Cut in the spirit of hooky punks like the Ramones and the Hives, the San Francisco quintet Spiritual Cramp winks and swaggers - THE NEW YORK TIMES an absolute stomper - STEREOGUM With catchy hooks, razor-sharp grooves, and a nod to the ‘70s rude boys of London, the Bay Area band delivers an urgent, irresistible hook-filled punk-rock riot. - PASTE MAGAZINE |
San Francisco punks Spiritual Cramp have released their sophomore album RUDE. The album was produced by Grammy Award-winning John Congleton and mixed by Carlos de la Garza. Accompanying the release is a video for “You’ve Got My Number” featuring Sharon Van Etten. Directed and animated by Jack Hamilton and Dylan Wilson, the video reimagines Spiritual Cramp vocalist Mike Bingham as and animated character navigating the psychological toll of endless touring and the relentless pursuit of success. After perfecting their kaleidoscopic take on punk over a handful of EPs and one album, the band has entered a new era, expanding the songwriting duties across the entire group—a role that vocalist Michael Bingham and bassist Michael Fenton had previously helmed. The results are nothing short of ecstatic, blending new wave burn, indie rock swagger, old-school punk, and even dub and hip-hop flourishes. |

Next month the band will head to Europe to support the Hives on a two week stint that hits London, Brussels, Paris, and many before wrapping up at Stockholm's Avicii Arena. Then early next year the band will head out for a full US headline tour in support of RUDE. The 24-date run kicks off February 17th in San Diego and hits Austin, DC, Brooklyn, Toronto, Cleveland, and more before wrapping March 21st with a hometown show in San Francisco at Great American Music Hall. Tickets are on sale now. With RUDE, Spiritual Cramp finds a new balance between the cheekiness, emotional vulnerability, and raw energy that started to emerge on their debut. “When you focus on yourself and the people around you, you can keep your side of the street clean,” Bingham says. “And when I see the opposite of that, I get kind of offended, which is what a lot of these songs are about.” The album reads like a love letter to San Francisco, with Los Angeles—where Bingham relocated shortly before the debut—serving as the unkept side of the street. “My foundation is in San Francisco, California, and from there I can go anywhere and be who I am,” Bingham says. |
