Tim Presley (White Fence) Announces Solo Debut, The Wink, Out on Sept 16th!

PRESLEY COMES ALIVE!

THE WiNK OUT ON SEPTEMBER 16TH!
On the cover, a bare chest and bits of bodies sketched in jagged lines of black and white. Inside, in full calor, we find Tim Presley. The dark force behind White Fence steps into the solo light with The WiNK.

Tim's a man in a glass booth, grabbing at scraps of paper blown at his windscreen as if they were of the greatest value. They're actually of the ONLY value. The Presley guitar hand has a powerful, yet quicksilver touch, with metallic brilliance ALWAYS, esp. in rhythm figurations, where it wrings chords out like panic signals, highlighted on "Clue" where a smooth and steadfast lyric melody is supplanted by a throw of broken guitar and shards of keys and drum beats. The tension is unbreakable, a thin plastic slip, as he intones upon a maze of high wild mercury stings.

The WiNK is produced by Cate Le Bon, who does the impregnable work of bringing a Tim Presley solo statement into focus somehow from without, by leading Tim the long away around to make a portrait of him. Cate fully embodied the producer role, picking the songs for the album from a deep pile of demos, making arrangements for the chosen songs and steadfastly suggesting that the trusted team go off the beaten path in their execution. Alert to the scribble from which Tim's songs emerge in best home-recorded intimacyCate's studio production teases such details out without losing any of the cerebral splatter - deconstructing and rebuilding the songs with a tight-knit crew (comprised of drummer Stella Mogzawa, and engineer Samur Khouja) whose shared language lifts Tim's sound from the deep blue to create a different, stranger, authentic result.

The pop pusher of this teenage century is ready to slip behind the (White) Fence to claim his own name; be there when he does on September 16th!

The Mystery Lights Share "Melt" Video Via Nerdist | Debut LP Out Now On Wick Records

THE MYSTERY LIGHTS SHARE "MELT" VIDEO VIA NERDIST

DEBUT LP OUT NOW ON WICK (DAPTONE RECORDS)

WATCH & SHARE: The Mystery Lights - "Melt"
"The Mystery Lights have developed a sound redolent of ‘60s garage rock, complete with jangly guitars, surfy basslines, and soda-bottled angst." - Nerdist
Today, the Mystery Lights share, via Nerdist, the video for the track "Melt" from their debut self-titled LP. The video was shot in The Vinyl Revolution record story in Monterey, CA, where the owner of the shop plays the protagonist who becomes enthralled and tormented by a possessed record. The footage is supplemented by fuzzy graphics, which complement the psychedelic undertones of the song.

Earlier this month, NPR's David Dye featured two tracks from the Mystery Lights' debut LP on his'World Cafe: Next' weekly segment. He praised the band who "combine the aesthetic of [New York]'s downtown dwellers (like The Velvet Underground) with a present-day urgency."

Pitchfork also shared their love for the Lights' sound," saying that "there's a stoned, analog atmosphere hanging over everything, but there's a fire and toughness, too. [Mike] Brandon, like Charles Bradley and Sharon Jones before him, performs with a power and vigor that keeps him undeniable."

Their “In The Studio with The Mystery Lights” video takes a behind-the-scenes look at what took place at Daptone's House of Soul Studio as the band worked to create Wick's inaugural release and what is now a record that deserves to be raved about.

The band is currently on tour across the States, opening for Night Beats for the first half of their dates and headlining the remainder.

"'Puberty 2' is purple like a new bruise . . . There's more variety in her singing, which moves from aggrieved to sultry to resigned. And there's more ambition in the music, which doubles down on grit while also rounding things out with a buffer of soul." - The New York Times

"These 11 tracks creep up on you, as her coiled melodies suddenly explode into cavernous freak-outs or build to a crescendo of unbearable catharsis." - NPR Music

"No one else can make shattering sound like such an act of strength." - Stereogum

Anticipation is a key component of happiness. The not-yet-having of something only strengthens your resolve to hold out a little longer, to make space for it in your life. Well here we are, the day's finally arrived. Mitski's debut record for Dead Oceans, Puberty 2, is out worldwide today.

