(Oct 10th, 2025) - Today, celebrated Nuyorican rapper and songstress Princess Nokia (Destiny Frasqueri) releases her new album Girls out now. The album is both delicate and sinister as well as confrontational in nature. Speaking about the record Princess Nokia shares, “The album is witchy, repulsive, femme centered, high fashion, deeply poetic and extremely dark feminine. It’s both hip hop and pop. It supports women’s rights and wrongs.”
To celebrate the release Princess Nokia is performing at a string of tour dates across North America and Europe this Fall. The tour began with shows in Los Angeles and Seattle and she’ll be performing in Berkeley, her hometown of New York as well as Chicago later this month. The tour then continues on to Europe through Berlin, Paris and London in November.
Largely inspired by David Lynches Fire Walk With Me and Twin Peaks, Princess Nokia canonizes the character Laura Palmer and takes her audience on an off road journey - where the dark feminine is lawless. The album includes recently released singles “Blue Velvet,” a dark and harrowing track embracing Prishe;s ncess Nokia’s signature rap flow, and “Drop Dead Gorgeous,” a celebratory pop banger that’s pure youthful bliss.
As she found herself in this new phase of life, Princess Nokia wanted to make an album that was a guidebook to living a fulfilling life: a document of the fun she’s having paired with more existential reflections on what it’s taken to get there. While Girls is a celebration of growth, it is also ultimately an embodiment of Princess Nokia’s truest, most fundamental self. She’s always been a woman who is fearless in envisioning and pursuing the life she wants and deserves. She says it best herself: “I’ve always been a girl who has my own house, my own weed, and my own squad.” In a way, Girls is a way of honoring and celebrating that self, too: “I want to have fun with my friends for as long as I can,” she says. “And I want my girlhood to last. I want my fun to last as long as possible. And I think that's a really beautiful thing.”
