Breakout Australian four-piece, Spacey Jane, today announce their new album, Here Comes Everybody, out June 10th, 2022 with new single "Sitting Up." Listen to the irresistible, jangly-sad-jam HERE + pre-order/pre-save the entire album HERE.
So distinctly Spacey Jane, "Sitting Up" is another indie rock daydream... or in this case, maybe a night terror made upbeat and set to drums, bass, and guitar rhythms that playfully create kinetic energy off of each other, almost mocking the dark lyrics. Coming on the heels of their 2021 singles "Lunchtime" and "Lots Of Nothing", and debut 2020 album, Sunlight, which collectively garnered tens of millions of streams, sold out three national tours, hit #3 in triple j's iconic Hottest 100 2021 poll (and #2 in the 2020 poll), and won them Song Of The Year at the 2021 ARIAs. They've also turn heads at NPR Music, Ones To Watch, SPIN, & more.
Of "Sitting Up," Spacey Jane lead singer Caleb Harper says, "I wrote this about the way I was feeling and behaving when I was in my final semester of uni before dropping out. I left quite unceremoniously by not showing up to any of my final exams or handing in final assessments. I had no idea who I was, I was seriously depressed and completely spinning out. I felt like I’d created this terrible facade of myself for all of these people that I knew and that really I hadn’t been myself around someone or been truthful about my feelings in years. I didn’t care about my life or what I was doing to my body, I thought I was going to end up dead if I didn’t fix something. I felt like I was the only one going through those feelings and even though that wasn’t true, it made me feel so alone.”
This is what they do best: hitting you hard with contemplative, insightful lyrics, delivered by frontman Caleb Harper with unmistakable verve and balancing it out with a boost of dopamine in the instrumentation and arrangement. Along with the summery jangle of guitars from Ashton Hardman-LeCornu, the peppy drums from Kieran Lama, and Peppa Lane's effortless bass and dreamy harmonies, there's an innocence written and revoked in everything Spacey Jane does.
“We want to connect with people on a deep level,” Peppa says. “You can have a large audience and still not connect with them, but to have that audience and feel like they’re part of it is what we want." Thankfully, they've got just announced their first US tour to kick off this May and have already sold out their NYC debut - all dates below & stay tuned for more.
