About Tijuana Panthers and Wayne Interest:
Live and on record, the Tijuana Panthers are a great band. You could say garage, punk or surf while describing their sound, but they're harder to pin than that. The truth is that they write classic songs that don't depend on tropes from any genre. They craft perfect pop and deliver it with energy and immediacy. However, the real magic of this band is in their weirdness.
Behind their picturesque portraits of daily life is an aching despair. This subtle contrast creates an eerie tension between the ideal, the real and the surreal. You suddenly realize they're not the happy-go-lucky beach boys you tried to pin them as, but more akin to sexually frustrated soda jerks in a David Lynch film. And this all makes sense with the fact that they come from Southern California's shadier city of Long Beach, not exactly the fun in the sun that California dream- ers might expect.
For Wayne Interest, the Panthers team up with producer Richard Swift. The recordings took place at Swift's studio in Oregon where the band decidedly took risks in performance and production. The risks paid off. With Swift's direction and upgrade in fidelity, Wayne Interest sounds just as compelling in headphones as it would at a house party in East LA. It also gives the listener a closer look at the idiosyncrasies of the Tijuana Panthers, only making it clearer that there's something off about these creeps. Their weirdness, or bold- ness to be whoever they may be, is what makes this band great. It's a rare quality. The more you listen to the Tijuana Panthers the more you wonder about them.

LISTEN: "Wizard Staff" -
Following the release of their debut album Curiosity in 2013, Wampire went from a duo most accustomed to playing house parties around their hometown of Portland to a five-piece band performing in venues all over the world with groups such as Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Foxygen, and Smith Westerns.
That 12-month span saw Wampire play more shows in more cities, countries, and continents than in all their previous years together combined -- a nearly non-stop barrage of new and memorable experiences that, above all else, forced the band members to become more fully immersed in music than at any other time in their lives. As a result, when founding members and primary songwriters Rocky Tinder and Eric Phipps returned home at the tail end of the year, they immediately dove into the process of working on a new album in order to capitalize on the creative energy that had been steadily amassing during their days, weeks, and months on the road. Says Phipps of that moment in time, "I holed up in a tiny room within a friend's warehouse and began knocking out as many different songs as I could. I tried not to look back, just wanting to explore everything I could possibly create. I started to feel like I was becoming a Kafka-esque insomniac musical novelist at one point." The reference to the German writer is an apt one for a band that has always imbued its disarmingly off-kilter pop with tinges of paranoia and surrealism (both lyrically and musically), but even more fitting is the title of Wampire's new record: Bazaar. Like the tantalizing blend of exotic treasures and captivating sensations its namesake suggests,Bazaar continually offers listeners a variety of unexpected and alluring sonic flavors over the course of its nine tracks -- ranging from raucous riffs ("Bad Attitude") to seductive sax ("Wizard Staff") to charmingly catchy choruses ("The Amazing Heart Attack"). As with their previous full-length Curiosity, Wampire recorded Bazaar with trusted producer Jacob Portrait (of Unknown Mortal Orchestra), though this time around the sessions took place at The Museum, a studio in Brooklyn's Greenpoint neighborhood, and were done directly to tape. Far from home once again, Tinder and Phipps used the city to their advantage -- writing lyrics on the 40-minute bus ride to and from their temporary residence in Bed-Stuy and rushing to a shop down the street to buy a guitar -- one that looked and felt like it had been buried in dust for decades and had just the right analog sound -- as their allotted studio time was winding down. Another important change was the addition of touring drummer Thomas Hoganson to the recording and songwriting process. Though Tinder and Phipps had previously sought to minimize distractions in the studio by just working with each other, Hoganson's diverse musical abilities (in addition to drums, he also plays piano and saxophone on Bazaar) made him an ideal collaborator. And so, after a year spent in vans and on planes, in European clubs, Australian beaches, and everywhere in between, Wampire emerged with more confidence, a stronger vision, and what is undeniably their best batch of songs to date.
For evidence of this, check out the album's first single "Wizard Staff" above now and see below for all of the band's upcoming tour dates, including a September run with Temples. Bazaar will be available on CD, LP (Polyvinyl e-store limited edition of 300 on 180-gram clear purple, black), cassette and digitally.

