PRIMAVERA SOUND LA was a festival that took place at LA State Historic Park in Downtown LA this past weekend. Major festival acts such as Lorde, Nine Inch Nails and Arctic Monkeys were among the headliners. Since this event was announced a few years ago, people who were fans of the Spanish version of Primavera Sound were extremely excited. It seemed unreal. Primavera Sound is a festival that has become one of the best festivals in the world. This was a dream lineup too.

LA State Historic Park is known to host such festivals as FYF Fest and Beach Goth. There has also been a number of dance festivals in this location. Primavera Sound ended up being a mix of legendary bands, new exciting bands like Dry Cleaning and King Krule, and many electronic dance bands. It was the best of all possible worlds.

It was very accessible. It was easy to take the train or park your car nearby. I was able to get in very quickly on the first day. There were long lines to get in every day. Many people chose to arrive later in the day, for the main acts. I was there in the daytime to catch Shygirl and Stereolab. The attendance was 50,000 for all three days. I am sure the most people came the third day for Arctic Monkeys.

Luckily I was in the VIP section. There was a great selection of food and drinks. There were great bathrooms and a lot of room. The stages were not great distances from one another like many other festivals. I didn’t feel like it was over crowded. I felt safe and at ease. I could imagine drinking wine in a park in Spain. There was an international feel.

The first day there were big crowds for Clairo and Stereolab. The night culminated in great sets by Mitski and Lorde. Although there were some people who went to check out the band Darkside. There was a DJ stage that attracted many people as well. It was very enjoyable.

The second day included great early sets by Georgia and Beak>. Many people came to check out Kim Gordon and Fontaines DC. The headliners were Khruangbin and Nine Inch Nails who provided memorable sets. Some people camped out all day at this main stage, and many of them were wearing NIN t-shirts. Bicep provided a late night dance set that was one of the headlights of the weekend.

The third day had some good early bands such as Gustaf and Squid. Amyl and the Sniffers and King Krule attracted big crowds and mosh pits. Many people waited all weekend for a rare set by Arctic Monkeys and they definitely attracted the biggest crowd all weekend. For people who wanted to chill out, some downtempo music was provided by Cigarettes After Sex and James Blake. There was something to like for everyone. The crowd was very mixed and diverse.

This was an amazing weekend and I look forward to future lineups. Besides the warm weather and sometimes the long lines, this festival was enjoyable and epic.
