“Both lyrically and vocally, Folick is a trapeze artist, plunging into uncertain,
dark depths only to spring to the other side of the divide.”—Pitchfork

“Miya Folick can predict the future and it’s as sunny as her pop songs”—i-D Magazine
“…the kind of pipes that just don’t seem teachable.”—Paste
April 29, 2022—Much-lauded vocalist, songwriter and producer Miya Folick returns with “Oh God” today—her first new music in three years and the first song to debut from a forthcoming new EP on Nettwerk. Listen to the track, co-produced and co-written with Mike Malchicoff (King Princess, Yellow Days, Del Water Gap), here and watch the video, directed by Lucy Sandler with creative direction by sportscar, here.
“‘Oh God’ is that moment of sudden remorse/panic/fear: when you put your palm to your forehead and wonder what you have done with your life,” says Folick. “You know that something needs to change, and for the first time, you’re willing to try anything.”
Raised in Santa Ana, CA and now living in Los Angeles, Folick first attracted acclaim with two EPs, 2015’s Strange Darling and 2017’s Give It To Me EP. Folick’s 2018 Terrible Records/Interscope debut album Premonitions drew critical praise from NPR, GQ, Pitchfork, The FADER and many more; landed her a Tiny Desk Concert for NPR and saw her sell out headline shows and play festivals the world over.

On July 19, Spektor will be playing a special Carnegie Hall show in New York City. She’s playing a host of dates this summer with Norah Jones, as well as solo dates in Salt Lake City, Beaver Creek and Denver, CO, and Northampton, MA. Complete list of dates below and tickets HERE.
Home, before and after is Regina Spektor's eighth studio album and most quintessentially “New York” in years. Recorded in upstate New York, produced by John Congleton and coproduced by Spektor, the album is Spektor at her most inspired, heralded by "Becoming All Alone," a surrealist ballad that swells with arrangements and comes alive in your head.
During the summer of 2019, Spektor completed a successful five-night Broadway residency at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre, marking her debut on the Great White Way. The Daily Beast called the run “both whimsical and thunderous,” with Gothamist saying Spektor “delights on Broadway with a fun, zany show.”
Spektor’s most recent album, 2016’s Remember Us To Life, has been the subject of extensive critical praise from the likes of NPR, Entertainment WeeklyNew York MagazinePeople and many more.
Regina Spektor is synonymous with New York City. The Russian-Jewish-American singer, songwriter and pianist got her own Sign on the Bronx Walk of Fame, as well as “Regina Spektor Day,” (June 11, 2019) proclaimed by Mayor Bill DeBlasio. The Grammy Award nominee first saw commercial success with the RIAA Gold-certified LP Begin to Hope which includes singles “On the Radio,” “Better,” “Samson,” as well as “Fidelity” which climbed the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. Spektor’s fifth album, Far (2009), and sixth album, What We Saw From the Cheap Seats (2012), both debuted at number three on the Billboard 200 albums chart. Spektor has performed at The White House as well as on Broadway, Saturday Night Live and contributed to many projects spanning film, television, and music including The Hamilton Mixtape.

Electro-Pop Artist IZZA Releases New Single/Video "Love Bracelets"

IZZA SHARES NEW SINGLE & VIDEO "LOVE BRACELETS"

Today, electro-pop singer, songwriter and producer Izza returns with her new single and video, “Love Bracelets."

“Love Bracelets” is an instantly infectious, club-ready single that spreads an empowering message of self-love. Expanding on the new song, Izza says: “I used to value my worth based on how people viewed me and what relationships I was in or wasn’t in. I wrote ‘Love Bracelets’ when I started focusing on myself and discovered that true happiness doesn’t come from loving someone else, but by loving yourself.” Fusing trap-inspired beats, experimental synths and digitized vocals, “Love Bracelets” puts Izza’s knack for creating addictive electro-pop gems on full display.

Inspired by her upbringing in California, Izza’s gritty pop sound and unapologetic lyrics explore the duality between fantasy and reality as she attempts to find purpose in a materialistic world. At age 13, writing songs became a form of therapy and productive rebellion for Izza— an outlet to express herself and her struggles without restriction or consequence.

Since making her debut in 2020 with the release of her first single, “
405,” Izza has quickly risen as a unique force in the pop scene. In the past two years, she’s racked up over 200K streams, generated noteworthy blog buzz, and performed at 320 Festival, an online mental health music festival, alongside acts like Chris Martin (Coldplay), Kiiara, Elohim, and Echosmith.

