Last night, Tame Impala appeared on Saturday Night Live as the musical guest with Sandra Oh hosting. The band performed the recently released "Patience," as well as a new song "Borderline." The release of "Patience" marked their first new music since his GRAMMY nominated, RIAA Gold-Certified 2015 release, Currents. Parker will headline this year's Coachella Valley Arts and Music Festival. Watch "Patience" here:

Early praise for "Patience"

"Pounding major-seventh piano chords like Todd Rundgren, using conga drums to punch up and punctuate synthesizer arpeggios, and hinting at Michael Jackson in his melodies, he comes to the realization that he’s “growing up in stages/living life in phases.” It’s an honest part of a long-term evolution." - The New York Times

""Patience" kicks off with a languorous bit of piano-house, synth lines imported straight from '80s Italy, a congo roll — perhaps the ones pictured on the album art — and, of course, glimmers of starry-eyed psychedelics. It's immediately infectious. Parker asks, almost coyly, "Has it been that long? Did I count the days wrong?" Yes, Kevin, it's been a while — but when the pay-off is this luxurious, who's counting?" - NPR

"“Patience” takes the sleek studio advances of Currents and leapfrogs further: If that album was where Kevin Parker went from a heady bedroom artist to the kind of songwriter and producer who shows up on a Rihanna album, then “Patience” shows him fully comfortable in his expanded horizons, reaching even further toward the stars."
- Rolling Stone
In addition to Coachella, Tame Impala will headline Shaky Knees Festival in Atlanta, GA (May 5), Corona Capital (May 11), Boston Calling (May 25) and Barcelona's Primavera Festival (May 31), Glastonbury (June 26), Lollapalooza (August 01) and more with festival and headline dates planned throughout 2019. Full tour dates below.

Tame Impala is Kevin Parker. His last album Currents (Interscope) was released in 2015 earning him a second GRAMMY nomination, RIAA Gold-certification and word-wide critical acclaim. The New York Times labeled it a "a tour de force" and Pitchfork said, "nearly every proper song on 'Currents' is a revelatory statement of Parker's range and increasing expertise as a producer, arranger, songwriter, and vocalist while maintaining the essence of Tame Impala." NPR noted, "[Parker] advocates for constant reinvention... That commitment to evolution helps make Tame Impala an unlikely but worthy candidate for major stardom."

Hailing from Perth, Australia, he first toured the U.S. in 2010, playing small clubs for crowds of 200. A handful of trips to the U.S. later and thanks to the ravenous demand of fans for a transcendent live performance, Tame Impala has gone on to headline festivals and theaters around the world and released three full length albums - InnerspeakerLonerism and Currents. As a writer and producer Parker has collaborated with Travis Scott, SZA, Lady Gaga, Mark Ronson, Kanye West, Kali Uchis, Theophilus London, Miguel, A$AP Rocky and more.

What the press are saying about Amanda...

“There’s a promising power inside her which is definitely worth keeping an eye on in the year ahead.” – NME Magazine

“Tenfjord's sharp and confident lyrics match up against skittering handclap beats and bouncing synths to create a glorious pop banger that stands up to anything from the Nordics in the past couple of years.” – The Line Of Best Fit

“This heady mix of hooks and spiky lyrics heralds the Trondheim-based singer as One To Watch.” – Idolator

"Slick pop production” – The Independent

Trondheim based Amanda Tenfjord today shares new single 'The Floor Is Lava' - co-written and produced by Sløtface bassist Lasse Lokøy (Lokoy).

Released 29th March via Propeller Recordings - this is the first new music to be heard since her acclaimed debut EP 'First Impression'. Inspired by the playground-game "The floor is lava" – a game that stands as a solid hallmark of a carefree childhood – it was this feeling which led to the idea behind the new single.

En route to her studio session with Lokøy - Amanda passed some children playing hide and seek; it was that sense of unbridled joy at something so simple (and the distinct lack of worry that comes with being a child) which struck her. "It looked so lovely – that avoiding being 'seen' was seemingly their biggest obstacle in life” she says. "The song is really about being high on life and having a good time without being particularly influenced by other things. Pure ignorant happiness, just like when you were a child!” says Tenfjord.

