NOISE POP’S FLAGSHIP MUSIC FESTIVAL RETURNS FEBRUARY 21-27, 2022 TO SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA

NOISE POP’S FLAGSHIP MUSIC FESTIVAL RETURNS

FEBRUARY 21-27, 2022 TO SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA

20TH STREET BLOCK PARTY ALSO RETURNS

THIS OCTOBER TO SF’S MISSION DISTRICT

--  Super Early-Bird Tickets On Sale Now --

SAN FRANCISCO, CA (May 28, 2021) - Noise Pop Industries is excited to announce the return of two of the biggest and most beloved annual events in the San Francisco Bay Area - Noise Pop Festival 2022 and 20th Street Block Party 2021. A limited number of Super Early-Bird badges for Noise Pop Festival as well as Headliner Lounge passes for the Block Party are on sale now at noisepopfest.com and 20thstreetblockparty.com, respectively.

San Francisco Bay Area’s premier indie music and arts festival, Noise Pop Festival will officially return for a 29th year on Monday, February 21 through February 27, 2022. Early next year, Noise Pop Festival will once again transform the entire SF Bay Area into sprawling festival grounds as multiple events take place each night at various venues across the city over the course of a week next February.

The city-wide celebration of independent culture regularly spans across more than 20 of the Bay Area’s most iconic music venues while also hosting art shows, film screenings, happy hours, after-hour parties, and more. Through a continued effort to offer attendees ample opportunities for music discovery, the festival regularly offers a meticulously curated lineup chock full of exciting up-and-coming and underground artists performing alongside some of the most sought-after musicians and creative artists in the world.

As a special thank you to supporters of Noise Pop, especially during the unprecedented events of the past year, an extremely limited number of Super Early-Bird festival badges to the city-wide, multi-venue event are on sale now at noisepopfest.com for the low price of just $99. Once these initial badges are sold out, the festival’s tiered pricing structure will continue to reward those who buy early with badge prices going up as the festival approaches and as future waves of artists are announced. All badges grant access to all general admission (non-reserved seating) music concerts, badge-only happy hours, and some very special events to be announced, as well as all film screening events throughout the weeklong festival.

“It’s been a long, strange year but it’s great to finally be getting back to normal,” said Noise Pop Founder Kevin Arnold.  “One of the positive things that came out of quarantine was a bunch of great music, and we can’t wait to help bring live entertainment back to the Bay Area. With a continued focus on supporting indie musicians and the local arts community, our team can’t wait to roll out our next big event!”

While fans await the return of Noise Pop’s flagship music festival next year, the team is also preparing for a much sooner return of the 20th Street Block Party on Saturday, October 16, 2021. This fall, the 20th Street corridor between Harrison and Bryant Streets will once again be transformed into a daylong admission-free all-ages party while bringing together some of the best music acts from the Bay Area and beyond to the heart of San Francisco’s historic Mission District.

Part street food festival, part music festival, and part local shopping bazaar, the community-wide event helps to showcase the diverse neighborhood that was home to the Noise Pop offices for over a decade. With a focus on all things local, 20th Street Block Party highlights the small businesses, food, music, art, and culture that inspires the 20th Street community and beyond.

Although the event will once again be free to attend, Noise Pop is offering a limited number of Headliner Lounge passes available for purchase today for just $49 at 20thstreetblockparty.com. Headliner ticket-holders will be treated to a private lounge and bar, exclusive outdoor viewing areas, complimentary adult beverages (21+ only), bites from some of the best restaurants in the Mission District, and other perks to be announced closer to the event date.

Both of these events mark the latest public offerings from the Noise Pop team who for nearly three decades have become cultural arbiters and community advocates of the local SF music scene while promoting thousands of concerts and producing popular music festival properties. Although the 2020 iteration of each of these in-person events was put on pause due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Noise Pop team has continued to innovate and identify new opportunities for growth over the past year.

Most notably, the team successfully launched a live stream concert series entitled “No Place Like Home” that raised funds for independent music artists and local venues, while promoting awareness of each of their cultural contributions to the city. All funds raised for the virtual event series were later shared between the co-promoting venue and artists. In total, over 240,000 online viewers in the Bay Area and beyond participated in the virtual event, while raising over $25,000 for the SF music community.

