over their voice is on full display in this brooding A-side to their beloved hit single “Someday” – Stream “Chemicals.”

Identifying with an array of marginalized identities – Queer, non-binary, neurodivergent, Jewish, femme, fat – Jackie has countless perspectives on how thin the line of control becomes when the body’s chemistry is in the driver's seat. The song’s chorus melody and production break open as if to finally release the pain of the mixed emotions and beg for release from this “mix of Chemicals.”

“I want the listener to understand and connect with the feeling of helplessness and the lack of control of untreated mental illness,” says Jackie Lipson. Expanding further, they said, “The pre-chorus ‘call me the pharmacist, I’m making my own medicine. Or just a narcissist, stuck inside my head again’ describes imposter syndrome, a state where it becomes difficult to trust your own experience and, in this case, begin to believe that your anxiety and depression are in fact just narcissism in disguise.”

On June 1, Jackie will join the lineup of So Happy Ur Queer at Los Angeles’ Troubadour. The show will also feature performances from BEGINNERS, TOMI and Emma Louise. Tickets and more information can be found here.

ABOUT JACKIE LIPSON

Jackie Lipson (they/them) is your new best friend and confidant. A rising pop artist out of LA, their soulful vocal tone paired with ethereal melodies and honest lyrics create a soundscape that is carving a space in the current musical landscape. Matched by their magnetic stage performance, Jackie has been filling music venues on both the East and West coasts.

“Someday” Jackie’s independently released debut single, has amassed 1.5M streams on Spotify alone and counting. Jackie’s songs have been streamed on playlists like Spotify’s Fresh Finds, New Music Friday Denmark, and Billboard playlists.

With a bouquet of marginalized identities – Queer, non-binary, neurodivergent, Jewish, femme, fat – Jackie has faced a life-long struggle to find pants that fit both their ass and calves and a community where they could be themself. Jackie spent a lot of time and energy growing up mitigating where they belonged in the world. In college they found a home in the NYC queer scene. Coming from a small suburban town in Connecticut, the city provided the excitement and unique culture they craved. This curious spirit along with a background in musical theater and self-taught songwriting directed their energy into creating music and performing acoustic sets in small venues around Manhattan and Brooklyn.

In 2016 Jackie packed up their things on the East Coast and relocated to Los Angeles, knowing this was the natural next step to become the artist of their dreams. They have performed at notable venues such as The Peppermint Club and The Echo in Los Angeles and The Mercury Lounge in NYC. They’ve played alongside artists the likes of Rebecca Black, Evangelia and grouptherapy. Their voice and style have been compared to Remi Wolf and MUNA. Jackie’s writing is influenced by the music they grew up listening to, the vulnerability and raw emotion of the 90s and early 2000s indie/pop-rock.
