"The seismic churn of heavy-hitting guitars; the unrelenting rush of vigorous drums; the delicate, soul-stirring vocals that shine like a beacon of light – hopeful and heartfelt, like a sturdy anchor in life’s stormy seas. Slow Fiction channel inner turmoil into stunning sound on their self-titled EP, a radiant, achingly raw, and beautifully cathartic indie rock record."
Atwood Magazine

"An anthemic, rollicking jaunt, 'Jericho' sees big guitar riffs alongside a commanding rhythm section and lead vocalist Julia Vassallo’s powerful, distinctive vocals."
Pilerats

"Let their garage-rock guitars and the song’s enthralling crescendo give you a sense of catharsis (and even make you dance)."
Alternative Press

"Bright-eyed early noughties guitars are behind the wheel on this one, trailing an atmospheric hum of feedback and dancing rhythms [...] either grab the nearest box of tissues or strap on your dancing shoes; ['In the distance, where nothing matters'] is a ferocious groover with an unrepentant sense of enmity."
So Young Magazine

"The ditty mixes the ethereality of shoegaze with a driving indie rhythm to create an atmospheric aura filled with sweet, sweet nostalgia reminiscent of their State mates the Yeah Yeah Yeahs."
Far Out Magazine

"'Top 10 Movie Scenes' finds the band slowing down for a more expansive effort, crafting a widescreen offering traced with fuzzy indie rock textures [...] The track’s soaring climax feels perfect for a coming-of-age movie, capturing an emotive high in brilliant instrumental color.
Under the Radar

"What sets 'Top 10 Movie Scenes' apart from just being a throwback song is the vocals of Julia Vassallo. Her vocals are far more pop and smooth sounding than anything from twenty years ago [...] This is a truly unique sound that you're going to want to jump on today before they become huge."
If It's Too Loud

"Seeming to have been plucked straight from a Kat Stratford fever dream, the band has a sort of late 90s/early oughts rock tinge with a bit more edge, paired with vocals reminiscent of Dolores O’Riordan. With tracks that are biting, sincere, and still maintain an air of mystery, it’s an exciting introduction for the band."
Alt Citizen

"While punk motivates you to mosh, shoegaze inspires staring at your laces and dream-rock kinda makes you cry (just me?!), this is music that forces you to dance in full on torso-twisting, hip-shaking, limb-flinging form [...] If this is your introduction to Slow Fiction, welcome. It’s Baader-Meinhof meets the Brooklyn music scene."
Bands Do BK

"Slow Fiction try their hands at a quick, fast, expressive single and hit it out of the park. [...] You could feed an AI information on how to program the ideal rock single by using this as a template."
Alt77

"Short and sweet, the 2-minute introduction brings out the warm, dance-rock guitars of The Strokes with bedroom-style vocal production for a charming and nostalgic tune."
Dusty Organ

"The track features that gritty Meet Me In The Bathroom-era grimey New York rock sound with a bit of The Strokes, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and even some Be Your Own Pet. It’s raw and fun and pure rock and roll."
We All Want Someone to Shout For

Brooklyn's Slow Fiction have gradually gained acclaim and local notoriety after releasing a slew of stellar singles in 2022 (including as double A-side, "The Cut" / "Niagara," and  standalone tracks, "Nameless Harm" and "International Cherry"). In turn, the band has been found on bills all over the city, performing alongside acts such as Sports TeamGirl Skin (with whom they toured last spring), Native SunThe Wants (mem. Bodega), Thus LoveDead Tooth, and more, in addition to making an appearance at last year's New Colossus Festival (view the Paste live session).

Now, Slow Fiction is finally sharing a full-length project, their debut self-titled EPSlow Fiction, out now via all DSPs. Jonathan Schenke (Parquet Courts, The Drums, Snail Mail, Mannequin Pussy) mixed and mastered the project, helping the band carve out a sound that calls upon the garage rock greatness of the early aughts.

As vocalist Julia Vasallo wrote of their new release:

"These songs are a culmination of the past two years of our group’s coalescence. We’ve felt a need to explain ourselves in a larger context, and this is our first chance to do it. There are characters throughout the EP that every person has either related to, loved, or hated at some point in their lives. I’ve always loved the quote that 'good art should make you laugh and cry' but what about the feeling when you’re crying and laughing at the same time?"

Leading up to the full drop, Slow Fiction shared two singles, "Top 10 Movie Scenes" and "In the distance, where it doesn't matter." Now, as the full EP is released, the band shines a spotlight on the EP's focus track, "Jericho."

"This track is fueled by tension and a persona that is utterly heinous and toxic," Vasallo wrote. "The character we hear throughout the song could be your own conscience, your worst enemy, or both. The battle of Jericho is the struggle of determining how to tell the truth without the walls crumbling down."

Slow Fiction is additionally returning for this year's New Colossus Festival, and will be playing a showcase alongside The Vices, Ghum, Blushing, English Teacher, O Wake, and Naya Ali at Mercury Lounge on March 10. Tickets are available HERE.

Stay tuned for more from Slow Fiction, coming later this year, and listen to their debut EP, out now via all DSPs.