While in-person concerts were put on pause, the Noise Pop team also created a custom Patreon membership club last year that provides donors with year-round access to everything Noise Pop has to offer as well as special member-only perks.

Both local residents and music lovers from all across the country are encouraged to plan ahead, purchase tickets today, and show their support for one of the longest-standing independent music promoters in the country. "The Kings of Convenience have returned at the perfect time." MTV
Today Kings of Convenience - the Norwegian duo of Eirik Glambeck Boe and Erlend Oye -  release “Fever,” the second track from their highly anticipated new album Peace or Love, via IMPERIAL Music on June 18. The band has amassed over a billion streams globally and the album marks their first album in over a decade. Today’s single is an intimate, bossa nova infused piece, with the duo’s chiming guitar melodies beautifully complimented by lilting strings and elegant piano. The song’s lyrics are a testament to their skill as writers, using the fever metaphor as a way of exploring love, both in its highs and its lows. “Fever” is the song on Peace or Love that was the quickest to write, born from a pure and simple burst of inspiration” explains Erlend. “The recording and arranging however, was as usual a long process, culminating in Eirik adding the riveting piano outro in the albums final days of recording in February 2020.”

LISTEN/SHARE “FEVER” HERE.
Kings of Convenience have confirmed two shows at London’s Royal Festival Hall in September as well as dates throughout Europe. Erlend notes, "Its been a difficult year for tour planning, but now that the US seems to open up, we are looking at the earliest options for a tour of the biggest markets there." Watch this space for news of a North American tour to follow.

Previous to “FeverKings Of Convenience shared “Rocky Trail” to world-wide critical acclaim and excitement.

"(it) picks up right where they left off, with deftly picked and intricately layered acoustic guitars and a pastoral lilt." Stereogum on “Rocky Trail”

"Eirik Glambeck BoE and Erlend Oye intertwine their gentle vocals and guitars in classic Kings of Convenience fashion on “Rocky Trail,” with keening violin adding a bitter ache to the mix." Paste

"'Rocky Trail' (is) breezy, detailed, and beautifully intimate — the type of single where acoustic guitars blossom into stunning floral bouquets alongside delicate vocal harmonies." Consequence

"A listen to ‘Rocky Trail’ ...is almost like stepping into a portal to another, rose-tinted world. It’s guitar-driven mood music and escapism of the best kind, and we didn’t know we needed it." Guitar World

"wonderful, the kind of light, effervescent song -- full of violin, vibraphone on Eirik and Erlend's harmonies -- that Kings of Convenience make sound effortless."
Brooklyn Vegan on “Rocky Trail”

"(a) delightful song." MXDWN

"they’re still using incredible acoustic guitar play to mold these wonderful melodies, then intertwining their voices majestically." Austin Town Hall on “Rocky Trail”

Peace or Love is the sound of two old friends exploring the latest phase of their lives together and finding new ways to capture that elusive magic. recorded across five years in five different cities, the album sounds as fresh as spring: 11 songs about life and love with the alluring beauty, purity and emotional clarity that you would expect from Kings of Convenience.

Eirik Glambeck Boe and Erlend Oye met at school in Bergen, Norway and first performed together in the rock band Skog before breaking off and forming a duo in 1999. The pair established themselves as inadvertent trailblazers of a new wave of intimate, acoustic music. They’ve released 3 critically acclaimed albums, toured all around the world and cultivated a dedicated fanbase.

The Linda Lindas Sign To Epitaph Records

THE LINDA LINDAS SIGN TO EPITAPH RECORDS

L.A.-BASED PUNK BAND TO MAKE THEIR NATIONAL TV DEBUT
JUNE 3 ON “JIMMY KIMMEL LIVE!”

Epitaph Records is thrilled to announce the signing of The Linda Lindas. The label approached the Los Angeles-based, all-female punk band behind the viral smash hit “Racist, Sexist Boy” several months prior to their now-legendary set at the L.A. Public Library. With their explosive and authentic collision of garage-punk, power-pop, and new wave, The Linda Lindas are an exciting new addition to the Epitaph roster.

"Epitaph offered us full creative control and they’re really supportive of what we want to do as a band,” says Linda Lindas vocalist/guitarist Lucia, age 14. “We’re really happy about signing with them, and we can’t wait to put out more music.”

