Sudan Archives has announced the first leg of the Homecoming Tour, a run of North American shows that commence in late September and mark her most extensive headline tour to date. The announcement lands on the heels of a pair of critically lauded new singles “Home Maker” and “Selfish Soul,” which delineate the huge musical evolution she has undergone over the last couple of years, yielding rapturous praise from the Guardian, New York Times, Pitchfork, NYLON, Stereogum, Clash, The Line of Best Fit, The Fader, FLOOD, and many more. The dates mark her first headline tour since the acclaimed tour for her accomplished 2019 album Athena, which concluded in March 2020 on the first day of the US Covid-19 lockdown. She comes to the dates with a new perspective and assurance after holding her own on Tame Impala’s 2021 Fall arena tour, performing solo before audiences of thousands. Ticket pre-sales for the Homecoming Tour launch Wednesday June 1 at 10am local time, while general on-sale goes live Friday June 3 at 10am local time.

Sudan Archives has brought her electrifying live performances to festivals such as Coachella, Field Day, and Pitchfork Midwinter, and she's shared the stage with artists including Ibeyi, Michael Kiwanuka, St Vincent, and Tune-Yards. She’s performed at Disney Hall in LA for Yoko Ono's birthday tribute, played ambient shows as Sudan Moon, and was in an art/music installation at LACMA curated for Robert Rauschenberg's ¼ Mile Exhibition. This June, Sudan will appear on Neneh Cherry’s The Versions, a new album featuring reworked versions of the iconic artist’s songs by musicians including Sia, Robyn, Charli XCX, ANOHNI, Jamila Woods, and more. She also recently covered "Dogtown" for Ocean Child: Songs of Yoko Ono alongside contributors including David Byrne, Japanese Breakfast and Sharon van Etten.

SERVICE (Russell Simins) New Video / Tour Starts June 1st / Debut Album Out Now

SERVICE (RUSSELL SIMINS OF JSBX) SHARE VIDEO FOR WHO ARE YOU ANYWAY?

TOUR STARTS JUNE 1ST

DEBUT ALBUM DRAG ME OUT NOW VIA LET'S PRETEND RECORDS

Today, on the eve of their June tour, SERVICE share the brand new video for WHO ARE YOU ANYWAY? taken from their debut album, DRAG ME,  released earlier this month via Let’s Pretend Records.

SERVICE describe themselves as "post punk then punk again," but this raucous new band isn't afraid to blow through multiple genres in a song. In the video for their second single "WHO ARE YOU ANYWAY?", they somehow keep it heavy and hooky - no small feat! The band finds freedom in performing a straight, old school punk rock verse-chorus with power, pleasure, and total abandon. Discordant synth samples keep it just off kilter enough against the powerhouse drumming of band captain Russell Simins (best known for his tenure in the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion). And if this punk structure seems familiar for a minute, SERVICE quickly leaves that comfort zone with the absolute heaviest, doom break that's more Sleep than Birthday Party. Wild child front person Jilly Weiss (We Are Hex) sings "we're both subtle as a building coming down” as Mitch Geisinger winds his way into the mix with some riotous guitar. The band rips back into the catchy chorus before ending with a shredding outro: Jilly screaming “not subtle, not subtle.” Indeed. The video, shot in the band's industrial garage practice space in downtown Indianapolis, was directed by Simins and videographer Marshall Baumgartner. Get on board now so you can tell everyone you knew ‘em first!

The album is very much a guitar record, a two-guitar assault, but the hard-grooving beats keep it almost danceably post-punk. DRAG ME is certainly unorthodox, but has choruses that will have you yelling along - an audacious, swaggering rock and roll record that is putting SERVICE on the map.

