Detroit band The Doozers shares an intoxicating pop song today called "Tidal Song" bringing to mind bands like Dehd, Crumb or Wednesday.

The band gives some background on the track:

“A moment of surrender, 'Tidal Song' is focused on the release of binds that keep us separate. With interwoven dual basses, co-written lyrics, and washes of sound over the steadily plodding rhythm, it’s an invitation to sink gently to an ocean floor.” -The Doozers

After four long years of meticulous work and immense change, The Doozers offer up their debut album, Becoming an Entity, as a monument to maturation through connection. The band will self-release the album on July 26, 2024.

Their discography thus far has never failed to be entirely honest about and indicative of the stage of life through which they are moving; Becoming an Entity follows suit. Encompassing multiple moves, college graduations, beginnings and ends of teaching careers, a global pandemic, the genesis and conclusion of long-term romantic relationships, the departure of founding member, Charlie Belleville, from the group, and the subsequent addition of long-time friend Parker Grissom, the album traces all the ebbs and flows of the social and emotional landscape of the band.

Having initially been formulated in its totality as instrumental, the entirety of the work is as much a communication between The Doozers as it is an intimate letter to the listener. During their time in Connor Robertson’s home studio in Nashville, lyrics and lead melodies emerged to translate from one another across language, emotion, and sound. To honor the unique messages and reflect the variation in the writing, a different spirit and methodology was applied to the recording process for each track, giving Becoming an Entity the essence of a journal of the changing times, feelings, and minds that gave way to its creation.

With Melanie’s slippery, vocal basslines, Parker’s thoughtfully arranged chord voicings, Kyle’s technical play with rhythm, and Sean’s spirited foray into harmonics and tone sampling, each member’s individual specific musical interests of the time are carefully incorporated to make one cohesive sound that embodies their collective identity. The album showcases the group’s natural chemistry in a more refined iteration than ever before- every song meticulously composed to highlight each member like a glittering gem in the glow provided by the rest of the band. The love, the learning, the challenges, and the connections- it’s all sonically palpable, demonstrating what it means for the Doozers to become an entity.