Gabríel Ólaf's Decca Records debut Solon Islandus set for July 15, "The Drifter" out now

DECCA RECORDS U.S. TO RELEASE GABRÍEL ÓLAFS’ LABEL DEBUT SOLON ISLANDUS JULY 15
 “THE DRIFTER” OUT NOW

April 29, 2022—Solon IslandusGabriel Ólafs’ Decca Records U.S. debut, is set for release July 15. Pre-order HERE and listen/watch/share the first single/video “The Drifter” HERE.
“‘The Drifter' is inspired by an Icelandic folk icon and I wanted the piece to capture his character: playful but there’s also sorrow and hardships. The melody is deliberately sparse to give a sense of his travels,” says Ólafs. “This video is the first in a series of a visual world created for the album by Heimir using macro photography. I love stripping down melodies to the most important parts to build the world of the character around them and the microscopic landscape of Heimir’s visuals for 'The Drifter’ mirror this journey of the character, drifting from place to place.”
An ambitious concept album and transmedia project that pays homage to the artistic spirit of the people of Iceland, Ólafs’ major label debut is a work of personal discovery—an exploration of the artistry, culture and place that has shaped Gabríel’s identity. The record draws inspiration from the writing of one of Iceland’s great poets, Davíð Stefánssonin melodic works for piano, ensemble and choir with spoken word elements.
Ólafs was read Stefánsson’s poems as a child by both his father and grandfather, and he especially fell in love with his earliest poetry collection, Black Feathers (Svartar Fjaðrir), published one hundred years earlier when the poet was the same age as Ólafs when he was making the new album. While recording, Ólafs would read the poems and try to capture their essence in melody.
The title Solon Islandus comes from Stefánsson’s only novel, the tragic tale of a real-life Icelandic drifter, Sölvi Helgason. A composer with a longstanding love of film, Ólafs takes a “directorial” view of compositioncreating motifs and themes to represent characters and emotions. “Tracks like ‘The Drifter’ and ‘Júlíana’ are inspired by characters from the novel,” says Ólafs. “It’s almost as if this was a movie, and these are their themes.”
While influenced by a particular quiet and delicate Icelandic sound verging on minimalist, Ólafs is especially drawn to melodies. “Tchaikovsky, Morricone, John Williams, they can all write a good melody. Nothing really compares.” Working at his piano, Ólafs always begins with melodies, recording the results with voice memos on his phone. “I have maybe 200 of them,” Ólafs notes. For Solon Islandus, he tried to simplify his melodies as much as possible. “I wanted to match the poems, which are straight to the point, straight to the heart,” he explains.
Gabríel Ólafs was only 14 when he wrote the song that landed him his first record deal, which saw his first album, Absent Minded, released on an independent label five years later. His tracks have since been streamed tens of millions of times online; his music is, writes PopMatters, “brimming with beauty.”

Standout tracks on the record include recent singles ‘The Sulking Poet,’ ‘Care For,’ ‘Ode To NYC and the album’s title track, ‘Ribbon Around The Bomb.’ Other highlights include ‘The Writer’ which deals with the fear of, and frustration associated with writer’s block and ‘Everything About You,’ one of the album’s only love songs, which Tom says is “as honest as they come.” ‘Visions meanwhile contains one of the album’s key lyrics “Was I complete at 23,” as Tom explains. “At 23 I had just had a number 1 album and begun my relationship with my now wife Katie. Reflecting on what I’d achieved at such a young age left me wondering, what now?”

Speaking about inspiration and meaning behind the album’s title, Tom Ogden explains, “While on tour in 2019 in Mexico, I visited Frida Kahlo’s house. Looking at her paintings on show, someone had described one of them as being like a ‘ribbon around a bomb’. I immediately thought that it was a great title for a song and album because of the imagery that it evoked in my mind. I thought about how lots of things in life could be described as being a ribbon around a bomb in the sense that as people we often dress things up which have a darkness lying beneath them.”

This album revolves around a central character, ‘The Writer’. The more songs I wrote, the more I realized The Writer is in fact me,” Ogden reveals. “Having been so busy for the past 8 years, I never really had the chance to step back and reflect on what we’ve achieved, you’re so hellbent on the future, write the next album, tour, your life is usually mapped out almost 2 years in advance.”

Edwin Burdis, Arctic Monkeys’ Creative Director, who worked on the band’s Tranquility Base Hotel & Casinoand AM albums has directed all of the creative and music videos for ‘Ribbon Around The Bomb,’ as well as a film of the same name, which will premiere at The Plaza Theatre in Blossoms’ hometown, Stockport next Tuesday, May 3rd. Watch the most recent music video for ‘The Sulking Poet’ HERE.
