UK press on Sleaford Mods

“…some of the best music being made in England right now is happening from artists creating a lurid, living portrait of a country that’s not right in its head… Nobody is doing it as explicitly as this duo though, and frankly it’s a pleasure to for once hear music that’s made with such bile, such attack.”  -NME

“Sleaford Mods sound like nothing else. Best Band in the land. It’s that simple” – The Quietus

“It isn’t always the role of political music to come up with solutions. But nothing could be more urgent than the questions Sleaford Mods pose.” – The Wire

“Like Happy Mondays, the Fall and William Blake, Sleaford Mods are English visionary ranters…” – The Sunday Times

NEIL YOUNG RELEASES NEW SONG "WHO'S GONNA STAND UP?"

NEIL YOUNG RELEASES NEW SONG "WHO'S GONNA STAND UP?"
FROM UPCOMING STUDIO ALBUM STOREYTONE
September 25, 2014 - (Burbank, CA.) - As previously reported, Neil Young has released a brand new studio recording titled, "Who's Gonna Stand Up?," via NeilYoung.com.

The new song is featured on Young's upcoming album, STOREYTONE, which will be released this November. Details to be revealed soon. The song was originally performed at a Crazy Horse shows U.K. this summer and more recently part of Young's solo acoustic set at Farm Aid this past Sept 13th, at Walnut Creek Amphitheater in Raleigh North Carolina. The audience did indeed stand up and sing along in unison in support of the song's plea to end our dependence of fossil fuels and realize our responsibility to protect our earth's fragile eco systems to ensure the quality of life for future generations. To learn more visit: http://www.neilyoung.com/news/

Young also recorded the track backed by a 92-piece symphony and choir. Live, orchestral and solo acoustic versions of "Who's Gonna Stand Up?" are all available via NeilYoung.com. Young encourages you to post and share "Who's Gonna Stand Up?" now. Three versions to choose from:

Live version with Crazy Horse:

Orchestral version:

Solo Acoustic version:
https://soundcloud.com/warnerbrosrecords/neil-young-whos-gonna-stand-up-acoustic

"I'd like to make a record with a full-blown orchestra, live -- a mono recording with one mic. I want to do something like that where we really record what happened, with one point of view and the musicians moved closer and farther away, the way it was done in the past. To me that's a challenge and it's a sound that's unbelievable, and you can't get it any other way," Neil told Billboard in March.

More information to be announced soon. Until then, please enjoy "Who's Gonna Stand Up?" Lyrics are below:

TIJUANA PANTHERS SHARE MUSIC VIDEO FOR "MONEY JAR"

ANNOUNCE NOVEMBER TOUR DATES

WAYNE INTEREST OUT NOW VIA INNOVATIVE LEISURE

After releasing their third album, Wayne Interest, via Innovative Leisure in June and heading out on a European tour and a West Coast run with Fucked UP, Tijuana Panthers are back today to share new November tour dates supporting Mariachi El Bronx. The band is also excited to announce that they will be playing Beach Goth Festival on 10/25 in Santa Ana. To coincide with the new tour announcement, the band is sharing their video for album standout, "Money Jar." The video was shot and directed by the band's Phil Shaheen.

Since 2010 their debut, Max Baker, the Panthers have steadily become SoCal underground legends playing both packed backyard parties and sold out concert halls along the way. For their forthcoming album, Tijuana Panthers collaborated with producer Richard Swift (The Shins, Foxygen). Wayne Interest is available now via Innovative Leisure. Check out the tour dates and the new video out below.

About Tijuana Panthers and Wayne Interest:

Live and on record, the Tijuana Panthers are a great band. You could say garage, punk or surf while describing their sound, but they're harder to pin than that. The truth is that they write classic songs that don't depend on tropes from any genre. They craft perfect pop and deliver it with energy and immediacy. However, the real magic of this band is in their weirdness.

Behind their picturesque portraits of daily life is an aching despair. This subtle contrast creates an eerie tension between the ideal, the real and the surreal. You suddenly realize they're not the happy-go-lucky beach boys you tried to pin them as, but more akin to sexually frustrated soda jerks in a David Lynch film. And this all makes sense with the fact that they come from Southern California's shadier city of Long Beach, not exactly the fun in the sun that California dream- ers might expect.

