HOWLS Self-Titled Debut Out on Buddyhead Records
“…It may be the sexiest record of 2014.” – Philthy Mag
Los Angeles’ Howls long awaited self-titled debut it out today May 13, 2014 on Buddyhead Records.
Although this is the first album from Howls, the duo, Annalee Fery and Christian Stone are seasoned musicians who have been a part of the music scene in Los Angeles for years with projects like Monsters are Waiting, Campfire Girls and Lonely Trees.
Time, which is the core theme of this album, is a funny thing. It separates, conjoins, distances and overlaps our respective paths in life, and no one knows this as well as Howls. The two artists (Annalee and Christian) have been circling in and out of each others atmospheres for years, but only in the past few years did they decide to act on an impulse both had known for far too long; the two were meant to make meaningful art together. This expertly crafted album full of noise-rock riffs, acoustic meditations and snaking synth squiggles has been described as "minimalist," and "haunting" by Buzzbands LA.Groundsounds says “Their music has extreme depth to it, with seemingly brilliant mixtures of minimalist elements, as well as smooth, haunting, dark-shaded electronica,” and Philthy Mag called the album "playfully dark, flirtatious, and danceable to the nth degree.”
Howls will be playing at the Spare Room at the Roosevelt Hotel this Thursday May 15th as part of the music series curated by the Burning Ear.