It's already being heralded as one of the best albums of the year thus far by Stereogum (#3) and Brooklyn Magazine (#1). With the likes of The New YorkerNPR Music, and Dazed joining the well-deserved chorus of praise. Not to mention, last Sunday's The New York Times went deep on the album.

Puberty 2 is an indelible collection of songs crafted thoughtfully from memories and details (whose size & importance shift depending on the eye of the beholder). These are important pieces of writing that process being alive and being in love - or just being at all. We are so proud to be able to share this in full with you today.

Below you'll find links to stream and purchase Puberty 2. You'll also see that Mitski is about to embark on an extensive worldwide tour. Odds are she's coming to your city! We've also included some rad conversations she's had of late about Puberty 2, recording, life in New York & more. Dig in!

Mick Harvey Reveals "Deadly Tedium" Video, Album Out Now

MICK HARVEY
REVEALS VIDEO FOR
“DEADLY TEDIUM”

VOLUME 3 OF SERGE GAINSBOURG
TRANSLATED COVER VERSIONS

DELIRIUM TREMENS
OUT NOW

Mick Harvey has unveiled the video for “Deadly Tedium,” his translation of Serge Gainsbourg’s “Ce Mortel Ennui.” “Deadly Tedium” is taken from Mick Harvey’s latest album of Serge Gainsbourg translations, Delirium Tremens, out now on Mute.

Says Mick Harvey, “The song ‘Deadly Tedium’ (Ce Mortel Ennui) was always on my radar as a possibility to translate. Being a kind of “anti” love song it’s typical of the more perverse aspects of Gainsbourg’s writing and atypical of songs about the breakdown of love and relationships and is loaded with dry, black humour.”

Watch the video, directed by Lyndelle-Jayne Spruyt, HERE.

Delirium Tremens is the third volume of Mick Harvey’s Serge Gainsbourg translations and follows the recent reissue of the first two volumes - Intoxicated Man and Pink Elephants - as a double album in 2014. Following the reissue, Harvey began playing select shows in Australia and Europe (including shows at Primavera and London’s Union Chapel) and the enjoyment factor was so high it led inevitably to speculative discussions as to whether it was time to resume and expand the project.

Delirium Tremens brings us another wide cross-section of Gainsbourg material. From 1976’s “The Man With The Cabbage Head” (L’homme à Tête De Chou) all the way back to early songs such as “Deadly Tedium” (Ce Mortel Ennui) and “Coffee Colour” (Couleur Cafe) from the late 50s and early 60s. There is even a version of “SS C'est Bon” (Est-ce Est-ce Si Bon), from Gainsbourg’s controversial album Rock Around The Bunker, an album drenched in black humor and bad taste, coming as it does from a French man with Jewish ancestry.
In addition, Harvey presents a selection of five songs from the TV special “Anna” (starring Anna Karina) – including “Don't Say A Thing” (Ne Dis Rien) - with the female parts here executed with enormous charm by Xanthe Waite who has been joining Harvey on his recent shows. The album is rounded out by a beautiful rendering of the late period Jane Birkin duet “The Decadance” (La Décadanse) with Harvey joined on vocals by his wife Katy Beale.

Work began in late 2015 on what will be Volumes 3 and 4. Recording in Melbourne with his Antipodean-based core live band, 10 songs were tracked at Birdland Studios. The project then relocated to Berlin where a further nine songs were recorded with Toby Dammit (The Stooges, The Residents) and Bertrand Burgalat (of French label Tricatel) who was the string arranger on the first two volumes.

The resultant recordings served to whet Harvey’s appetite for more and almost immediately work continued back in Melbourne in order to have enough material to fill two new volumes. Along with Melbourne based musicians J.P.Shilo, Glenn Lewis and Hugo Cran, Harvey has enlisted a half dozen female singers to help complete Volume 4 which will be released as Intoxicated Women later in 2016.

LISTEN & SHARE: Breanna Barbara - "Nothin But Your Lovin"

Today, BULLETT premieres Breanna Barbara's live video for "Nothin But Your Lovin." They praised her saying that she's not your typical cute indie chick, "This girl has got pipes, not to mention the unabashed soulfulness of the blues musicians of days past."