For Wayne Interest, the Panthers team up with producer Richard Swift. The recordings took place at Swift's studio in Oregon where the band decidedly took risks in performance and production. The risks paid off. With Swift's direction and upgrade in fidelity, Wayne Interest sounds just as compelling in headphones as it would at a house party in East LA. It also gives the listener a closer look at the idiosyncrasies of the Tijuana Panthers, only making it clearer that there's something off about these creeps. Their weirdness, or bold- ness to be whoever they may be, is what makes this band great. It's a rare quality. The more you listen to the Tijuana Panthers the more you wonder about them.

Pixies announce video for 'Ring The Bell'

PIXIES
PREMIERES "RING THE BELL" VIDEO VIA NME.COM
+ ENLISTS BUDDING DIRECTORIAL DUO. WATCH IT HERE
Pair's 2005 Home Video Clip of Pixies Classic "Hey"
Amasses 34-million YouTube Views
When Lital Mizel and Adi Frimmerman filmed a sleepover in Mizel's bedroom back in 2005, lip-syncing and dancing to the Pixies' song "Hey" as a birthday present for Frimmerman's boyfriend, the two had no idea the clip would go viral to the tune of 34-million YouTube views (as of 9/2014) or catapult the two promising filmmakers to internet cult status.  Nor, when the two attended the Pixies' show in Israel this past June and went backstage afterwards to meet them, did they ever dream a half-joke of offering their services to make another video clip for the band would be met with a green light.
But both incidents happened.  Conceived and directed by Mizel and Frimmerman, the brand new music video for "Ring The Bell," from Indie Cindy (Pixiesmusic), Pixies' first new album in more than 20 years, is available today and can be seen here.
The clip follows two girls (Mizel and Frimmerman) traveling with a supermarket cart, collecting discarded items from the streets.  With this "junk" they arrive at their sanctuary in the woods where their "Generation-Y" friends gather to celebrate a kinder, happier, but faded-away world of PacMan, boomboxes, plastic charm bracelets, VHS tapes and cassettes, Care Bears, record players, roller skates, cornrows, mirror balls, round sunglasses and bubble blowers, now replaced by a 24/7, plugged-in mentality.
Explained Mizel, "The way we see it, the song is about that moment of ending, where you look back and long for those moments in a time and place that will soon fade away."
"We were born in the eighties and grew up during a time of rapid technology changes," Frimmerman added.  "We got the idea to make a clip about our nostalgic longing for the things that had been replaced and the childhood memories that were attached to them.  We also felt connected to the 'Generation-Y' characterization of those eighties-nineties lost kids who hold on to their memories of the past in a fast-changing, anxiety-filled world."
"Ring The Bell" will be serviced to commercial and non-comm AAA radio on September 16.  Earlier this year, Pixies' album Indie Cindy entered the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart at #23, also holding the #1 spot on FMQB's SubModern Albums Charts for three weeks.  Their track "Greens and Blues" was #1FMQB's SubModern Singles chart for two weeks.

NORTH AMERICA TOUR WITH THE DRUMS KICKS OFF NEXT WEEK!

Beverly gives us one last taste of summer in a water park takeover with the new video for "All The Things" directed by Stephanie Szerlip and Maia Stern.  Nylon dosed it "a song that pretty much begs to be blasted from your car windows immediately."   Beverly kick off their first North American tour with The Drums next week in Philly to support their recent and critically acclaimed debut album, Careers (out now via Kanine Records).  To transport the record live, Drew Citron is currently joined by Jamie Ingalls (Chairlift) on Drums, Scott Rosenthal (The Beets) on bass, and Caitlin Frame (FRAME) on guitar and synth.

Beverly began as a recording project between Drew Citron and Frankie Rose.  During numerous tours, the two started collaborating and sharing aspirations for making simple, clutter-free music.  Their debut LP, Careers is a result of those ideas - a seemingly effortless album that combines raw pop, post-punk, and dreamy harmonies; drawing inspiration from lo-fi greats such as Mazzy Star, The Amps and The Clean.

Wampire shares new single + announces headlining tour

WAMPIRE SHARES NEW SINGLE VIA ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY

ANNOUNCES HEADLINING TOUR

BAZAAR DUE OCTOBER 7TH VIA POLYVINYL

Wampire photo by Andy De Santis

After recently announcing their sophomore LP Bazaar and sharing its first single ("Wizard Staff"), Portland's Wampire is back today to share their new single "The Amazing Heart Attack." Its release comes in conjunction with the announcement that after their upcoming tour with Temples, the band will embark on their first headlining tour, supported by Montreal's TOPS. Check out the new single, all upcoming tour dates and more about the band below.