About Peter Matthew Bauer:
Peter Matthew Bauer is a rock & roll singer and musician with a debut record called "Liberation!" out everywhere now on Mexican Summer and Memphis Industries. It's been called a "cult classic in waiting" by UNCUT magazine and has been universally embraced in the press. As an album, Bauer uses Liberation! as an opportunity to welcome the rest of the world into his personal history of a childhood spent living in ashrams, and a life shaped by the constant presence of religion and mythology amidst uncertainty. What Peter has learned, and what he imparts both on the title track and across the eleven songs that make up Liberation!, is a riot of experiential notions. "Liberation, as the idea of the record, relates to belief in its various incarnations. In a way I'm trying to poke fun at it; this Western idea of heaven, this Eastern idea that it will take a hundred lifetimes, or a thousand lifetimes to get somewhere better. You can be mad about these things, but you can also arrive at some sort of strange, joyful experience right now without believing anything."
At whatever level you choose to listen, the record stands proudly on its own, a roundabout life story couched in a dynamic blend of soulful balladry, folk-tinged meditations, and full-bore rock & roll. Written and realized in Utrecht during a bout of insomniac wanderlust, a song like "Latin American Ficciones," the album's first single, could take on any number of interpretations, with lyrics that become more descriptively vicious by turns as its two-chord riff grows in intensity, all dimed amps and deafening mantra. The first song on the record, "I Was Born In An Ashram," addresses his teenage years, summers spent in an Ashram in upstate New York, set to a shambolic percussion, acoustic guitar, and choral background vocals, which culminate in a spiritual euphoria. "After awhile, a lot of unsavory business rose up around the ashram. So some of the songs relate to that, these whispers you'd hear as a teenager, of all these dark shadows and characters hanging around. I think it's very unusual that all this negative stuff arises, and yet, so many of these people are having these very strange, authentic spiritual experiences," Peter recalls. "That's the sort of energy I was trying to get at - that paradox, which as you investigate it more, really seems to make more and more sense. Life is jubilant and joyous even through the shadows." Album closer "You Are The Chapel" builds off a heart-soaring piano melody, skipping across an even wider array of life lived, from conversations about Richard Dawkins and genetics with strangers in the Basque countryside, to the absurdity of lad behavior from inside the facilities at a Savages concert in Leeds, to the life of a shoeless French hippie in Barcelona.
The constant changes in scenery that inspired Peter Bauer to write this record highlight a greater truth about the songs on Liberation! - that they exist on multiple levels, they take on meanings other than their intention the moment they left the studio, joined by what he's phrased in the record's finale as "the mystery of of it all." Conceived largely on a sojourn all across Europe, Liberation! was recorded at a factory space in the Port Richmond neighborhood of Philadelphia with friends Quentin Stoltzfus, Christopher Colbert, Matt Oliver, and Matthew Barrick taking part in the recording and mixing. All of this work accounts for Liberation's saturated, homemade feel, as Peter's music fuses a wide swath of influences and technique into an assured, anthemic statement in the palette of rock 'n' roll. Liberation! is the soundtrack of one man's journey inside himself, in preparation for the rest of the world to follow.

SWANS west coast tour 2014
Swans have commenced the fourth leg of a year-long world-wide tour celebrating the release of their 2 CD set To Be Kind, the third studio album from this outfit since their reactivation by band primum mobile Michael Gira in 2010 after a 14 year hiatus. The touring line-up is: Michael Gira - guitar, voice (original Swans); Norman Westberg - guitar (original Swans); Christoph Hahn - guitar (mid period Swans and most Angels Of Light); Phil Puleo - drums, percussion, dulcimer etc etc (final Swans tour and most Angels); Chris Pravdica - bass and gadgets (Flux Information Sciences / Services/ Gunga Din); Thor Harris - drums, percussion, vibes, dulcimer, curios, keys, etc etc... (Angels / Shearwater). I'm hoping you'll consider advancing this show with a feature, CD review or advance blurb. Do let me know if you need the music.
To Be Kind was produced by Michael Gira, performed by the touring line-up, recorded by the venerable John Congleton at Sonic Ranch, outside El Paso Texas; further recordings and mixing were accomplished at Congleton's studio in Dallas, Texas. Gira says of the new album, "A good portion of the material for this album was developed live during the Swans tours of 2012/13. Much of the music was otherwise conjured in the studio environment." The album debuted at #37 on Billboard's Top 200 sales chart and has garnered a huge amount of ecstatic coverage from a host of impressive outlets:
Swans' grand new album, "To Be Kind," is a career-defining work that few could have expected from a 30-plus-year project considered by many to be well past its peak. At 122 minutes, it's as long as a movie and as densely heavy as a Richard Serra sculpture.
