"Occasionally, we come across a band that feels like we’ve known them forever. Their music seems to have a deja vu effect, mirroring our past follies, fun-seeking behaviors, and bittersweet relationships. You Said Strange, a Giverny, France-based quartet is just that, a band new in statute but at home in the back pocket of all your recent ebbs and happy errors, an indie band that, well is properly, that."
Ones To Watch

"If you want a new band to fall in love with, this is it. You Said Strange’s latest LP, Thousand Shadows Vol. 2, is brilliant and versatile."
SPILL Magazine

"A fresh spoonful of indie pop glory"
V13

"Led by intense yet melodic pop-tinged instrumentation, the track strikes an intricate balance between the tenderness and danger of handing over the reins of our lives to someone else."
EARMILK

"'Control' packs big, fuzzy and clean guitar hooks, a grooving rhythm section and layered, atmospheric & hypnotic vocals."
Pilerats

"Contains the shoegaze buzz of DIIV along with the acrobatic new-wave sensibilities of Deerhunter."
Glide Magazine

"Mixing catchy guitar riffs and hypnotic vocal melodies, the new single dips the band’s sound into the world of psych-pop and post-punk revival."
Dusty Organ

"Melancholy alt-rock played in an understated direction, You Said Strange’s latest single '(Song For A) Wasted Land' takes the French band’s shoegaze template and tightens it up into the closest thing to a pop tune the band has released yet."
Operation Every Band

"When you smell cigarette smoke, you'll be there, in that studio, thinking deeply about the downfall of the world - and the brilliant new band you've just found."
No Taste

"A captivating and confident swagger-fueled slice of post-punk and dreamy rock that channels the swagger of Shame and Viagra Boys, just with a more 80s-esque atmosphere and composition."
We All Want Someone To Shout For

At the end of 2022, French psychedelic noise-pop quartet You Said Strange shared a new LP entitled Thousand Shadows Vol. 1, a release consisting of psychedelic pop, proto grunge, and shoegaze sonics, inspired by the band's experiences on tour across Europe and North America that year. Now, You Said Strange have shared the long-awaited follow-up to Vol. 1 entitled Thousand Shadows Vol. 2 (via EXAG / Le Cépe Records). Together, both Volumes compose the band's sophomore LP.

"A second chapter was needed to highlight the many shadows that still linger everywhere," said the band. "The shadows that linger on the borders, hiding the violence of the fights for them. The shadows that time has on relationships and their persistence, because the shadows move."

Amidst themes of shoegaze, noise pop, and psychedelic rock throughout the upcoming release, You Said Strange incants their music in which melancholy, love, and the search for plenitude meet. As the band continued: "Plato's cave, in a modern version, would be one of toxic relationships, antidepressants, and the acceptance of the regression of freedom and/or the vision of a dying world..."

As a follow-up to their most recent singles, "(Song For A) Wasted Land" and "Control," now, the band also place specific emphasis on the record's focus track, "No Way Out."

Speaking on the track, the band wrote:

"'No Way Out' is the opening of Thousand Shadows Vol. 2. It is an initial situation and a triggering incident at the same time. There's a wall depicted along the piece, which sooner or later, everyone confronts. Sometimes, we climb it by ourselves, and sometimes with the help of others. The question remains, how to bring it down."

In celebration of their brand new album, You Said Strange recently returned to the United States for a handful of March tour dates, including a few shows at SXSW in Austin, TX and an appearance at Treefort Festival in Boise, ID. During their trip, they also made a return to the KEXP studio for a new live session, which is available to view NOW.

You Said Strange's newest LP, Thousand Shadows Vol. 2, is out now via EXAG / Le Cèpe Records. Stay tuned for more from the band, coming soon.
