PONTHIER JOINS LORD HURON ON LONG LOST TOUR; PERFORMANCE AT AUSTIN CITY LIMITS FESTIVAL
August 6, 2021 (Santa Monica, CA)—Today, 25-year-old singer-songwriter Allison Ponthier has released her debut EP, Faking My Own Death, accompanied by the gleefully campy music video for the project’s title track. Faking My Own Death EP is available HERE via Interscope. Watch the video HERE.
“The EP has genuinely changed my life,” Ponthier says of Faking My Own Death. “After making it, I feel like I finally stripped away all the parts of myself that I was wearing to appease other people and got to all of my favorite parts that I was hiding for so long.”
Directed by the visionary Jordan Bahat, who also helmed Ponthier’s “Cowboy” and “Harshest Critic” visuals, the new “Faking My Own Death” video takes viewers on a journey through stunts of escalating danger and scope, inspired by legends like Evil Knievel and Harry Houdini. “’Faking My Own Death’ is a song about realizing I was burning bridges and reinventing myself every few years,” Ponthier says. “I went through many different phases and every three years I would start again, whether it would be a new partner or job or city. Around the time we wrote the song, I realized that three years had passed, and I had no desire to change because I finally was who and where I wanted to be.”
Faking My Own Death merges raw self-expression with a sound both timeless and delicately inventive, tapping Ponthier’s affinity for indie-folk and alt-rock, yet hinting at her country roots with its heart-on-sleeve storytelling. Producers and writers who joined her in the studio include Mike Crossey (Arctic Monkeys, The 1975), Rick Nowels (Lana Del Rey, Stevie Nicks), Ethan Gruska (Phoebe Bridgers), Dan Wilson (Adele, The Chicks), and Adam Melchor. Along with “Hell Is A Crowded Room,” the EP is anchored by her debut single, “Cowboy” and “Harshest Critic.” See below for track listing.
Ponthier joins her recent “I Lied” duet partner Lord Huron on select dates for the Long Lost Tour which kicks off September 9th in Philadelphia and hits a variety of outdoor venues in New York City, Los Angeles, Boston, Seattle, Portland, and other markets across the country. Check out the full itinerary HERE. They recently performed their collaboration “I Lied,” on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Watch it HERE. Ponthier will also be performing on Sunday, October 3 during Weekend One of this year’s Austin City Limits Festival.
