"It never gets easier, we just get stronger," says Jillian Speece of The Bergamot. As 2020 comes to a close, The Bergamot (Nathaniel Hoff and Jillian Speece) are thrilled to treat fans to a free holiday show. The performance was previously recorded at The Acorn Theater in Three Oaks, MI. The show will air via The Bergamot’s YouTube channel at 8pm ET on December 10th.
“We hope our virtual ‘Christmas Special’ offers a glimmer of hope and warmth for all who watch it because the truth is it is always darkest before dawn. Yet the healing power of music cuts through the darkness and emits a ray of light during this season. Music reminds us all that good times start with an open heart and a willingness to look for the good in ourselves and in other people. Sure, this holiday season does not look anything like what we all are used to but the good news is that music has a way of spreading love and hope faster and further than most things which is exactly what we hope for with our Christmas special.”
Like the rest of the world, 2020 has been an interesting, yet pivotal year for The Bergamot.
This past Spring and Summer the duo performed 100 live-streamed concerts in 100 consecutive days. The band was abruptly forced to stop touring, but they wanted to continue to bring music to their fans, as well as themselves. The daily performances provided a platform for discovery, that ultimately translated to countless new fans.
And what can the world expect from The Bergamot in the future?
“I mean when everything you have worked so hard for evaporates overnight due to an unexpected pandemic you have to learn to get stronger and grow,” says Speece. “It was not easy but we feel stronger than ever and will continue forging forward.”
For 2021, the Bergamot is set to release a new studio album, a full length documentary that Speece and Hoff produced and recorded in 2016 called "State of the Unity" and Speece and Hoff will debut their own solo projects. “phew that is a lot on the stovetop but we are ready for it... 2021 bring it!”
About The Bergamot
The Bergamot is an American indie-folk-rock band based in Brooklyn, New York. The two founding members and songwriters of The Bergamot are husband and wife Nathaniel Hoff and Jillian Speece. The band formed in 2009 by lead guitarist/vocalist Nathaniel Hoff and lead vocalist Jillian Speece in college at Indiana University Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW).
After college Hoff and Speece began touring America extensively sharing their positive music and vibes with their fans. In 2012 The Bergamot won the Bud Light Battle of the Bands and in 2017 they won Project: Aloft Star Competition. Another tipping point came for the band when Rock Band along with ReverbNation and Firefly Music Festival licensed the group's song "Forget About Tomorrow" for the video game "Rock Band: Rivals". Overnight the band was on the front of YouTube gaming pages with people performing the band's music in the video game. "It brought about a level of awareness we had never seen before in our music overnight," says Hoff. The Bergamot was becoming a household name.
Through the years they have opened up for artists such as All American Rejects, Young The Giant and Wiz Kalifa. The duo has performed at SXSW, Taste of Chicago and Bud Lights Port Paradise Music Festival located in the Bahamas and they have graced the pages of People Magazine, US Weekly, BuzzFeed, Paste Magazine, Earmilk, Icon Magazine, The Daily Record (UK), The Daily Mirror (UK), The Chicago Tribune, Brooklyn Vegan, Pancakes & Whisky, WGN Chicago, CBS, and HGTV.
The Bergamot’s uplifting songs are powered by unbreakable harmonies with seamless songwriting adeptness that combines a story of both the joys and heartaches of life. The duo creates songs that are uplifting, catchy, and downright fun and with performances that are high energy, infectious, and have turned first-time listeners into instant fans.
