International Tour Now Includes Bonnaroo, Roskilde & More This Summer

Raise The Roof Extends 13-Week Reign at #1 on Americana Chart

Today, following a UK premiere on Channel 4's Sunday Brunch, Robert Plant and Alison Krauss release their first official music video in nearly 14 years. Set to "Searching For My Love," a highlight from the duo's chart-topping, long-awaited new album, Raise The Roof, the visual follows a series of lonely travelers on a mystical journey up a mountaintop, through the smoke and fog, down dirt paths and into the ocean, crossing paths with mermaids and more in a quest to discover a deeper treasure.

Watch "Searching For My Love" starring Julia Lucey and Rolan Meyer, directed and produced by Matt Mahurin: https://found.ee/PKSFML_MusicVideo

Originally written and recorded by Bobby Moore & The Rhythm Aces, "Searching For My Love" is a song that Robert Plant first started singing as a teenager at school. He calls it "another nugget of beautiful lost soul music which has been ricocheting between me and Alison for a long time," and the two recently performed their arrangement on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, CBS Saturday Morning and NPR's Tiny Desk (Home) Concerts.

Beginning in June, Robert Plant and Alison Krauss will bring the music of 2021's T Bone Burnett-produced Raise The Roof, and 2007's Grammy-sweeping Raising Sand, on their first international tour in well over a decade. The run of bandshell and amphitheater shows includes stops at NYC's Forest Hills Stadium and Chicago's Jay Pritzker Pavilion, as well as top spots at Bonnaroo and Roskilde Festival, and more listed below.

Tickets are available for each date HERE, and beginning today fans can enter to win tickets in every city, through a special giveaway hosted with Tunespeak. Learn more here: https://found.ee/WinRaisingTheRoofTickets

Raise The Roof is currently in its 13th consecutive week at #1 on the Americana radio charts, following its debut in the Top 10 on the Billboard 200, #1 on Billboard's Top Rock, Americana/Folk, Bluegrass and Independent Albums charts, #3 on Top Country and Album Sales, and #5 in the UK. Named one of the best albums of 2021 by Esquire, Mojo, Uncut and others, Raise The Roof amassed critical acclaim from The New York Times, New Yorker, Vanity Fair, Variety, Pitchfork, People, Associated Press, NPR and more, in addition to appearances on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, The Kelly Clarkson Show, CBS, PBS, MSNBC, the BBC and beyond.

Stranger Than Kindness: The Nick Cave Exhibition

Stranger Than Kindness: The Nick Cave Exhibition

North American premiere

April 8-August 7, 2022
Galerie de la Maison du Festival, Montreal

Stranger Than Kindness: The Nick Cave Exhibition opens Friday, April 8 at the Galerie de la Maison du Festival. Tickets will go on sale this Friday, March 4 at 10 am via evenko.ca

This is the North American premiere of the exhibition, which was previously presented at The Black Diamond, Copenhagen, Denmark. There are currently no plans for the exhibition to travel to the USA.

The exhibition was met with acclaim from press and visitors alike when it opened in Copenhagen in March 2020.

Watch the trailer of the exhibition HERE.
Photos are available HERE.

Stranger Than Kindness: The Nick Cave Exhibition is an unprecedented look into the creative world of musician, storyteller and cultural icon Nick Cave. With more than 300 objects collected or created by Nick Cave through six decades of his creative and private life brought together in large-scale installations, the exhibition is an artwork in itself. Created for The Black Diamond of The Royal Danish Library in Copenhagen, and with Cave as a co-curator and co-designer, the exhibition is an unorthodox fusion of biography, autobiography and fiction, asking what shapes our lives and makes us who we are.

Nick Cave’s body of work encompasses a wide range of media and modes of expression, with narrative forms at its heart. Stranger Than Kindness: The Nick Cave Exhibition invites visitors to follow Cave’s development as an artist – and to gain insight into the overarching themes of his work, his working methods and the many sources of inspiration underpinning it all. Behind each work is an equally fascinating artistic process not originally intended for public view; the exhibition opens up the innermost parts of Cave’s creative universe and offers a story of its own.

