THE ANALOG BODY : The Collected Poems by Alexander Laurence

This is the first major book of poems by Alexander Laurence. Many of his poems have been published in magazines and newspapers over the years. There are so many to recount. This collection brings together the best 200 poems over the last 40 years. It's been a ten-year project. There are eight books of 25 poems each. Only one book has been published before as a limited-edition chapbook. In the 1990s, Alexander Laurence spent more time writing fiction and doing journalism. Poetry took a back seat for a while. From the earliest work, which is a response to late Victorian poetry, and Modernism and Surrealism, to the middle work which highlights the New York School of poets, Language Poetry, Jack Spicer, and Michael Palmer, to the later work in which Alexander Laurence looks to his own work over the past forty years, for inspiration. It is definitely a look backwards, to the digital present, and to the future where poetry might disappear at some point.

Alexander Laurence was born in Los Angeles. He attended CSULB and San Francisco Art Institute. He has contributed to the books The Hipster Handbook (2004), Reefer Movie Madness (2010), Degenerative Prose (1995), and books about the history of Grove Press. He is also the author of a book of short stories: Five Fingers Make A Fist (2007). He has recently written a chapbook of poems The New Spain. He presently works as a tour manager and has traveled the world with indie bands. He is the founder of the website The Portable Infinite, and has a weekly internet radio show New Noise on Radio KAJW.

DEBUT ALBUM ‘HARDCORE WORKOUT QUEEN’ OUT 8TH NOVEMBER

THE BAND PLAY THEIR FIRST UK HEADLINE SHOW AT THE 100 CLUB IN LONDON ON

NOVEMBER 4

Today, Friedberg share vigorous new single "Hardcore Workout Queen", the title track of their upcoming debut album of the same name’, stream here and pre-order the album here.

The track comes alongside an absurdly fun, stylish 80s-inspired music video, directed by the Nüesch Sisters, where fitness magazine covers spring to life and their stars break free from their glossy pages -watch here. Friedberg will also be performing their first UK headline show to celebrate their album release on 4th November at The 100 Club in London, buy tickets here

The album’s title track is a thrilling example of the band’s live spark, with it’s driving bass line, dreamy production and Anna’s clear-cut vocals, it’s a track that both evokes festival legends like Wolf Alice or Wet Leg, as well as being classically Friedberg. Written by Annaof Friedberg when she was in“a wake and bake mood”, she says“It’s about being the Champion of the slobs, whilst cheering for the Hardcore Workout Queens, who run past your bedroom window early morning, when you’re just tucking into your second breakfast. It’s kind of you do you and I do me and maybe one day we’ll switch. It’s the perfect song to listen to whether you’ve got a protein shake or a beer in your hand, whether you’ve got a popcorn machine or a rowing machine in your home, whether you’re a wake and baker or a record breaker.”

Following up on their previous work for the band for "My Best Friend", the Nüesch Sisters have outdone themselves with the new music video for Hardcore Workout Queen. This time, the band takes the spotlight on the covers of fitness and health magazines, but with a twist -they’re showing off workout routines that involve doing absolutely nothing. “The idea was that it’s muscle beach without the muscle. It’s a fitness video for lazy people”, explain Kim and Florine Nüesch.“The only problem? There’s one real Hardcore Workout Queen in the bunch, and as she starts to flex her actual workout skills, the other cover stars get a little... jealous. They start breaking free from their magazine prisons, hopping from one cover to another, causing absolute comedic mayhem.”

The band returned on the scene earlier this yearand have had a jam-packed year already, including a performance at this year’s SXSW, Great Escape Festival, a support slot with German indie rock band Giant Rookson their month-long U.S tour and recently supporting rising Black Country duo Big Specialin May. As well as supporting British alt-rock band Placebo at a handful of their UK shows in June. They finished the summer playing Lost Village Festival in Lincolnshire alongside acts like Royel Otis and Floating Points. The band will also be playing a headline show at London’s 100 Clubon 4th November.

Friedberg have garnered widespread support so far this year from the likes of The Observer, DORK, DIY, and 6 Music with Steve Lamacq, Huw Stephens, Chris Hawkins, Jess Izsatt at BBC Introducingandplaylist on Radio X.

Formed in 2019 by the Austrian-born Anna Friedberg (writer, vocals, guitar, cowbells and percussion), the line up is completed by London/Berlin-based Emily Linden (guitar, vocals), Cheryl Pinero (bass, vocals) and Fifi Dewey (drums). Friedberg’s early success came from single ‘Go Wild’ –a runaway hit that featured on the FIFA 2020 soundtrack, and in BBC's Normal People –and their stellar debut EP ‘Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah’, a razor-sharp collection of belters designed for the live stage.

The band has made major waves in Europe with performances at Eurosonic (Holland), Open Air St. Gallen (Switzerland), headlined Popfest (Austria), Haldern Pop (Germany), U.S tour with Hot Chipand support at their x3 Brixton Academy shows in London, supports with Placebo and high profile stadium support shows with AnnenMayKantereitin Germany last Summer.

Q MAGAZINE

Phoenix, Arizona shoegazers Glixen are thrilled to share their new single “sick silent,” out everywhere now via AWAL. Continuing down the path of massive noise-laden melodic rock, today’s track sees the band descend even deeper into heavy shoegaze with additional vocals from guitarist Esteban Santana. With deliriously intense guitar riffs and bracing drums, “sick silent” feels like a warm embrace on an island of noise.

“We recorded ‘sick silent’ with Sonny Diperri in Juniper Hills, CA,” says lead vocalist Aislinn Ritchie. “‘sick silent’ is like a meadow in a dark forest, evoking feelings of temporality. There are currents of distortion and reverse reverb enveloped in adrenaline-inducing percussion and hard-hitting bass lines with vocals that shine through piercing layers of guitars giving a glimpse of the world that Glixen lives in.”

This year, the band released “lust” and “foreversoon,” beginning to preview what the upcoming Sonny DiPerri (My Bloody Valentine, DIIV) produced EP will sound like. Today’s song is a step forward within their sound; atmospheric and drenched in distortion, continuing a sonic evolvement that feels fresh and completely locked in.

Arriving as a standout group in the current American shoegaze renaissance, Phoenix four-piece Glixen transcend all expectations of what the genre should currently look and sound like. The band creates a profoundly heavy sonic experience with their music, paying respects to their predecessors but resulting in something completely modern. An amalgamation of influences like Björk, My Bloody Valentine, Godflesh, t.A.T.u, and Hum, their sound crawls with intensity and introspection to contrast lead singer Aislinn Ritchie’s lulling vocals.

Ritchie, began the project in 2020 enlisting guitarist Esteban Santana, drummer Keire Johnson, and bassist Sonia Garcia. Their approach to music has landed them on expansive tours and shows with rock music titans and contemporaries alike, supporting acts like Interpol, DIIV, Narrow Head and Nothing. Glixen has released a steady stream of music since their inception, with one EP and a handful of singles under their belt. She Only Said, was released last summer with tastemaking Philly tape label Julia’s War Records, bringing them to the attention of the national DIY scene. Working with producers like Jack Endino (Nirvana) and Sonny DiPerri (My Bloody Valentine, DIIV) for recent releases, this year has seen them take their sound to the next level, previewing a continuous sonic evolution.
