“Brooklyn punks exude their exceptional brashness.” – Consequence of Sound

“ It’d leave you breathless if you weren’t humming along.” - NPR

Brooklyn based garage rock trio Sharkmuffin is made up of Tarra Theissen (vocals/guitar) and Natalie Kirch (vocals/bass).  Together, they create super-heavy, jagged, and exceedingly catchy punk rock, which Consequence of Sound states, “As their name implies, this is a vicious band with plenty of teeth.” Their debut full-length album,Chartreuse, will be released next week on August 7 via State Capital/Little Dickman Records. However, you can stream the album now on Consequence of Sound

The album features drumming from Patty Schemel (Upset, Death Valley Girls, Hole) and marks a whole new era in their style of music. The noise-punk-meets-psychedelic power pop group has evolved their sound on the new album, and the result is a full length filled with commanding hits.
Be sure to check out Sharkmuffin on tour this summer!

Pearl Charles shares new video + releases Burger Records EP

PEARL CHARLES SHARES VIDEO FOR "YOU CAN CHANGE" VIA NOISEY

PLAYING AYATANA, BURGER A GO GO AND DESERT STARS FESTIVALS

PEARL CHARLES OUT NOW VIA BURGER RECORDS

WATCH: "You Can Change" -  https://youtu.be/TFeixNSSyJI

PURCHASE: Pearl Charles EP - https://pearlcharlesmusic.bandcamp.com/

To coincide with this week's release of her self-titled debut EP for Burger Records, Los Angeles' Pearl Charles is back to share the video for its lead single "You Can Change." The video finds Pearl, the Fader-described "s moky-voiced sweetheart," front and center. The Angelo Izzo-directed clip is suitably psychedelic for the song's Laurel Canyon-indebted sound.

Speaking about the video, Pearl said that it is, "almost like a moving photograph, layering slowly changing images of myself over faster changing images of nature. These layers are reflective of the constant change all around us, but also the lack of mobility that is felt in the lyrics. Angela Izzo shot everything in-camera to capture a realistic portrait of myself in a surrealistic psychedelic scene."

Watch the video above now and see below for all upcoming Pearl Charles tour dates.

About Pearl Charles:

At the young age of 23, Pearl Charles already has deep roots in the Los Angeles music community. An LA Native, Pearl embodied California rock and roll cool even before she took her natural position as a figure in the local music scene (and beyond). Pearl started logging miles on the road with her first band, oldtimey Americana duo The Driftwood Singers, at age 18, followed by a lengthy stint drumming and singing in garage-pop band The Blank Tapes. The Blank Tapes toured extensively and earned accolades from Rolling Stone and The New Yorker for their sunny lo-fi surf rock. Along the way, Pearl collaborated with artists such as Jonathan Wilson, Stephen McBean (Black Mountain), Farmer Dave Scher (Beachwood Sparks) and Johnathan Rice, as well as toured extensively internationally, supporting diverse artists such as Father John Misty, Matt Costa, Thee Oh Sees, Kim Deal, The Growlers, Allah Las and Mystic Braves. Despite all of this, she managed to find time to earn a BFA in Music from CalArts.

Embarking on a solo career in 2015, Pearl is set to solidify her own name and place by releasing a 6 song debut EP on Burger Records this summer. Pearl recorded her self-titled EP track by track with a select group of producers and a little help from her friends, many of whom are notable LA musicians in their own right, including Joel Jerome (La Sera, Cherry Glazerr) and Taylor Locke (Rooney). Though she draws inspiration from the legendary scenes of the 60's and 70's, from Laurel Canyon to The Factory, from Haight- Ashbury to Muscle Shoals, she also counts contemporary artists such as Tame Impala, Mac DeMarco, Sharon Van Etten and Jenny Lewis as influences. Pearl Charles writes and sings songs with a distinctly unique voice, creating a sound that is both timeless yet undeniably here, now.

Ibeyi debut brand new song "Exhibit Diaz" | Extend worldwide tour

IBEYI
ANNOUNCE BRAND NEW SONG ‘EXHIBIT DIAZ
EXTEND WORLDWIDE TOUR

Recently named by NPR as one of their ’25 Favorite Albums of 2015 + NPR named Ibeyi one of their ‘Favorite Artists of 2015.’'

Since releasing their debut album in February of this year, it has been well documented that the Ibeyitwin-sisters Naomi and Lisa-Kainde Diaz are dedicated fans of hip-hop. Today they release their unique interpretation of the cult Jay Electronica track "Better In Tune With The Infinite (Bibo No Aozora)" which they have named "Exhibit Diaz".

Since hearing the original version of Jay Electronica’s never released track (that draws upon a haunting piano sample by composer Ryuichi Sakamoto) the sisters immediately went away and learnt every lyric, turned Jay’s rapping into a sung vocal line and worked it into their very next live show – where it has remained ever since and subsequently became a fan favourite.

"Exhibit Diaz" was produced by Richard Russell at his Residence La Revolution studio, London, in July 2015.

