DORA JAR RELEASES NEW EP "There’s an Elton John backbeat in her piano chords, but also a 21st-century sense of possibility..." - THE NEW YORK TIMES “The year’s best EP so far” - ***** NME "Impressive range, progressing from winding folk and distorted rock to offbeat, Sugar Ray-style pop to minimal trap and R&B. Many of Jar’s contemporaries gravitate toward plain, relatable lyrics, but the singer absorbs the fanciful logic of fairy tales..." - PITCHFORK “Dora Jar’s angelic voice creates unforgettable moments within her music” - PIGEONS & PLANES “The rising artist all of your favourite Gen Z musicians are obsessed with” - BRITISH VOGUE |
comfortably in pain is the brilliant new EP from Dora Jar. Featuring new single and visualizer “It’s Random”, recent release “Lagoon” and fan favorite “Scab Song”, this follows 2021’s Digital Meadow project and an incredible run for Dora, having just toured the US with Billie Eilish – and also performed alongside the likes of Holly Humberstone, Remi Wolf and The Neighbourhood. For Dora Jar, comfortably in pain is an EP about accepting dark times but not being defined by them; turning pain into art, human connection, and a reminder of what it means to feel alive. One of the year’s most exciting breakthrough artists, it’s a further window into the unique mind of Dora Jar: an artist whose songwriting shifts from the magical (“Lagoon” is written from the perspective of a lonely mermaid) to the intimacies of the present day (“It’s Random” is about the absurdity and aimlessness of life in lockdown) whilst remaining entirely true to herself. Dora Jar is a free spirit with an old soul. The 24-year-old's formative sound spans influences of bedroom pop, grunge, folk and are held together by Dora’s playful, sometimes-eccentric visual eye, which is equal parts existential as it is in the spirit of Jim Henson. Beneath her elastic sound and eye-catching style, Dora Jar is an artist of deep substance. Half Polish, born in New York but raised in LA, she found particular inspiration after a period in London, where she started uploading little snippets of herself playing music to Instagram. Soon, she connected with producers like Solomonophonic, Felix Joseph, Ralph Castelli, Vron (and more recently John DeBold on the new project) - with whom Dora crafted her hugely accomplished debut EP, Digital Meadow. Early co-signs followed from the likes of Moses Sumney and Charli XCX, as well as Grimes and Billie Eilish for breakout tracks like “Polly” and “Multiply”, before Dora played her first ever live shows late last year (memorably arriving on stage in London whilst carried in a body-bag, to the overture of “The Sound of Music”). Even whilst comfortably in pain, Dora Jar’s fantastical, explorative but rawly honest pop ultimately appears full of possibilities (as too, is the symbolism of her alias). “I want to leave the door ajar in my imagination. Let light seep through the crack.” LISTEN TO COMFORTABLY IN PAIN WATCH THE VISUALIZER FOR “IT’S RANDOM” |