Founded in 2018, The Linda Lindas also include Lucia’s 10-year-old sister Mila (vocals, drums), their 13-year-old cousin Eloise (vocals, bass), and longtime friend 16-year-old Bela (vocals, guitar). They first played together when former Dum Dum Girls frontwoman Kristin Kontrol invited them to take the stage to play covers for Girlschool LA (a music and ideas festival focused on connecting and empowering women-identified artists, leaders, and voices). After forming their own band and playing DIY gigs around Los Angeles, they were asked to open for punk icon Alice Bag and for seminal riot grrrl band Bikini Kill at one of their 2019 reunion shows at the Hollywood Palladium. In time, the band began writing their own material, including a song featured in the 2020 Netflix documentary The Claudia Kishi Club.

In December 2020, The Linda Lindas released their self-titled, self-released debut EP showcasing their high-energy and heartfelt brand of punk, naming Jawbreaker, The Go-Go’s, and The Alley Cats among their inspirations. Months later, they appeared in a key scene of Amy Poehler’s Moxie!

On May 4, 2021, The Linda Lindas’ set at the Cypress Park branch of the L.A. Public Library was streamed as an AAPI Heritage Month event (the band members are Asian American, Latinx, or both). The highlight of their 40-minute set: a blistering performance of “Racist, Sexist Boy.” In addition to amassing over four million views on Instagram, the clip has earned major praise from the likes of Hayley Williams, Questlove, Flea, and members of Rage Against the Machine and Sonic Youth.

"We knew the song would get a good reaction, but we never imagined this,” says Eloise. “Even though we started the band for fun, now it feels we can actually make a difference with what we’re doing.”

Lucia adds: “People have reached out to us from all over the world — we get a lot of messages from little girls, but we also get messages from grandmothers. We always hope that the music we put out will inspire other young girls, but we also want it to make anyone feel like they can do anything, no matter what age they are.”

Currently, at work on new music, The Linda Lindas will make their national television debut on Thursday, June 3, on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” at 11:35pm/10:35pm CT on ABC.

The Linda Lindas are Eloise (vocals, bass), Mila (vocals, drums), Bela (vocals, guitar), and Lucia (vocals, guitar).

May 5, 2021 -- After time out to raise a family, Dot Allison returns with Heart-Shaped Scars, her most realised and illuminating album to date, available from July 30th on SA Recordings.

Lead single "Long Exposure", out today, is indicative of the album’s fragile beauty and is, says Allison, “One of the first songs I wrote on ukulele.  Last March I picked up the instrument and started composing, the fact I don’t play the ukulele was very freeing and I had to compose purely by ear, constructing my own chord clusters.”

Framed by a backdrop of exquisitely sparse and intoxicating dream-folk, Heart-Shaped Scars is Allison’s most personal record to date. It gathers many threads of Allison’s interests - music, literature, science and nature. “I wanted it to be comforting like a familiar in-utero heartbeat, a pure kind of album that musically imbues a return to nature,” she explains.
The album is produced by Allison alongside Fiona Cruickshank, with Hannah Peel adding string arrangements to four songs, courtesy of a quintet of Scottish folk musicians.  Recorded at Castlesound Studios in Edinburgh - Dot’s home town - the sessions include new collaborations with singer songwriters Amy Bowman “The Haunted” and Zoë Bestel, “Can You Hear Nature Sing?”.

Field recordings of birdsong, rivers and the ambience of The Hebrides - where Dot has a cottage - also played their part.  A location for gatherings amongst folk musician pals (Sarah Campbell and Amy Bowman included), “sharing ideas and passing instruments between us all, amongst friends and the island community,” says Allison. “It’s where I first sang ‘Long Exposure’ in public at a folk house-concert. So, I can definitely hear some of the Hebrides in 'Heart-Shaped Scars’.

The influence of folk-minded artists in her record collection, such as Karen Dalton, Gene Clark, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Carole King, Nick Drake and Brian Wilson are evident but most poignantly is the late Andy Weatherall.  Weatherall produced 'Morning Dove White', the album that launched Dot’s career with the band One Dove and who "championed, signed and mentored me… I hear his influence throughout all of my albums.”

