“The visual component... reinforces the riveting impressions of depletion and uncertainty put forth in the song without abandoning belief in the possibility of renewal.”
LadyGunn

Today, LadyGunn interviews Breanna Barbara and debuts the music video for "Big Bang Blues," a striking visual treatment directed by Kate Beecroft and shot in the Salton Sea in California.

The Salton Sea was historically a freshwater lake that served as a thriving vacation spot in the 1950s-60s which hosted entertainers such as Frank Sinatra and The Beach Boys, before it saw its ecosystem deteriorate due to the use of pesticides. The rising salinity of the water eventually decimated 97% of its 100 million fish population and the grounds became a skeleton-filled toxic wasteland, just a decade later. "It was the perfect setting for not only what's been happening to our planet but also that apocalyptic feeling inside yourself that the song explores," Breanna explains in the interview, before adding, "which I think we all felt this past year."

The video brought together a reputable crew, including some heavy hitters like colorist
Bryan Smaller whose work credits include The Weekend’s Starboy, Ariana Grande’s thank u next, and Cardi B & Megan Thee Stallion’s WAP, to name just a few.

"Big Bang Blues" is Breanna Barbara's first solo release in four years, which came out on 7" via
Freeman Street Records this winter after debuting on The CW's 'In The Dark' (available on Netflix). For every sale of the physical 7", $1 has been and will be donated to Until Freedom, an intersectional justice organization rooted in leadership of diverse people of color to address systemic and racial injustice.

For "Big Bang Blues", Barbara enrolled The Raconteurs & Dead Weather's Jack Lawrence on the bass and Tall Juan on classical guitar for a new departure, which pulled her into a higher realm to explore the eternal question: what do I believe in? - a fitting follow-up to her collaboration with Tricky
When We Die, which had garnered praises from Clash Magazine who described the re-worked single as “about as raw and stripped back as you can imagine, Barbara’s powerful vocals accompanied only by acoustic bass and mournful string section.”