Stranger Than Kindness covers the journey from Cave’s childhood in 1960s Wangaratta, Australia, through the chaotic years with his first bands, The Boys Next Door and The Birthday Party, and his relocation to Berlin and then London. Central is the ever-evolving collaboration in Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, from the band’s inception in Cave’s most obsessive period in Berlin, up to their latest release Ghosteen (2019), widely acknowledged as their best work ever. The exhibition reveals how Nick Cave’s life, music, archives and fictions continue to intertwine, inform and inspire each other.

IN COLLABORATION WITH NICK CAVE
Stranger Than Kindness has been designed in collaboration with Nick Cave to create a series of immersive installations which allow visitors to inhabit the thoughts and creative process of an artist. It is a tangible, physical narrative, in which the space and exhibition design become an extension of the many stories contained within Cave’s life and writings.

“When the Royal Danish Library contacted me with the idea of a “Nick Cave Exhibition” I was reluctant to get involved. I am not nostalgic by nature and I had no time for a trip down Memory Lane. But the team at the library were clearly serious people with a wonderful infectious energy and they drew me in! We created an exhibition that feels unprecedented in its audacious reach, its feet rooted in the past while extending into the uncertain future. In the end we were able to put together an exhibition of extraordinary detail that commented on the fragile and vulnerable nature of identity. I am so proud to be a part of this unique and unorthodox exhibition—a shattered history we called Stranger Than Kindness.” – Nick Cave

Stranger Than Kindness vibrates between the voice of the curators and the voice of the artist. Cave working closely with the curators has resulted in an original take on the biographical exhibition, allowing a new experience with the material, the objects, and the life and stories of Nick Cave. A merge of biography, autobiography and fiction placed in a spatial narrative – and an invitation into an artist’s mythical universe of creation.

Together with his long-time musical collaborator, Warren Ellis, Cave has also composed and recorded an 800 square meter (approx 8,600 square feet) soundscape that both supports and contrasts the physical narrative across the eight rooms of the exhibition.

The exhibition also contains two installations created with artists Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard, who wrote and directed the 2014 Bafta-nominated Nick Cave feature film 20,000 Days on Earth.

ARTIFACTS
Nick Cave’s archives are bountiful and diverse: drafts, original artwork, handwritten lyrics, diaries, photographs, videos, found objects and much more. Rich, obsessive and unorthodox they are a vibrant, inexhaustible source of exploration of his work. This is the wellspring of Nick Cave’s lyrics and their teeming world of imaginative imagery and vivid characters. Delving deep into this archive is not just an act of retrospection, it is also a journey through Cave’s history and creative processes.

For Cave there is a close connection between the visual and his narratives. Pictures made from blood and hair, glue and found objects – such as pornographic photographs, religious prayer cards, and kitsch lenticulars – were often the springboards for the songs themselves.

“What you see in this exhibition lives in the intricate world constructed around the song or book or script or score. It is the material that gives birth to and nourishes this official work. There is an enormous amount of this peripheral stuff – drawings, maps, lists, doodles, photographs, paintings, collages, scribblings and drafts – which are the secret and unformed property of the artist. These are not to be seen as artworks so much as the wild-eyed and compulsive superstructure that bears the song or book or script or score along. They are a support system of manic tangential information.” – Nick Cave

STRANGER THAN KINDNESS – THE BOOK
The exhibition is accompanied by the book, Stranger Than Kindness, a Sunday Times bestseller published in March 2020. The book was developed and curated by Nick Cave in collaboration with Christina Back and features full color reproductions of original artwork, handwritten lyrics, photographs and collected personal artifacts along with commentary and meditations from Nick Cave, Janine Barrand and a substantial essay by the acclaimed American writer Darcey Steinke.

