QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE “Carnavoyeur” From the highly anticipated In Times New Roman

QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE
“Carnavoyeur”
From the highly anticipated In Times New Roman… available now

We live, we die, we fail, we rise
I’m a vulture so I hear goodbyes
There’s no end to life
On & on…
Always life

Still reeling from the ecstatic reaction to the recently released “Emotion Sickness,” a triumphant return that “finds them at their sinister, bar-band-on-acid best” per New York Magazine,  Queens of the Stone Age now unveil “Carnavoyeur,” the latest offering from their epic eighth album, In Times New Roman…

In contrast to its predecessor,  “Carnavoyeur” finds QOTSA weaving more subtle shades of sinister: Mesmerizing washes of strings cascade atop the band’s trademark rock solid foundation, while Joshua Homme’s mellifluent vocals swaddle the listener with their warm and all too familiar tones of acceptance and resignation: “When there’s nothing I can do, I smile…” While the stunning, honeyed melodies of “Carnavoyeur” are undeniably, well, reallypretty, this is still Queens of the Stone Age, and there’s no shortage of viscera-rumbling drums and bass or spine-chilling guitar interplay.

“Carnavoyeur” must be heard to be believed. Listen to the song here and watch the lyric video here

In Times New Roman… will be available across all platforms on June 16th via Matador Records. On the eve of release fans are invited to ring in the album’s release at MIDNIGHT CLUB parties taking place at record shops and pubs across 23 countries.  The MIDNIGHT CLUB starts at 11pm June 15th and will feature giveaways, exclusive merch including limited edition colored vinyl, and—in a few select locations—signed merchandise and ticket giveaways. MIDNIGHT CLUB will provide the QOTSA faithful with a first chance to hear In Times New Roman… in its entirety, amongst friends, family and of course appropriate levels of bacchanalia.

Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds have today released new song "Open The Door, See What You Find" ahead of the eagerly anticipated new studio album Council Skies, which releases on Friday via Sour Mash Records. Listen here and watch visualizer here.

Speaking about the track, Noel says, "Lyrically, the premise is that, at a certain point in your life you look in a mirror and you see all you’ve ever been and all you’re ever going to be. It’s about being happy with that. Being happy with where you are in life, with who you are, and where you’re going. Life is good!"

"Open The Door, See What You Find" also features longtime friend and collaborator Johnny Marr on guitar. This is the fifth new song to be revealed from Council Skies following "Pretty Boy" (also featuring Johnny Marr), "Easy Now," the epic "Dead To The World" and current single "Council Skies." All have received widespread acclaim from media and fans alike, with SPIN declaring “Noel’s lyrics are as inscrutable as ever," and American Songwriter who hailed, "The new record showcases the artist’s knack for composition, tone, and magnetism.”

A decade since the formation of the High Flying Birds, and having achieved four consecutive UK Number One albums, Council Skies, produced by Noel and Paul ‘Strangeboy’ Stacey, is the band’s fourth studio album and widely regarded as Noel’s most complete solo statement to date.

The release of Council Skies will kick start a huge live season for the band beginning with a 26 date USA tour, co-headlining with US alternative rockers Garbage which starts on Friday coinciding with album release. The band then return to the UK in July to play an array of UK outdoor shows and headline festival performances, including a massive homecoming gig at Manchester’s Wythenshawe Park on August Bank Holiday weekend. This is followed by a full UK arena tour throughout December 2023. Tickets are on sale here.

Council Skies is available to pre-order now on CD, heavyweight vinyl with bonus 7”, LP picture disc plus various digital formats including a Dolby Atmos spatial audio version. The previously released Robert Smith remix of ‘Pretty Boy’ is featured on deluxe limited-edition triple vinyl and 2CD formats which also include a stunning live session version of ‘Live Forever’ and a remix from Pet Shop Boys. A printed handwritten lyric sheet of title track Council Skies will be included with all album pre-orders via the official store.

SUPPORTING ARCTIC MONKEYS ON THEIR 2023 UK STADIUM TOUR – SEE ALL DATES HERE

“The Mysterines are ready to take over.”

“Metcalfe’s confident attitude is felt at every turn as she opens up on themes of self-destruction and love.”

"Few can match the levels of accessibility, seduction and intensity that The Mysterines have."

Alt-rock wunderkinds The Mysterines have returned with their new single “Begin Again,” an enthralling precursor to their monumental support slots with Arctic Monkeys on their stadium tour this summer in the UK. Stream the new single here and watch the video here.

Receiving its first play from Clara Amfo on BBC Radio 1 yesterday, “Begin Again” is the first single to be taken from The Mysterines’ forthcoming LP and sees the four piece build on their signature introspective lyricism, stripping instrumentation back for an incredibly powerful set up and delivery. It’s the sound of a band truly refining and maturing their craft.

Speaking further about the single, frontwoman Lia Metcalfe says, “Written during a full moon in a barn in the West Country, ‘Begin Again’ felt like finding a key to the spirit realm the evening it arrived. It felt like I was embarking on a surreal journey of self-dissolution; think of the first verse as a set of instructions and see how far reality stretches.”

Riding high on the success of their critically acclaimed, UK Top 10 debut album Reeling released March 2022, The Mysterines have been achieving remarkable success since the release, including two tours of the UK, two of North America and one in the EU, and now a tour with their personal heroes Arctic Monkeys across UK stadiums this summer. Tickets here.

