Sounds of Saving (SoS) has teamed with the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline to release a new episode of their “Song that Found Me At The Right Time” series. This latest collaboration features Cassandra Jenkins, who chose to record her take on Eartheater’s “Faith Consuming Hope.”

She shares: “Music has always been a primary way for me to connect my mind and body, before I was ever consciously thinking about how important that connection is for my mental health. At the most basic level, music is a conversation between those two aspects of our experience, and when I'm performing, that dialogue includes everyone around me. More and more, when it comes to my mental health, singing is one of the most powerful tools I have to engage my nervous system in a way that harnesses a sense of safety in my body, which in turn allows me to move through my emotions and the world more freely. And the more I can hold that space for myself, the more I'm inviting other people around me to do the same.” Cassandra also sat down with the SoS and Lifeline for a Q&A. Watch that interview and her cover of “Faith Consuming Hope” here:

Sounds of Saving created the “Song that Found Me At The Right Time” in 2019 to help promote honest, intimate conversations about mental health. They emphasize the impact of music of all genres on human connection, coping during difficult times and maintaining mental wellbeing. Engaging with musicians, the series reveals how a song found each artist at the right time, as well as sharing how each artist has managed to cope and even thrive in the face of difficult times and emotional crisis. For every one person that dies by suicide, 316 people think seriously about suicide but go on to live out their lives. These are untold stories that must be shared. During the pandemic approximately 1 in 4 young adults has had suicidal thoughts.

Since its launch SoS has collaborated with Sharon Van Etten who recorded her version of Nine Inch Nails’ “Hurt.” The critically acclaimed release drew attention from the likes of Rolling StonePitchforkAV ClubUproxx, and Stereogum. More recently they shared Adia Victoria’s take on Erykah Badu’s “On and On” They have also worked with Black Belt Eagle Scout covering Grouper’s Heavy Water / I'd Rather Be Sleeping,” lyricist/ producer/ vocalist KeiyaA who covered Jazmine Sullivan’s “Silver Lining,” Jamie Lidell who covered Sly and The Family Stone’s “Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin), and Kate Davis who recorded a take on Daniel Johnstons "Too Young To Die.”

About Cassandra Jenkins
Brooklyn-based Cassandra Jenkins released her latest album An Overview on Phenomenal Nature earlier this year. Her new record departs from her previous work in its openness and flexibility, following her peripatetic lifestyle. “The goal is to be more fluid, to be more like the clouds shifting constantly,” she says. The approach allowed Jenkins to express herself like she never has. Pitchfork noted, “In just over half an hour, it features one perfect song (the dazzling “Hard Drive”), five excellent ones, and an instrumental coda.” Calling her album “one of year’s best so far” Spin said, “Jenkins’ songs are like haikus, where plain words sort of stumble into the profound” and Stereogum labeled the album “extraordinary.”

About Sounds of Saving:
Sounds of Saving (SoS) was founded by Nick Greto and Charlie Gross. The organization successfully launched a campaign that placed free vinyl LPs throughout NYC that included mental health information. They have released 10 “Songs that Found Me” videos and interviews with artists from multiple genres. In 2019 SoS hosted its inaugural “Feedback Sessions” event, which involved musical performance and an open moderated discussion between artists, audience and a psychologist about the theme of “Inertia.”

All donations to SoS will support the nonprofit’s creation of an easily-accessible online platform to bring stories, support, and resources to creatives and all people seeking a way through the darkness.