The band previously shared a video for HEY, directed by filmmaker, Steve Hanft

Their angsty brand of riffy alt-rock, equal parts blood and fire, is distinctly mid-'90s and would fit right in on the Yellowjackets soundtrack.” BrooklynVegan

A beautiful cacophony of noise, melody, and punk ethos.” Psychedelic Baby

A monstrously great set of darkly intense post-punk, propelled by Russell’s groovy beats, laced with his multi-layered production, and topped with Jilly’s otherworldy vocals.” Tinnitist (watch interview)

Thank San Diego for giving us Iron Butterfly, Blink-182 & Stone Temple Pilots but it’s got another distinction now. In 2019, a group of wise-beyond-their-years SD teens, singer/guitarist Tuesday Denekas (they/them), drummer Milla Merlini (she/her) and bassist Sasha A'Hearn (she/her), rose like punk-pop phoenix's from the ashes of their previous band to corral guitarist/singer Charlee Berlin (who owned but didn't know how to play her instrument at first) to resurrect Denekas' songs of heartbreak and determination, starting out as the Fluorescents with 2020's noteworthy 'self-titled' EP. Proudly christening themselves The Inflorescence, the band found the right home with Kill Rock Stars to unleash their debut LP Remember What I Look Like (due Summer of 2022). The group faces challenges like juggling high school and college classes, finding all-age venues in town to play and rejecting gender labels as they explain: “in a largely male-dominated industry, we see how undermined we are for being a no-man band, and we see how being on stage empowers alternative girls and non-binary people.”

THE ALBUM
The stunning debut LP Remember What I Look Like, out June 10 on Kill Rock Stars, was conceived during quarantine and draws on the band's inspirations, including indie, punk, emo, grunge and alternative.  Tuesday Denekas's songs of shattered, disappointed romance sound triumphant in these infectious songs that are propelled by Milla Merlini's thunderous drums, Sasha A'Hearn's steady, anchoring bass and Charlee Berlin's stinging guitar leads. The confident nine-song album has zero dull spots or wasted songs. Starting with the sinuous, fast-paced “Phantom Feelings” and the resilient, stomping “So Much of Nothing” to the start/stop drama of “Are You Sorry” and the deceptively sweet, bouncy “Last Week” and the hair-pin turns and resilient defiance of “The Truth” to the brief respite from the title track which launches into the epic, gripping “Tomorrow Night” and the desperate grunge power of “The Button,” finishing off with the roaring climax of “Board Game,” it’s a rollercoaster ride of thrills and anguish to strap in for.

About "Board Game"
"Board Game" is probably the most desperate song on the album. At this time in my life I felt very manipulated, like I wasn’t being myself anymore and that the people I surrounded myself with didn’t really care about me at all. I felt like I was just a piece of someone else's puzzle, not my own. Instrumentally and structurally I took a lot of inspiration from the song “Your Best American Girl” by Mitski because of how powerful the instruments sounded. The final line, “I don’t know why but I can’t recognize you anymore.” feels like the perfect way to end this album and ties with the album name, Remember What I Look Like.

Beth Orton Announces First Album In Six Years And Debut For Partisan Records, Weather Alive Out September 23rd

Beth Orton Announces First Album In Six Years And Debut For Partisan Records, Weather Alive Out September 23rd

TITLE TRACK “WEATHER ALIVE” AVAILABLE HERE

JOINS ALANIS MORISSETTE ON EU/UK ARENA TOUR THIS SUMMER, ANNOUNCES UK HEADLINING FALL DATES

English singer/songwriter Beth Orton today announces the September 23 release of her first album in six years and debut for Partisan Records, Weather Alive. For the first time in her career, Orton self-produced the entirety of Weather Alive from her home studio in London. Across eight tracks, Weather Alive hosts an incredible group of collaborators, including jazz poet Alabaster dePlume, The Smile drummer Tom Skinner, multi-instrumentalist Shahzad Ismaily and Mercury Prize nominated bassist Tom Herbert of The Invisible. The musicians locked naturally into Orton’s sensibilities, expanding the new sonic world she created with vulnerability and adding nuanced emotional color to the music.