Originally hailing from a small village in western Norway called Tennfjord (yes, Tenfjord is also her real surname), Amanda is now based in Trondheim - which is becoming something of a mecca for forward-thinking pop artists. The now 22-year-old brings that forward thinking approach to songwriting and collaboration on 'The Floor Is Lava'.

Co-written and produced by Sløtface bassist Lasse Lokøy, his progressive pop production brings the song to life. Speaking on his work with Amanda, Lasse said: "I know Amanda from football training (she's pretty good at football, and I'm pretty bad!). We tried to write the lyrics to resonate with the feeling of freedom when you're a child. It's about the infinite possibilities available to you in your childhood - and wanting to relive, or recreate that in your adult years."

Even though Amanda loves to daydream about a carefree childhood, she's confident that she still has the time of her life ahead. Kicking off 2019 by playing to full houses at Eurosonic, Trondheim Calling and by:Larm – she's currently on tour supporting label-mates Highasakite, culminating in a show at Oslo's Spektrum, in front of 9000 people on March 30th.

The past 12 months have been incredibly exciting for Amanda Tenfjord. Her debut EP 'First Impression' was praised widely by the likes of The Independent, NME, Popjustice, The Line of Best Fit, Idolator, Indie Shuffleand more - as well as being streamed over 2 million times on Spotify.

This year will see her make her debut at The Great Escape, as well as headline showcases in London, and an upcoming appearance at Iceland Airwaves.

'The Floor Is Lava' is out now via Propeller Recordings, released March 29th.

Early praise for The Drums +
Brutalism:

"...deceptively chipper, yet instantly infectious new song, 'Body Chemistry,' finds a rumbling rush of drums anchored by a thick bass groove, over which Drums mastermind Jonny Pierce laces silky guitars and his inviting croon." - Rolling Stone

"'Body Chemistry' modifies their usual indie surf-rock with a funky bassline and electronic flourishes. The vocal melodies lean into a moody cadence a la of Montreal..." - Stereogum

"'Body Chemistry' applies Pierce's bright, prickly pop style to darker nights of the soul, asking whether lingering sadness is inevitable or if it just feels that way." - SPIN

"Featuring a healthy mix of The Drums' much-loved indie-pop spunk and bright new textures, The Drums sound as musically confident and lyrically woeful as ever." - Paste

"It sounds something like a beautiful panic, a pop song about realizing that you may not be able to resolve your flaws - and that's okay." - Consequence of Sound

"It's a hefty thematic struggle from a band known for sunny, beachside celebration-and it works beautifully" - Cool Hunting

The Drums will release its fifth album Brutalism via ANTI- next Friday, April 5th, but starting today the record can be heard in its entirety via NPR First Listen. The follow-up to 2017's "Abysmal Thoughts," which marked the band's first release as a solo project from frontman Jonny Pierce, Brutalism is quite possibly the best collection of songs in the band's ten-year career. Listen to the album now via NPR Music, who say "With Brutalism, The Drums' sound feels bigger than it's ever been." Pre-order Brutalism before it's out next week HERE.
Tomorrow The Drums will perform a stripped-down set for Billboard at 4 PM PT / 7 PM ET. Tune in HERE to watch when it goes live.

The Drums will celebrate the release of Brutalism with a massive North American tour starting next month, including two sold-out intimate release shows in Los Angeles next week. See below to find a show near you, and get your tickets for the upcoming tour HERE.

Like Jonny Pierce, who co-produced the album, Brutalism is a bicoastal record - written and recorded between Upstate New York and a studio in Stinson Beach. Following a painful divorce and an incredibly difficult stint living solely in Los Angeles, Pierce decided it was time to face his demons, and the making of this record is a part of that process. "I was exhausted, depleted and sabotaging myself, partying so much but in reality running away from pain. It was a downward spiral." Pierce knew it was time to go to therapy, and begin to reckon with his depression. "It was do or die," he says. While he focused on his mental health, the making of Brutalism became an extension of self-care for Pierce, and makes for some of his most honest and relatable music to date.

