BABYGIRL ARE BREATHING EFFERVESCENT LIFE INTO A NEW ERA OF POP MUSIC WITH SAD GUITARS–NEW EP CHARTS
YOUTH NOSTALGIA, LOVELORN CONVERSATIONAL LYRICS WITH UNDENIABLY CATCHY SOUND

"Bandmates Kiki Frances and Cameron Bright layer on the melancholic yearning, jangling guitars, and haze ‘90s vibes, hitting on a deft balance of earnest pop melody and indie rock malaise.”
Under The Radar

“[Babygirl] have a knack for wistful, dreamy indie pop. While their nostalgic sound recalls the warm malaise of ’90s alternative rock, the band’s lyrics strike a contemporary chord”
Consequence

“a dose of wistful dream pop”
Brooklyn Vegan

March 14, 2023– Today, rising indie pop band Babygirl announce their first ever US headline tour, Following a much-hyped opening slot for singer-songwriter Jeremy Zucker in 2021, the "wistful dream pop" (Brooklyn Vegan) band will headline LA’s The Echo, Brooklyn’s Elsewhere, and Philadelphia’s The Foundry, among others,  in support of their forthcoming EP Be Still My Heart set for release April 14 on Sandlot Records. Full US Tour dates below and here

In support of the tour announcement, today they released an intimate acoustic performance video of their single “Born With A Broken Heart,” a wistful instant classic that showcases the band’s incisive and poignant songwriting, with the dose of Babygirl charm they’re swiftly being recognized for.

Under The Radar premiered the performance, stating, “Born With a Broken Heart' is already one of the band’s most sparse and dreamy efforts, lending itself easily to the stripped-back acoustic setting…the band’s live performance shifts the tempo and draws out a loping country feel. The layers of dreamy instrumentation fall away, leaving only Bright’s fingerpicked guitar, and Frances’ immaculate vocal performance…it’s a welcoming and intimate presentation, leaning into the bittersweet yearning of a vintage country ballad.”

Last month, the band announced their fourth EP Be Still My Heart (April 14, Sanldot) a five-track collection that details love’s ebbs and flows, alongside an effervescent single “Sore Eyes,” a cleverly constructed dreamy-pop number with fuzzy guitars and gossamer vocals. The single was premiered by Consequence, who described the band saying,  “While their nostalgic sound recalls the warm malaise of ’90s alternative rock, the band’s lyrics strike a contemporary chord, blending sad, solitary images with moments of crystalline clarity and emotional weight.”

Babygirl are breathing effervescent life into a new definition of pop music. The Toronto duo–comprised of college friends Kiki Frances and Cameron Bright–place a refreshing spin on youth nostalgia with a contemporary edge. Their mission statement says it all: “pop songs with sad guitars” and already the duo are drawing attention, featured in Consequence’s Artists To Watch 2023, garnering over 30MM global streams, and drawing collaborators including Alessia Cara and LAUV.

Be Still My Heart is a heartfelt collection of songs detailing the bitter and the sweet of love, as it navigates feelings of joy and hopelessness. “We really want our music to be hopeful and sweet and full of love, but we also want to acknowledge how hard it can be to feel those feelings,” Kiki says. “We certainly both have a lot of emotional ups and downs as everyone else does. This world is really hard to live in, and there's a lot of pain and joy—equal measure at different times.”

Babygirl signed to Sandlot/ Records in 2020 after their song “Soft” captured the attention of GRAMMY nominated songwriter JKash (Selena Gomez, Charlie Puth) who instantly signed them to his label after finding the band, whilst scrolling Instagram during a bout of insomnia. Their new EP continues their rise in the indie pop scene.