Following its soulful, hushed opening with Orton intoning over floating piano, lead single “Weather Alive” blooms with steadied percussion. As Orton’s crystalline vocals drift into spoken word, the song swells into an elegant and glassy groove.

Listen to title track/album opener “Weather Alive” and watch the new video directed by Eliot Lee Hazel HERE

Through the writing of these songs and the making of this music, I found my way back to the world around me,” says Orton, “a way to reach nature and the people I love and care about.”

She continues: “This record is a sensory exploration that allowed for a connection to a consciousness that I was searching for. Through the resonance of sound and a beaten up old piano I bought in Camden Market while living in a city I had no intention of staying in, I found acceptance and a way of healing.”

Weather Alive has no precedent in Beth's previous work. The record conjures a deeply meditative atmosphere which is sustained long after the final note has evaporated. Her voice is held in dreamlike musical suspension as she delivers rich bursts of imagery: steps down to the water's edge, a Welsh choir on the wind, New York's summer streets.

Even when the lyrics lean into stream of consciousness, Orton’s signature storytelling is on frequent display, from the warm, Proust-referencing “Friday Night” (“Though we never do get too close, I still hold you now and then,” Orton sings) and the bittersweet recollections of “Arms Around a Memory” (“Didn’t we make a beautiful life in your eighth-floor walkup that night?”) to the shimmering ambivalence of the seven-minute closer “Unwritten” (“I was sure we made a promise, but you never know”).

Orton has long been regarded as possessing one of the most unique and expressive voices in music – a voice that has grown evermore rich and wise over time. Celebrated for her solo output and collaborations - with everyone from The Chemical Brothers to Bert Jansch, Andrew Weatherall and Jim O'Rourke - Orton has called the new album "a collaboration with time," adding “This old piano really spoke to me and held an emotional resonance I could explore in a way I wasn’t able to on guitar — a depth, or a voice, I’d never worked to before,” she enthuses. “For me, the mood and atmosphere were another instrument. They were always consistent.”

This Summer, Orton will join Alanis Morissette for her European and UK arena tour and play a handful of UK and EU festivals before a headline UK tour through October including a KOKO Camden show on October 9th. See the full list of tour dates below and more info here: https://bethortonofficial.com/tour

Stay tuned for more to come on Orton and Weather Alive soon.

About The Melvins

The Melvins are one of modern music’s most influential bands. Having formed in 1983 Montesano, Washington, the group founded by singer/guitar player Buzz Osborne (with stalwart drummer Dale Crover joining the following year), has been credited with merging the worlds of punk rock and heavy music, forming a new subgenre all its own. Over the band’s nearly 40-year history, they’ve released over 30 original albums, numerous live full-lengths and far too many to count singles and rarities. Most recently they released the 36-track acoustic collection Five Legged Dog, featuring reinterpretations of some of their heaviest songs as well as covers from their favorite artists. In the course of their discography, they've partnered with Jello Biafra, Mudhoney, and FantĂ´mas for individual releases and toured the world many times over. In fact, the band had the misfortune to be in both Christchurch and Tokyo for their 2011 earthquakes. In 2012, the Melvins completed the “51 States in 51 Days” (50 states +DC) tour, which was chronicled in the film “Across The USA in 51 Days.” The current incarnation of the band is Osborne, Crover, and Steven McDonald (Redd Kross/OFF!). Previous line-ups include a pairing of Osborne and Crover with Big Business band members Jared Warren and Coady Willis, a four-piece featuring the current trio plus Butthole Surfers’ Jeff Pinkus, as well as Melvins Lite, which partners Osborne and Crover with Mr. Bungle’s Trevor Dunn. Sometimes, if you’re extra lucky, one version of the Melvins will open for the Melvins.