More about Wampire:

Following the release of their debut album Curiosity in 2013, Wampire went from a duo most accustomed to playing house parties around their hometown of Portland to a five-piece band performing in venues all over the world with groups such as Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Foxygen, and Smith Westerns.

That 12-month span saw Wampire play more shows in more cities, countries, and continents than in all their previous years together combined -- a nearly non-stop barrage of new and memorable experiences that, above all else, forced the band members to become more fully immersed in music than at any other time in their lives.

As a result, when founding members and primary songwriters Rocky Tinder and Eric Phipps returned home at the tail end of the year, they immediately dove into the process of working on a new album in order to capitalize on the creative energy that had been steadily amassing during their days, weeks, and months on the road.

Says Phipps of that moment in time, "I holed up in a tiny room within a friend's warehouse and began knocking out as many different songs as I could. I tried not to look back, just wanting to explore everything I could possibly create. I started to feel like I was becoming a Kafka-esque insomniac musical novelist at one point."

The reference to the German writer is an apt one for a band that has always imbued its disarmingly off-kilter pop with tinges of paranoia and surrealism (both lyrically and musically), but even more fitting is the title of Wampire's new record: Bazaar.

Like the tantalizing blend of exotic treasures and captivating sensations its namesake suggests,Bazaar continually offers listeners a variety of unexpected and alluring sonic flavors over the course of its nine tracks -- ranging from raucous riffs ("Bad Attitude") to seductive sax ("Wizard Staff") to charmingly catchy choruses ("The Amazing Heart Attack").

As with their previous full-length Curiosity, Wampire recorded Bazaar with trusted producer Jacob Portrait (of Unknown Mortal Orchestra), though this time around the sessions took place at The Museum, a studio in Brooklyn's Greenpoint neighborhood, and were done directly to tape.

Far from home once again, Tinder and Phipps used the city to their advantage -- writing lyrics on the 40-minute bus ride to and from their temporary residence in Bed-Stuy and rushing to a shop down the street to buy a guitar -- one that looked and felt like it had been buried in dust for decades and had just the right analog sound -- as their allotted studio time was winding down.

Another important change was the addition of touring drummer Thomas Hoganson to the recording and songwriting process. Though Tinder and Phipps had previously sought to minimize distractions in the studio by just working with each other, Hoganson's diverse musical abilities (in addition to drums, he also plays piano and saxophone on Bazaar) made him an ideal collaborator.

And so, after a year spent in vans and on planes, in European clubs, Australian beaches, and everywhere in between, Wampire emerged with more confidence, a stronger vision, and what is undeniably their best batch of songs to date. Bazaar will be available on CD, LP (Polyvinyl e-store limited edition of 300 on 180-gram clear purple, black), cassette and digitally.

"A critical darling poised to soon cross over from the realm of cool-kid dance music into that of popular R&B, or perhaps to bring those two worlds together"
T: The New York Times Style Magazine

"Cut 4 Me is an ambitiously catchy record as well as being an aesthetically ambitious one. Essential to this is Kelela's decision to play against the beats' moodiness-that juxtaposition drives the album's likability."
Pitchfork 'Best New Music'

2014 has been a breakout year for Kelela. Beginning with last year's release of her debut mixtape Cut 4 Me, Kelela spent the year criss-crossing the world playing festivals and her own headline shows. Her live sets have evolved from solitary sessions backed by an iPod to immersive multi-media raves. She was named one of BBC Radio1's "Sound of 2014" artists, an incredible feat for an independent musician that remains completely unsigned.

Since the release of Cut 4 Me, Kelela's dropped a few one-off tracks - "OICU" w/Le1f, "Want It" w/Tink, and "The High," tracks that in their own way attempt to draw a thread between her mixtape and the new material she's working on that will contribute to her debut album.

Kelela is rounding out this incredible year with one last round of live headline dates and festival shows. Whether it be an underground club or a festival--like her recent FYF-Fest appearance, which Bullet magazine declared "Won the Weekend--" Kelela has the ability to connect with her audience.

That audience continues to grow: The tour features shows at Music Hall of Williamsburg, Bowery Ballroom and Los Angeles's Fonda Theatre and are her biggest headline dates yet. Shows will also be supported by her right hand man Total Freedom, with help from some of her favorite artists Shura, Lafawndah, Chynna, Novelist and more TBA.
