PrimaDonna – an ever-unfolding series of collaborative songs – sees Pablo Padovani celebrate the lady musicians who surround and inspire him. A new chapter in MOODOÏD’s story unfolds with PrimaDonna vol. 1 – one that is co-written by its most prominent, fundamental, and ideal characters. Women have played a part in MOODOÏD / Pablo Padovani’s work from the very start – his idols include Patti Smith, Kate Bush, Björk and Cindy Sherman “artists who created enormous, dreamlike worlds, both in sight and in sound.” When MOODOÏD’s first album Le Monde Möö came out in 2014 (featuring “Je suis la montagne” and “De folie pure”, mixed by Kevin Parker of Tame Impala), he was backed by an all-female band, as well as an all-female technical staff; breaking the testosterone-fuelled conventions of music tours in which women are mostly absent, or overshadowed. Much more than a simple feature, "Only One Man" is the fruit of a long-standing friendship and a true collaboration. A few years back, Melody’s Echo Chamber was the one who gave Pablo the confidence to become a professional musician when she welcomed him into her band as her tour guitarist. They went on to record a first song together in 2015, Le Lac d’Or. Melody was also responsible for the original demo version of what would become "Only One Man" years later. Pablo had a crush on it and with Melody’s blessing, decided to turn it into this fully fleshed song. Melody’s sunny vocal inflections on "One Only Man" are like a beam of light shining towards the future, a song driven by a funky bassline talking about recovering from lost love by cherishing its most beautiful moments. “I wanted to create a dialogue between a man and a woman who are breaking up after a fiery love affair. The man looks back on the relationship with melancholy, while the woman tells him over again that she still loves him just like how she remembers. This is a happy, optimistic song.
