Sylph today shares
“In The Morning Light,” the latest track to be taken from the forthcoming debut EP,
Silver As It Was Before, out
May 21 on Mute.
Sylph is the solo project of former S.C.U.M founder and vocalist Thomas Cohen. This new track is a collaboration with Berlin-based producer and artist
Nicholas Bougaïeff. Watch the video via
PopMatters.
“’In The Morning Light’ is a song about unification and the sunrise, recorded in the summer of 2018 in Berlin,” Cohen explains. He goes on to say that the video was shot
“just outside of Muscat in Oman. We would only shoot at night and early in the morning, climbing the beautifully deformed rocks that overlooked the ocean.” Nicolas Bougaïeff ellaborates,
“I was really drawn to this idea of a song structure combining harsh mechanical vibes and ethereal vocals. During recording, we spent a few days and nights going out to Berghain in between jam sessions at my studio.” Pre-order

Intended to be both psychedelic and collaborative in nature, Sylph is informed by notions of space and congregation, built loosely around the concept of “mass” with an elemental mix of electronic grit and club zing.
Together with a techno collaborators Regis, Terence Fixmer, Nicolas Bougaïeff, and Rrose, Cohen poured his ideas and inspirations – from architecture to textiles – into a series of club-tinged EPs, set for release through 2021. The first of these,
Silver As It Was Before, launched with “
Braid,” a collaboration with
Terence Fixmer, and was described by Clash as a
“wiry techno chassis wrapped around an art-punk perspective.” Listen
