PHOTO CREDIT: KAS The fearless composer and experimental pioneer, Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith, continues to lay the groundwork for an exciting second half of 2022, announcing her headlining US tour to run directly along with the release of her new album Let's Turn It Into Sound, out August 26 on Ghostly International. The 9 date tour will hit major stops in New York, Chicago, and LA, along with appearances in San Luis Obispo for Festival Mozaic on July 28 as well as Austin’s at LookOUT Fest on September 3. Tickets and pre-sale are available below with dates going on sale July 8, 2022. Created over three frenzied months recording alone in her home studio, Let’s Turn It Into Sound will be KAS’ most ambitious, intuitive, and inviting work to date. Attempting to process the fraught moment currently present in the world, the new album is a musical response to the complex emotions and feelings arising for many. Along with the recent announce which earned early nods from Pitchfork, Stereogum, Brooklyn Vegan to name a few, KAS has shared her new video for “Is it Me or is it You?,” a vibrant and visceral visual experience made by KAS and director Sean Hellfritsch using a motion capture suit- watch it here. KAS’ work as a producer and composer has pushed the boundaries of experimental music and amassed critical acclaim from the likes of Pitchfork, NPR Music, The New York Times and more. Earlier this year saw the release of her collaborative album with Emile Mosseri, I Could Be Your Dog / I Could Be Your Moon, which garnered attention from the New York Times, NPR and recently was named as one of Vinyl Factory’s ‘Favorite Albums of 2022 So Far. These recent accomplishments help contribute to her already impressive resume which includes shows with bands like Animal Collective Four Tet, Caribou, and Tortoise along with composing original works for Apple, BBC Orchestra, Adult Swim, MoMA, Red Bull and others. KAS’ soundscapes go beyond her own solo efforts. Most recently, KAS contributed a remix for the upcoming Danny Elfman album, Bigger Messier as well as working with Tyler Bates on the score for the new Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind attraction at the Epcot Theme Park in Walt Disney World Florida. Let's Turn It Into Sound sees KAS forging a path far beyond the ambient music moniker she is often associated with, traversing avant-garde pop, neoclassical, and the otherwise unclassifiable, all the while cementing Kaitlyn as a composer and artist in a lane all her own. This upcoming tour is another opportunity for KAS to showcase her ability to recreate the vibrant colors & visions in her mind, the results of which are sure to be both transportive and spectacular. |