On Brutalism, a lot is different. The album is defined by growth, transformation and questions, but it doesn't provide all the answers. It's rooted in an emotional rawness, but its layers are soft, intricate and warm, full of exquisitely crafted pop songs that blast sunlight and high energy in the face of anxiety, solitude and crippling self-doubt.  Pierce was more open than ever, keeping his control freakery at bay while working with others to produce and record the album. He brought in Chris Coady (Beach House, Future Islands, Amen Dunes) to mix it.  If there was a guitar part he wanted to write but couldn't play, he brought in a guitarist. It's also the first Drums record with a live drummer. Delegating freed up Pierce's time to produce a more specific vision.

The past year has been transformative for Pierce, who may a permanent rain cloud above his head but is working towards a better, healthier headspace. "I don't think I'll ever really find myself," he says. "I don't think people do. I don't think there's a day that you wake up and you go, Now I know who I am. The best way for me to be an artist is by taking a goddamn minute, being still and listening to what it is that I want and need." It was a real year of growth for him, but growth towards what? "I don't really know, and that's OK."

"The last great record of the last millennium" - Q, 2000

"The first vital band of the 21st century" -Pitchfork, 1999

Twenty years ago a band came seemingly out of nowhere to deliver a record that "filled a deep-seated need listeners didn't even know they had" (re: Pitchfork's "Best Albums of the 00s"). The band was Sigur Rós and the record Ágætis byrjun, and to mark its 20th birthday this June, the band will release a definitive box set of this, their breakthrough album. The lavishly packaged, limited edition, seven vinyl album set will include early versions and demos of the songs on the record, as well as never before heard songs that for the first time draw a line back to early influences which would soon become undetectable in the rootless beauty of the finished article.

There is also an immaculate recording of the concert the band played at the Íslenska Óperan (Icelandic Opera House) on June 12, 1999 to celebrate the release of a record that would soon send them around the world on word-of-mouth; a pre-internet phenomenon. Live at Íslenska Óperan 1999 has been painstakingly mixed for the 20th anniversary edition by the band's Kjartan Sveinsson with Birgir Birgisson, who made the original recording of the event. The 90-minute show has not been heard in full since it was broadcast live on RAS 2 radio all those years ago. In a note of poignancy, the show at the Íslenska Óperan would be the last original drummer Águst Gunnarsson would play with his fellow bandmates, vocalist/guitarist Jón Thor Birgisson, bassist Georg Holm and keyboard player Kjartan Sveinsson, who himself had only officially joined the band the year before.

The Demos & Rarities and early live recordings, which stretch across six sides of vinyl, have been pulled together from the band's own personal archive and include many recordings they had forgotten existed. They ended up trawling through every cassette, DAT and other defunct audio storage system to unearth parallel versions of no fewer than eight of the nine songs on Ágætis byrjun*. Together these form a remarkable store of abandoned ideas, blind alleys, and could-have-beens.

Across the first two LPs of Demos & Rarities there are guide vocal versions of "Svefn-g-englar" and "Ágætis byrjun", an original speed version of "Staralfur", "Vidrar vel til loftarasa" with alternative massively extended string-laden ending, "Olsen Olsen" with an oboe; each a snapshot of a band trying things out and about to find their feet in a spectacular way. The third album of Demos & Rarities goes into the uncharted waters of early demos for the record, with songs so nascent that they don't yet have titles. Hugmynd 1, 2 and 3 reveal surprising, previously unseen facets of the band's development. Alongside these and the early b-side "Rafmagnið búið", is the long sought after "Debata Mandire", on which Jónsi and Kjartan duet in keening falsettos, before, as Kjartan says in the extensive sleeve notes, his "bad habits" robbed him of the ability to sing that high. In some cases the only source of this material might be a single, unlabelled cassette and, as a result, glitches need to be taken as part of the patina of age.

The deluxe vinyl box set also comes with an 84-page cloth-bound book, featuring a plethora of visual content drawn from the Sigur Rós archive (aka an overstuffed case in Kjartan's studio). Handwritten string arrangements, lost artwork ideas and early 'business cards', are seen alongside candid images of the band at the moment just before their lives changed. The whole is housed in an elegant linen-bound box, available exclusively thru the band's website www.sigurros.com. The first 1999 copies will be numbered. All the musical content available in the deluxe vinyl edition is mirrored in the expanded 4 x CD edition, and is included in the double vinyl version as a download code. The 4xCD and 2xLP will be available in all good record stores from June 21, 2019.
