(Los Angeles, CA - July 17, 2020) -- Following a slew of critically acclaimed singles, The Aces debut their highly anticipated sophomore album, Under My Influence, out now via Red Bull Records. Spanning across 14 tracks, the long-awaited album is the band’s most vulnerable and authentic project to date, exploring themes of love, sexuality, mental health, friendship, and more, each with The Aces’ signature flair. Co-written by The Aces in addition to serving as executive producers, the band also tapped notable collaborators including Justin Tranter, Jesse Shatkin, Zach Skelton, Mike Green, Kyle Shearer, Christian Medice and more for the project. “We began writing ‘Under My Influence’ with one thing in mind: if the vulnerability scared us, we were headed in the right direction and we had to keep going,” The Aces explain. “It’s been a journey of growth, healing, love and above all, honesty. Not only with the world, but with ourselves. ‘Under My Influence’ is a rebellion. Creating this album was an opportunity to take everything we’d ever been taught and question it. An opportunity to choose who we wanted to become, unapologetically and on purpose. These songs are our stories. Thank you for listening.” From the opening chords of their irresistible pop-infused single “Daydream,” Under My Influence is The Aces at their best yet. Unleashing a steadily maturing, unapologetic confidence, The Aces’ second album showcases the band’s sonic evolution and continued exploration as artists. A complex snapshot of their lives, each track on Under My Influence embraces not only where the band has been, but where they’re headed. Whether it’s lamenting on love and loss in a new city on “Lost Angeles,” reminiscing their hometown of Provo, Utah on “801,” delving into the pressures of social media on “My Phone Is Trying To Kill Me,” or exploring gender pronouns in their lyricism for the first time on “Kelly,” Under My Influence is a bold reflection of the band members’ own experiences, told with thoughtful introspection and universal relatability. Under My Influence Track List: 1. Daydream 2. New Emotion 3. My Phone is Trying to Kill Me 4. Kelly 5. Can You Do 6. All Mean Nothing 7. 801 8. I Can Break Your Heart Too 9. Lost Angeles 10. In those two years, the band sold out their headline tour, supported 5 Seconds of Summer, and spent countless hours documenting everything in-between in the songs that make up Under My Influence. This isn’t just an album brimming with honesty, it’s an album brimming with trust—trust in themselves, as individuals, as a group, and with their fans. Under My Influence brings fans deeper into The Aces’ world of funk-tinged romance, heartfelt breakups, and relentless positivity—no matter what’s going on. Together, sisters Cristal and Alisa Ramirez (vocals/guitar and drums, respectively), McKenna Petty (bass), and Katie Henderson (lead guitar/vocals)—all friends since grade school—explore growing up and falling in love in the 21st century with candid honesty and endearing relatability. With Under My Influence, The Aces push its sound to more buoyant heights, grounded in learned realities. The Aces dropped their lead single, “Daydream,” in March which, upon release, was added to Spotify’s New Music Friday Playlists in over 18 countries. Additionally, the track has garnered over 6.5 million streams to date. They continued their success with the bittersweet “Lost Angeles” when the single was premiered by Zane Lowe on Beats 1. In releasing two more singles, “My Phone Is Trying To Kill Me” and “Kelly,” prior to their sophomore album’s debut, the four singles have amassed over 9.9 million combined streams to date. Where When My Heart Felt Volcanic left off with the hope of a lover returning, Under My Influence finds The Aces standing tall, cheeky, and fantastically independent. When The Aces were just starting out, their website described the group as “a band of four girls preparing to take over the world.” Well, preparation time is over. With Under My Influence, The Aces have officially entered a full-fledged global takeover. No “Daydreaming” needed. |