Meanwhile, Ibeyi continue to take their critically acclaimed live shows to every corner of the globe, from The Park Stage at Glastonbury to the Summerstage in Central Park New York and everywhere in between. Today they announce an extension to the world tour. See full details below:

DRINKS - Hermits on Holiday

DRINKS - Hermits on Holiday

Street Date, August 21st, 2015, Birth Records

"Tim, do I like that dog?" A strange question, a queer query, an odd ask. The answer surely already known unless one mind knows the other. Which would appear to be the case with Cate and Tim. With Tim and Cate.

Cate, born in West Wales, raised under the shadow of a woolen mill, dressed by the field and by the rain. Tim, from San Francisco, grew under and over the bridges and streets, combed by corners and by concrete.

A more different musical upbringing you couldn't dream up. One a black thread strung through the eye of American hardcore, she a shard of glass tapped through a solid wall. Loop the thread around the shard and you have pendular device for predicting the sex. Will it be a boy or a girl?

They both like to drink, coffee mostly and sometimes each other. And once the drinks are drunk out it comes. The mud slicks and the plates click.

DRINKS is a solo project, not a collaboration. It has one mouth, one set of lungs, one mind and four legs.

DRINKS are the sound of hermits on holiday, having the time of each others lives.

DRINKS will be playing a number of festivals and headline shows in early September. Upcoming UK live dates below:

Albert Hammond Jr. Performs On "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" On August 3, New Solo Album Streaming Now On Pitchfork

ALBERT HAMMOND JR. PERFORMS ON "THE TONIGHT SHOW STARRING JIMMY FALLON" ON MONDAY, AUGUST 3

MOMENTARY MASTERS, HIS NEW SOLO ALBUM, IS STREAMING NOW ON PITCHFORK

UPCOMING TOUR INCLUDES PERFORMANCES AT LOLLAPALOOZA AND AUSTIN CITY LIMITS FESTIVAL

Los Angeles, CA - July 27, 2015  - Albert Hammond Jr. will perform on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" on Monday, August 3. His new solo album, Momentary Masters, is streaming exclusively onPitchfork in the days leading up to its July 31 release on Vagrant Records. Listen to the album in its entirety HERE Fans who pre-order Momentary Masters digitally will instantly receive the lead single, "Losing Touch," plus "Born Slippy" and "Side Boob."

Hammond Jr. will be touring extensively in support of Momentary Masters. He will perform at Lollapalooza next Sunday, August 2, and during both weekends of the 2015 Austin City Limits Festival. On September 9, he'll kick off a North American headline tour at Brillobox in Pittsburgh, PA. The run will include shows at New York City's Bowery Ballroom (September 21 and 22) and at Teragram Ballroom in Los Angeles (October 14). See below for itinerary.

Momentary Masters - which takes its title from a passage in astronomer Carl Sagan's influential bookPale Blue Dot: A Vision of the Human Future in Space that reflects on earth's small place in the cosmic arena - was recorded at Oneway Studios, a converted barn at Hammond Jr.'s upstate New York home. Produced by GRAMMY®-winning producer Gus Oberg, whom he had become close friends with during sessions for The Strokes' Angles and Comedown Machine, Momentary Masters is the first album to feature Hammond Jr.'s touring band: guitarist Hammarsing Kharhmar, guitarist Mikey Hart, bassist Jordan Brooks and drummer Jeremy Gustin.

Momentary Masters is a record about finding a new curiosity in life as a result of the loss of innocence that knowledge and time create. The music might be largely buoyant-spry, breezy guitar lines locking together and dancing apart - but melancholy frequently seeps into even the sunniest of toplines. It's a record of acceptance, too.

"You know how you hang out with someone and there's things you wouldn't tell people? You portray that one side which you find to be most attractive, but eventually, if you become close enough, you reveal another side," explains Hammond Jr. "Most people want to push that away and pretend it doesn't exist. As good a person as you are, there is also darkness, and if you don't believe that, you're just lying to yourself. To be complete, you need to integrate that into your life and accept it as a whole."

The official video for the album's first single, "Losing Touch," begins with dialogue from a classic Ingmar Bergman film, The Seventh Seal, and follows Hammond Jr. as he tries to elude the Grim Reaper. The clip, which was directed by Laurent Briet (Radiohead, Death Cab for Cutie) during a two-day trip to Morocco, can be viewed HERE.

"Hammond's made another uplifting pop song that makes me feel like I'm back in high school," saidStereogum. "[Losing Touch]" is classic Strokes (and, as a result, Hammond), complete with a chorus heavy on the vocal distortion," observed Entertainment WeeklySPIN noted that the song has "the sort of soaring chorus that marks many of his best solo songs" and praised its "neon-lit guitar lines."
"On 'Born Slippy,' the bouncy interplay of the guitars and Hammond, Jr.'s passionate singing recall Television's work on Marquee Moon," said Rolling Stone"He's cleaned up, gotten hitched, and moved from the city to upstate New York, but hasn't lost the ability to create soaring rock riffs and catchy hooks," observed Paper Magazine.

Hammond Jr. spoke at length with Stereogum about the album for this recent feature and tackled PopMatters'20 Questions - on everything from time travel and creative inspirations to stress management and Armani vs. Levis - in this Q&A.
