New York, NY – August 5, 2022 – Nashville-based model turned singer-songwriter Elke is back with another entrancing single “My Sweetheart” via Congrats Records (STREAM HERE). The love song was produced by and features frequent collaborator Zac Farro (Paramore, HALFNOISE) who also directed the dreamy music video that accompanies the song’s release. Both the song and video are out today and are just a taste of what is to come from the rising indie artist as she steps into a new era.
After releasing her debut LP No Pain For Us Here last fall, Elke has focused her artistic process around the baby grand piano she purchased after moving back to Nashville at the start of the pandemic. The focal point of the piano within her songwriting process is unusual for the musician but has helped her to reshape her sound to create something new. When speaking about “My Sweetheart,” the singer focused on her intentions for the single and video which were executed perfectly.
My new single is mystical in a tickled by a feather kind of way. I deliberately wrote these lyrics to feel lovely and whimsical, like the essence of spinning in a meadow after a first kiss. When coming up with the concept for the video, the only thing I told my friend / creative director Payton was that I wanted to be a fairy. Writing a song to this degree of pure love without a hint of sadness feels like a fairytale to me. – Elke
Elke is the artistic moniker of Kayla Graninger who decided on the name after the name of her mother and grandmother who had passed before having the chance to ever meet her. She has been writing music since she was in high school. She released her debut EP Bad Metaphors (produced by Shawn Everett: The War on Drugs, Local Natives, The Killers) in 2018 and followed that with 2021’s Visitors EP. Her debut LP No Pain For Us Here was her first release for Congrats Records. It was also produced by Farro and was featured on KCRW’s Best of 2021 list. Following the album release, Elke joined Natalie Bergman as the main support for Natalie’s first national headline tour this past spring.
