"Impressive range, progressing from winding folk and distorted rock to offbeat, Sugar Ray-style pop to minimal trap and R&B. Many of Jar’s contemporaries gravitate toward plain, relatable lyrics, but the singer absorbs the fanciful logic of fairy tales..." - PITCHFORK
“Dora Jar’s angelic voice creates unforgettable moments within her music” - PIGEONS & PLANES
“larger-than-life, psychedelic pop vision with such undeniable magnetism.” - NPR

No Way To Relax When You Are On Fire plunges head-first into the existential through richly whimsical, dark pop fantasia, and illuminates Dora’s penchant as an artist that delightfully slips beyond boxes, defying the music industry’s need for easy comprehension. “It might be the contrarian in me, in light of everyone identifying themselves and others,” she says about the record. “But I have a propensity to not stick with one thing.” Dora’s capacity for songs that flit between sweeping folk to rock, to her signature bright psychedelic pop to tranquil lullabies, is rooted in her songwriting, which reads like a book of fables.
Her talent is on full display across recent singles “Timelapse”, an introspective and cinematic ode to a life chapter spent living in New York City, and “She Loves Me”, a study of the layers of her personhood that references Dora’s internal conversations with the two sides of herself: who she is in a group of people versus who she is alone. The latter marked her first new release this year following 2023’s “Puppet”—an expressive, glam rock track signaling a new era in Dora’s sound—and in February, fellow pop maverick Ashnikko tapped Dora to remix her 2023 single “You Make Me Sick!”.
Born in New York but raised in LA, the 24-year-old singer’s formative sound has already captured the attention of NPR, The New York Times, W Magazine, Billboard, Pigeons & Planes, Pitchfork and more. Dora quickly grew an audience with gentle indie rock tracks like “Multiply”, and her eclectic, playful, but mature songwriting skills led to the release of her debut EP, Digital Meadow in 2021, followed by 2022’s comfortably in pain. Over the course of 2022, she blessed fans with alluring singles “Bumblebee”, “Bump” and “Spell”, and joined Billie Eilish on her 'Happier Than Ever World Tour' in the US, Australia, and New Zealand. After selling out her first North American headline tour in 2022, Dora embarked on a national arena tour with The 1975 in 2023, playing sold-out shows at legendary venues like TD Garden in Boston and Madison Square Garden in New York City. With three fresh singles and a new album on the way, Dora Jar is gearing up for an exciting next chapter in 2024. |