Defying easy categorization, "To Be Kind" is a rock album, but it's not something to be taken lightly. Brash, polarizing, fearless and filled with a purity of vision that would make Col. Kurtz blanch, the work features mountains of guitars and beats made with boulders, brass, laser-gun noises, guest vocals from Annie Clark (a.k.a. St. Vincent) and a sprawling vision...Randall Roberts/Los Angeles Times
...To Be Kind harnesses Swans' crushing volume, pulverizing repetition and lacerating waves of feedback - all those conventionally aggro signifiers - to show us that love can be as vast and voracious as the void, and the void as welcoming as a lover's embrace. They are one and the same.... Phillip Sherbourne/Spin.com
... As it plays out, To Be Kind starts to resemble a cult procession unto itself, a mesmerizing spectacle of an omnipotent band whose sound continues to expand in scope and ranks swell in size...Stuart Berman/Pitchfork.com
Michael Gira founded the seminal NYC band Swans in 1982. Quickly infamous for their punishing, brutal and repetitive onslaughts of sound, extreme volume levels, and the self-abusing, abject shouts and growls of Gira's sloganeering vocals, Swans gradually transformed over 15 years, ultimately venturing into harsh mechanical proto-industrial rock, to sprawling shifts of texture and perspective (see the bucolic atmospheric folk idles and martial stomps of their much heralded Children of God double LP from 1987), to gentle acoustic-based songs, and finally on to their ultimate statement, Soundtracks For The Blind (1997) which somehow incorporated all of these elements at once, across well over 2 hours of music in one album. At this point, Gira called it quits after 15 years of relentless touring and productivity, and disbanded Swans. He went on to release his music under the name Angels Of Light on a long series of critically acclaimed albums. He also produced and released music through his label Young God Records and was responsible for finding and nurturing such notable talents as Devendra Banhart, Lisa Germano, Akron/Family, and James Blackshaw. In 2010, he reactivated Swans, releasing My Father Will Guide Me Up A Rope To The Sky to ecstatic critical response and touring the world for the better part of a year. The Seer, a 2 CD set came out in 2012 and was celebrated by a year-long tour as well, both the album and live shows eliciting still more media praise, the album placing nicely on Billboard's Top 200 Sales Chart.

Roni Size Announces New Solo EP and Album
Roni Size to Release New Solo EP & Album in August via His New Label Mansion Sounds & Announces Return of Reprazent in 2015
New York, NY – Groundbreaking British drum’n’bass pioneer Roni Size announced earlier this month that he will be releasing a new solo album Take Kontrol on August 25th via his new label Mansion Sounds. The 16 track album is his first in nearly a decade and will be preceded by a six track EP on August 18th entitled Size Matters – featuring all carefully selected tracks from the forthcoming new album. The music onTake Kontrol and Size Matters focuses purely on “dancefloor cuts for the heads,” with Size reprising his role as a producer/DJ away from the live environment he’s explored with Reprazent. Size has also revealed that Reprazent will return later this year, with a new album set for release in early 2015.
On July 7th Size premiered his first new track from the upcoming pair of releases – “Made in Korea” – with MixMag in the UK who called it “…a fierce and ferocious roller that's sure to please the old school d'n'b heads” and you can check it out exclusively here: http://www.mixmag.net/music/exclusive-music/prem-roni-size. Other new tracks that have surfaced thus far include “Final Day” – played by Annie Mac on herBBC Radio 1 show: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b0495c2b – and “Power,” which found its way on the UKF Drum & Bass Channel on July 16th and you can listen to in its entirety here: http://ukf.com/video/roni-size-power/.
In addition, Size is giving away a free track “Bite The Bullet (2014 remix)” to fans who sign up for his new mailing list via Facebook here and you can also sign up directly on the new site www.ronisize.net, the first stop for news on new releases, mixes, live dates and exclusive content.
Size, who is now based out of London’s Metropolis Studios and splits his time between the capital and his native Bristol, is excited to be launching his new label Mansion Sounds with his first new album in ten years and said, “When I hear this music I hear a MANSION of possibilities. This is just the start of better things to come.”
In addition to the standard 16 track CD/digital album release of Take Kontrol, there will be an iTunes deluxe version that features 25 tracks and an exclusive DJ mix from Roni. Further details on Take Kontrol and Reprazent will be released soon.