The singer-songwriter’s forthcoming Mirage Dreams LP introduces a bold new voice steeped in occult blues (think of it as a Southern Gothic fusion of blues and psychedelia), with songs about losing a parent to an overdose and a New York of empty clubs and sweaty, unairconditioned lofts but also about falling in love and finding an artistic voice.

Recorded and produced by Andrija Tokic (Alabama Shakes, Hurray for the Riff Raff) at The Bomb Shelter in East Nashville over two weeks in the winter of 2014, the album features Ben Trimble of Fly Golden Eagle (backing vocals, keys); Jem Cohen of The Ettes (backing vocals); Matt Menold (lead guitar, organ), Charles Garmendia (drums), and Eduardo DuQuesne (bass) of Clear Plastic Masks; Jon Etes (upright bass, pedal steel, keys); and David Grant (drums, percussion).

Breanna, who’d self-released two albums (Theoria and Baby Where You Are) on Bandcamp, sent her “funny little iPhone recordings” to Andrija, who invited her to come down to Nashville. She packed her guitar and drove down in the van she slept in some nights: “Every morning we'd meet around 10, drink coffee, listen to the acoustic demos I sent him, and brainstorm how we wanted the song to turn out. Then we'd go into the studio and do a few takes,” recalls Breanna. “I had literally never recorded with more than my iPhone or computer, so going from that to working with someone who has platinum records on his bathroom floor was pretty surreal.”

Breanna was born in Edina, Minnesota and raised in Bradenton, Florida. She began writing and performing songs at house shows and bars in St. Augustine, FL, and traveled around the north and southeast before settling in New York City. She has shared bills with Deap Vally, Yak, and The Mystery Lights, with upcoming concerts opening for Deer Tick, Margo Price, Wild Beasts, and Bo Ningen.

Mirage Dreams comes out on July 22, 2016, the first release from new NYC boutique label No Roads Records.

BORIS - Pink (Deluxe Edition): 10th anniversary reissue w/ 9 unreleased songs from original 'Pink' sessions

BORIS - Pink (Deluxe Edition)
10th Anniversary reissue of landmark album featuring 9 unreleased songs

Hear & share "Are You Ready?" (Soundcloud) & "SOFUN" (Soundcloud)

Japanese trio Boris premiere an unreleased track from the 10th anniversary deluxe reissue of Pinktoday via NPR. Hear and share "SOFUN" HERE. (Direct Soundcloud).

Boris will launch a full North American headlining tour in July in which they will perform Pink in its entirety. The band's new Sargent House labelmates Earth will play all dates except two in Canada. Please see complete dates below.

Pitchfork previously announced the deluxe edition release with the premiere of "Are You Ready?"HERE. (Soundcloud).

Pink, the landmark 2006 album by Boris, which earned widespread critical praise -- including Pitchfork's Top 10 Albums of 2006 -- will be reissued in a deluxe edition this summer to commemorate the album's 10th anniversary.

The deluxe 3xLP box set and 2xCD features an entire album of previously unreleased tracks recorded during the Pink album sessions in 2004-2005. The bonus Forbidden Songs collects 9 tracks of the same hyperactive, accessible and aggressive caliber of the original album, available here for the first time, mixed (with additional editing and arrangement) in 2015 and mastered in January 2016. Like the original U.S. vinyl release, the Pink (Deluxe Edition) LP set has three longer edits of songs that were truncated on the original CD issue ("Farewell", "Pseudo-Bread" and "My Machine"). Otherwise, both the LP and CD versions have the same audio as the 2006 release. And, Pink (Deluxe Edition) also features the artwork of the original Japanese release, made by the band members themselves.

In 2006, Pink was Boris' 10th album and a major breakthrough that earned new fans outside of the underground metal community -- the track "Farewell" was even featured in Jim Jarmusch's classic filmThe Limits of Control. The album landed on countless "best of the year" lists from underground metal sites to mainstream rock magazines. And the praise was certainly well deserved for its more accessible sound and explorations into shoegaze and ambient structures alongside brutal noise, searing psychedelia and apocalyptic doom.

