The 24-track compilation features live performances of songs from Will Sheff and his bandmates’ nine LPs, from their 2002 debut Don’t Fall in Love with Everyone You See to their mid-2000s breakout albums Black Sheep Boy and The Stage Names and their most recent studio album, 2018’s In the Rainbow Rain. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Sheff addressed the timeliness of releasing the album in a world where live music is on hold: “I’ve always believed that the communal togetherness of musical performance is as sacred as any church or mystical rite. But now I feel the truth of that more keenly than ever before since there’s nothing left to take for granted. I miss playing music so much, and I understand with so much greater depth what an honor it was to stand on a stage. I would be beyond thrilled, at this point, to relive even the absolute crappiest gig of my career.” The vinyl edition of A Dream in the Dark is packaged in a quadruple-sleeved hardback booklet and features rare photographs of the band throughout the years. It is streaming everywhere now and vinyl is available for purchase HERE. Last night, the band revived their fan-favorite Rarities & Requests show style format for the first Okkervil River streaming performance of the year.