Reeling saw stellar support across the board on release, from a TV appearance on Jools Holland (which Lia herself predicted as a teenager) to glowing reviews from leading indie tastemakers and international publications. The Line of Best Fit’s 8/10 review said The Mysterines “draw you in with their seething words...mountainous rock tones...and humored musing son life’s painful inevitabilities over thirteen glorious tracks”, with DIY commenting “their knack for melody is one of their greatest strengths, particularly when combined with frontwoman Lia Metcalfe's husky tones.” NME declared Reeling an “electrifying debut album” in their 4-star review, comparing the powerful guitar ballad “On The Run” to “a ‘Celebrity Skin’ era Hole classic,” , meanwhile The Telegraph commented “The Mysterines' default setting is fast and furious garage punk-rock to which Metcalfe adds a goth grandeur with doomy lyrics and a quality of brazen glee at the rebellious posturing of songs with statement titles.”

ABOUT THE MYSTERINES

When it comes to pivotal life moments, having the mighty Nick Cave snatch a balloon out of your hands when you’re seven years old before smirkingly stomping on it is going to make you do one of two things. 1) Run off crying and forever commit to a quiet life or 2) Decide to be just like the big, tall man who gets a kick out of scaring little kids. When it happened to Lia Metcalfe, she wisely decided to do the latter.

Still only in her 20s, the Mysterines’ imposing frontwoman melds together more than her lifetime’s worth of experiences with the kind of deep, impassioned vocal you won’t forget in a hurry. In her songs and stagecraft, you’ll see and hear everything from PJ Harvey’s raw and ragged stomp to the crazed carnival energy of Tom Waits and eviscerating poetics of Patti Smith. The first great British rock band of the post-pandemic era, the Mysterines let us in on Lia’s unfiltered look at life, the universe and everything, complete with serious riffs and an unflinching honesty.

The rest of the Mysterines naturally coalesced around Lia. She met bass player, George Favager, standing outside a branch of Home Bargains when she was 14. Lead guitarist Callum Thompson and drummer Paul Crilly she met a few years later at a Psychedelic Porn Crumpets gig in Liverpool. She’d forgotten her ID and the bar refused to serve her, despite the fact that she’d just turned 18. Callum helped her out by offering Lia a warm can of beer from out of his backpack. The rest, of course, is history.

The Mysterines debut Reeling – released in March 2022 – was made under the watchful eye of acclaimed producer Catherine Marks (Wolf Alice, The Big Moon, PJ Harvey). Going back and forth from her West London studio, Assault and Battery, over three weeks in between lockdowns, it was recorded live to capture the intensity of the songs. Grief, self-destruction, and heartache run heavy through the record, but all are brought together by the blackest of humor.

The Mysterines have been achieving remarkable success since the release of Reeling, including a TV appearance on Jools Holland (which Lia herself predicted as a teenager), two tours of the UK with a headline show at Kentish Town Forum, two of North America and one in the EU. Summer 2023 will see them tour with their personal heroes Arctic Monkeys across UK stadiums.

Singles: “The Clutch” “My Evil

Palehound’s new album Eye On The Bat, due out July 14 on Polyvinyl Record Co., is a documentation of illusions shattering in the face of profound change. Witnessing the tiny details that build or break a relationship, and the flood that comes after. Lead single “The Clutch” earned acclaim spanning Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, NYLON, THEM, Guitar World, Billboard, Stereogum and more. Today El Kempner (they/them) unleashes new album cut My Evil alongside a spectacular lyric video that pays homage to cult favorite, The Sopranos.

Kempner slices deep with bold honesty on the relatable new song explaining, “My Evil” is about the extremely humbling experience of realizing that yes, you Are the asshole. I found myself acting in ways I was ashamed of, and realizing how capable I was of hurting somebody when I was trying so hard not to. Sometimes when you try so hard to be a “good person” you’re actually swinging so far and recklessly that you make a full circle back to being a shithead. It can be very hard to forgive yourself, and this song is a portrait of that struggle for me.”

Watch / Share “My Evil” Lyric Video

“The Sopranos is a show that's been constantly on loop in my life for the past few years,” shares Kempner about the video’s inspiration. “When I got the idea to make a video based on the intro credits of Tony driving through Jersey, I knew I had to do it with my friend Richard Orofino. He's possibly even a bigger Sopranos fan than I am and he did an incredible job mapping out a lot of the original locations from the show, including Tony's house that we see at the end of the video. This whole thing was super DIY, just me and Richard (and his camcorder) having the time of our lives and being embarrassing superfans. It's not exactly shot for shot of the original but, to brag for a sec, I'm truly amazed at how close we were able to get it.”

Eye On The Bat is Kempner’s latest release since Black Friday (2019) and Doomin’ Sun (2021) by Bachelor (a collaborative project with Jay Som’s Melina Duterte). Recorded in brief stints across 2022 at Flying Cloud Recordings in the Catskills, they stepped up to the soundboard for the first time, co-producing the new album alongside Sam Evian (Big Thief, Cass McCombs). Kempner also credits multi-instrumentalist Larz Brogan, who they refer to as “my platonic life partner” and longtime member of Palehound since the Boston DIY days, as a vital part of making the album come together the way it did.

Eye On The Bat is the biggest – and best – Palehound has sounded on record. It is not a hopeful record in content, but it presents listeners with a reminder that – if you made it through that, you’ll handle whatever comes next.