Pink succeeds at what most bands cannot do: swiftly changing styles from song to song, while always sounding distinctly like themselves. The seamless, explosive set of fan favorites from the classic longtime lineup of drummer/vocalist Atsuo, guitarist/vocalist Wata and bassist/guitarist/vocalist Takeshi still sounds as mindblowing as it did a decade ago. And, Forbidden Songs continues with the same unbridled creativity and ferocity. These songs aren't outliers, they're rather more like the director's cut version of the original album.

Boris is now in their 24th year as a band -- 20 years in the classic trio lineup -- and showing no signs of slowing down. They have always demolished expectations of what a band can do musically and aesthetically. And in looking back with Pink (Deluxe Edition), the band's trajectory as experimenters and innovators over subsequent releases becomes even clearer.

Pink (Deluxe Edition) will be available everywhere (excluding Japan) on July 8th on 3xLP box set, 2xCD and download via Sargent House. iTunes pre-orders include a free immediate download of "Are You Ready?" HERE, 3xLP box set and 2xCD are available for pre-order via Hello Merch

Stella Mozgawa of Warpaint

"It's very hard to find a festival where commerce takes a back seat to art, as it should, but Desert Daze is a breath of fresh air. A rare autonomous zone, unlike any contemporary festival setting I've been in." - Ben Chisholm (Chelsea Wolfe)

"Desert Daze is a throwback to the days before music festivals became mainstream"

Diet Cig Confirm Summer And Fall Tour Dates. Includes Riot Festival in Denver and Austin's Sound On Sound Fest!

DIET CIG CONTINUE NON-STOP TOUR WITH ADDITION OF MORE DATES THIS SUMMER AND FALL!

CONFIRMED FOR DENVER'S RIOT FEST AND AUSTIN'S SOUND ON SOUND FESTIVAL

DEBUT ALBUM COMING 2017

Though Diet Cig now call Brooklyn, NY home its a fair bet to say that since March of this year they have spent more time in a tour van than Brooklyn.  That trend shows no sign of slowing down as the band continues to book additional shows across the US.  Today they announce additions to the tour schedule with the new round of dates kicking off July 9 inColumbusOH and concluding (for now) at Austin's Sound on Sound Festival inNovember.  In addition to that festival they will also be performing at Atlanta's Wrecking Ball Festival in August,  and in September Riot Fest in DenverCOHopscotch inRaleighNC and Pop Montreal.  Headline shows are on the schedule for, among other cities, TorontoBrooklyn and Washington, DC. The full tour is listed below!

Diet Cig is Alex Luciano (guitar) and Noah Bowman (drums) and the duo have made a big statement out of five highly infectious pop songs released last year via their EP Over Easy.  While recalling the sound of speedy twee-pop groups like Tiger Trap and All Girl Summer Fun Band, the record explores "the innocence of adolescence and infatuation." With Bowman's crashing drum kit offering stationary support, Luciano becomes an onstage tornado as lines between band and audience blur into a massive dance party.  Check out the EP's epic singalong "Harvard."

After garnering attention from the likes of PitchforkRolling Stone, Stereogum, and Spin, Diet Cig returned with the seven-inch, "Sleep Talk / Dinner Date." "Sleep Talk" begins where Over Easy left off, with the candidly self-analytical statement, "I can't play instruments very well and I'll eat all of your cereal." While this line may feel lighthearted, the narrative quickly grows complicated with the gentle admission, "If I told you I loved you I don't know who it would scare away faster." "Dinner Date" continues the theme of painful retrospection and vulnerability as Luciano examines familial disappointment. Both songs offer a more complex level of intimacy and prove that Diet Cig are here to stay.

Both the EP and the singles were recorded with Christopher Daly at Salvation Recording Company in New Paltz, NY and mastered by Jamal Ruhe at West West Side Music.

"This New York-based garage punk duo knows how to pack maximum wallop into small bundles-both in terms of their music and their outstanding, pint-size frontwoman, Alex Luciano." - Paste

"duo whose live show is uninhibited and inspiring." - Consequence of Sound

"...guitarist-vocalist Alex Luciano made sure all eyes were on her. Jumping across the stage whenever she wasn't singing, and tossing out high kicks that would put Robert Pollard to shame, Luciano put on a joyously fun performance during the band's short set." - AV Club