Here are the international press’ accolades:

#6 Most important cultural events of 2020 – Time Out (UK)

‘A wonderful cabinet of curiosities and a deeply touching visualisation of inspiration and love… Stranger Than Kindness consciously avoids many of the obvious pitfalls that the concept ‘art exhibition about a popular musician’ could fall into. Both the totality of the experience and the details have been thoroughly considered. The exhibition spaces are not dutiful containers of biographical knowledge, but instead appear as creative zones/windows of opportunity in which Cave can live out his wildest collector-manical fantasies and concretize his love for the people, who have shaped his life.’ – Information (Denmark) – Danish daily national newspaper

‘A viscerally assaultive and thrilling way of seeing into the mind of one of the last great rock stars… This hypnotic sonic monologue and the exhibition’s labyrinth-like feel adds further to the mesmerising sense that the visitor is inside the poet-performer’s twisted psyche.’ – The Face (UK)

‘A rare insight into the creative machinery of a great artist…The Royal Danish Library’s installation about songwriter and rock icon Nick Cave is extensive, but first and foremost it is deeply touching.’ – Jylland-Posten (Denmark) – Danish daily national newspaper

GENERAL INFORMATION
The exhibition was developed and designed by Christina Back, Royal Danish Library and Janine Barrand, Arts Centre Melbourne in collaboration with Nick Cave originally for The Black Diamond, Copenhagen. It was curated and produced by Royal Danish Library in collaboration with the Australian Music Vault at Arts Centre Melbourne and Nick Cave Productions.

The exhibition was initially made possible with support from main sponsor Gucci and the Beckett Foundation. The Montreal exhibition is presented and produced by Victor Shiffman (Workers of Art) in partnership with Nick Cave Productions as a co-production with Le Festival international de Jazz de Montréal and evenko.

Papercuts shares "Lodger" video & announces EU / UK tour dates w/ Still Corners

VIDEO: "Lodger" -

Today Papercuts, the solo project of multi-instrumentalist and producer Jason Quever, shares the single / video "Lodger" from its forthcoming album, Past Life Regression, due April 1 on Slumberland and on Labelman in Europe. You can pre-order the album here. The band will tour Europe & the UK in April with Still Corners - see full dates below.

"The song had a slight 60s pop inspiration, and I wanted to see if I could pull off a freakout in the middle that felt like an epiphany. Lyrically it’s inspired by a memory of feeling like a fling is just sort of passing through your life, and wondering if thats all you are to them.“ -Jason Quever

Bio:
Jason Quever has been releasing timeless guitar-based dream pop as Papercuts since 2004, impervious to trends or micro genres that have come and gone around him. In that regard, his contemporaries are artists like Hiss Golden Messenger, Fruit Bats, Andy Shauf or Kings of Convenience – artists who are more concerned with song craft and perfecting their sound, and less concerned with gimmicks or fitting into a specific scene. Past Life Regression is his new album and it's a journey into the dreamier reaches of psychedelic folk-pop that digs deep into influences as wide-ranging as The West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band, Spiritualized, Echo & The Bunnymen, Leonard Cohen and late 60s pop of various flavors.

Crafted shortly after Jason's relocation back to the San Francisco Bay Area after several years in LA, the new album revels in the tensions between the pleasures of homecoming and the collective miseries of the pandemic and our current political upheaval. The return home and the enforced isolation of lockdown lend the album a mood of contemplation and immersion in memory. The results are beguiling, from the lush sunshine pop harmonies of first single "I Want My Jacket Back" to the trippy farfisa-driven space-pop of "Lodger" to the gorgeous, Bunnymen-tinged "Palm Sunday."

As always, Jason's songcraft, arranging and production are immaculate, (Quever has been tapped to work with dream pop luminaries Dean Wareham and Beach House as of late) as evidenced by the elegant chamber-pop of "My Sympathies" and the epic flow of "The Strange Boys," “Hypnotist" and "Remarry" in the album's warbly second half. The mood of longing and recollection is a perfect match for the album's dreamy textures and for the unusual times we're living through. It's a true testament to the resilience of the Papercuts project that after several acclaimed albums, Jason still has much that's new to say, and is continually finding new ways to say it.