WHAT SO NOT "MR. REGULAR” FT. OLIVER TREE & KILLER MIKE + NEW ALBUM ANOMALY ANNOUNCED FOR 9.16 VIA COUNTER RECORDS / SWEAT IT OUT

WHAT SO NOT SHARES NEW SINGLE
MR. REGULAR” FEAT. OLIVER TREE & KILLER MIKE

+ ANNOUNCES SOPHOMORE ALBUM ANOMALY OUT SEPTEMBER 16 – PRE-ORDER NOW

ALBUM INCLUDES COLLABORATIONS
WITH LOUIS THE CHILD, MĂ˜, HERIZEN and more

Artist photo - pls credit Jonti Shepherd

There is nothing regular about Australian producer What So Not, with the revered electronic artist returning today with sweltering gusto via the new single Mr. Regular, boasting iconic features courtesy of Razor scooter world champion Oliver Tree and rap legend Killer Mike (Run The Jewels). One of the undeniable ‘must hear’ musical moments in an extremely stacked 2022, today’s release of “Mr. Regular” is accompanied by the long-awaited confirmation of What So Not (= Chris Emerson aka Emoh Instead) sophomore album Anomaly, set for release on September 16 on Counter / Sweat It Out, available to pre-order now.

Mr. Regular brings together a trio of extremely sophisticated artists, showcasing What So Not’s knack for crafting iconic riffs and sound design. Influenced by Dead Prez and Gorillaz for the effortlessly smooth outing, “Mr. Regular” welds pristine production with heaving beats, lush melodics and unforgettable vocal outings across the board. With the hotly-anticipated track already previously whipping up a frenzy amid a leaked version finding its way online, it’s certainly been a labor of love to finally get to the point of release; but What So Not is more than ready to share this scorching track with the world at long last, as he explains, “It’s one of the biggest songs I’ve ever been part of, tied up in red tape for too long. I know how much the fans and community want this one”. What So Not’s own history working with Oliver Tree in his career’s infancy, previous work with Killer Mike and a shared understanding of personal and career hurdles ultimately shaped what “Mr. Regular” would become, as What So Not elaborates, “I showed Mike the demo after working on a bootleg/remix for his project Run The Jewels. “Mr. Regular” is about the difficulty that we face through our childhood and career progression as clueless superior figures try to control and shape our path”.

A squealing West Coast earworm with that classic What So Not sound, “Mr. Regular” first grew its sonic legs with What So Not creating a demo with his LA housemate James Earl, before Oliver Tree dropped in to record and flesh out the track, and rounding out proceedings with What So Not recording with Killer Mike at the iconic Stankonia Studios in Atlanta. And while What So Not is no stranger to a regular collab in the studio alongside also busting out sizzling remixes, winning awards and snagging ongoing positive acclaim for his debut album, 2018’s Not All the Beautiful Things, it’s in 2022 that What So Not sits poised at his most polished and innovative yet; a fact laying in tantalizing wait on his impending new full-length Anomaly

Inspired by travelling the world and exploring sounds globally just prior to the COVID-19 pandemic while consuming everything from the likes of Lil Peep to Jammer and Dutch electronic trio Noisia, Anomaly is set to be a cohesive journey of far-off adventures, self-discovery and scintillating electronic wizardry. Amongst the enticing tunes, the album is also aligned with What So Not’s dedication to important non-music issues, with What So Not recently announced as a finalist for the Environmental Music Prize. Ultimately, immersive adventures overseas not only helped What So Not flex his creative muscles before heading back home to craft his newly-announced full length-album; they also helped shape his ongoing dedication to raising awareness for issues close to his heart, as he concludes, “Spending time in so many different countries, communities and cultures was such a reality check. We are so fractured and preconditioned to falsities. We have to care about our community and environment, and do what we can in our own circles to collectively protect and benefit everything outside of it. I spent a year travelling the world and exploring sounds. COVID then had me back home, honing in and refining my sonic comprehension. Anomaly is a journey that ruptures reality in order to realise the potential of our own existence. It’ll also feature some of the greatest friends and sound experimenters that I’ve come across in my life”.