Since 1999’s Afterglow, Allison has striven to “keep the listener on a journey – and myself too.”   That journey has taken her from Afterglow’s broad church (trip-hop, Tim Buckley-esque ballads, chilled psychedelia) to the sultry synth-pop of We Are Science (2002), the baroque Exaltation of Larks (2007) and the roots drama of Room 7½ (2009).  She’s worked with an extraordinary roll call of talent - Kevin Shields, Hal David, Paul Weller, and Darren Emerson, Massive Attack, Scott Walker, Slam, Philip Shepard, The Babyshambles & Pete Doherty, underlining the huge respect her peers hold her in.
On Heart-Shaped Scars Allison mines a deeply emotive seam. “Love, loss and a universal longing for union that seems to go with the human condition. To me, music is a sort of tonic or an antidote to a kind of longing, for a while at least.”

Allison Russell Nominated for Americana Honors & Awards + Announces Tour Dates

 ALLISON RUSSELL
NOMINATED FOR AMERICANA HONORS & AWARDS

ANNOUNCES TOUR DATES

OUT NOW ON FANTASY
Cover photo by Marc Baptiste

“The singer and songwriter’s debut solo album, ‘Outside Child,’ tells a harrowing story with a survivor’s joy. Throughout the album, she sings about deliverance and redemption, about the places and people and realizations that helped her survive and claim her freedom. It’s an album of strength and affirmation, not victimization.” - New York Times

"Singing a blend of elegant torch songs, ancestral ballads (in French and English), gentle country shuffles, and Al-Green inspired R&B, Russell embarks on a fresh musical beginning by dealing directly with her traumatic upbringing...Despite its heavy inspirations, ‘Outside Child’ is anything but despairing or academic." - Rolling Stone

"One of the most exciting voices in roots music. Russell explores her troubled upbringing, and how her creative life helped her overcome pain and abuse." - San Francisco Chronicle

"With her gorgeously soulful and often sad voice, this singer-songwriter by way of Montreal and Nashville confronts the trauma of her abusive upbringing. Whether sung in French, with a light twang or as southern soul, the songs are deeply emotional and righteously liberating. Maybe the best album of 2021 so far." - Minneapolis Star Tribune

“Allison Russell’s first solo album, soars on wings of resilience and redemption, but not before walking through the valley of the shadows of pain and abuse and desolate loneliness. The 11-song cycle circles outward in ever expanding arcs.” - No Depression

“A stunning exploration of trauma she endured in her youth, examined with new insight and wisdom that only time and distance can bring” - Nashville Scene

"The lyrics to ‘Nightflyer’ are mostly a list, a poetic and far-reaching one: ‘I’m the moon’s dark side, I’m the solar flare/the child of the earth, the child of the air/I am the mother of the evening star/I am the love that conquers all.’ Allison Russell sings them over a stately blend of country and church as she summons a congregation of her own vocal harmonies, gathering strength as she promises reassurance." - The New York Times on “Nightflyer”

"Triumph glistens along poetic lyric lines as Russell uncovers unforeseen strength. Understanding this deeply rooted resilience derives from generations of strife, the artist beams with pride knowing the same strength will continue to build for her daughter and generations to come." - American Songwriter

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - MAY 27th, 2021 - It was announced yesterday that Allison Russell is nominated for “Emerging Act of The Year” at the Americana Music Association’s Annual Awards taking place September 22nd. Russell, who performed at the nomination ceremony was also given a nod for “Best Duo or Group” along with her bandmates in the supergroup, Our Native Daughters. “Russell’s solo debut just came out Friday and, based on early reception, is a likely contender for album of the year next time around,” said Variety. Yesterday, she was also profiled by journalist Jewly Hight on NPR’s All Things Considered.  “On Outside Child, she's proved that her voice can carry a story of tremendous weight,” said NPR, “ — of desperate youthful survival and imaginative applications of agency — and command the spotlight in the revelatory telling of it.”

Earlier this week, Russell made her late night television debut on Jimmy Kimmel Live! performing her single “Nightflyer,” with Brittney Spencer and Brandi Carlile. The audio of the performance is available for purchase with proceeds going to the The National Bail Out #FreeBlackMamas initiative. The National Bail Out Collective is a Black-led collective of abolitionist organizers, lawyers and activists building a community based movement to end systems of pretrial detention and ultimately mass incarceration.
