Washed Out Announces More Tour Dates In Support ofParacosm Collaborates With KEEP Footwear For Limited-Edition Shoe Watch “All I Know” (Last Call With Carson Daly) Watch “New Theory” (Live At Coachella) (April 30th, 2014) Washed Out will resume his late spring & early summer tour schedule this May in support of his acclaimed second album, Paracosm. The next leg of touring begins with a performance on Saturday, May 24th in George, WA at Sasquatch and currently ends on Sunday, June 22nd in Dover, DE at the Firefly Festival.  Highlights include: Sunday, June 1st in Houston, TX for Free Press Summer Fest; Friday, June 6th in New York, NY for Governors Ball; Sunday, June 8th in Toronto, ON for Field Trip; Friday, June 13th in Manchester, TN for Bonnaroo; Thursday, June 19th in Dufur, OR at WTF?! Washed Out won over audiences at the sold-out Coachella weekends earlier this month. The Nerdistsaid of the set, “He played “New Theory” and “Feel It All Around” with beautiful live-show arrangements we weren’t used to on his record.  Hailed for her “bold, idiosyncratic sound,” NPR has selected Nikki Lane’s forthcoming sophomore album, All Or Nothin’ for a coveted First Listen, joining the likes of Dolly Parton and Lykke Li for this week’s selection. The record, produced by The Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach and out May 6 on New West Records, is streaming in full at NPR.org who exclaimed: “The effect never feels merely nostalgic, and it never seems insincere. Instead, All or Nothin' simply sounds like the work of a performer who knows when to embrace her contradictions: classic and modern, iconoclastic and approachable, country and rock, urban and rural. 

NPR’s support comes on the heels of a track premiere with Elle.com for Lane’s “Seein’ Double,” a darkly personal track with surf-twang guitars and a propulsive barbed hook of a chorus. Listen to the song via Elle.

Testament to Lane’s versatility and widespread appeal, she is currently out on the road opening for Athens rockers The Whigs and will immediately follow the tour with a West Coast run supporting alt-country stalwarts the Old 97’s with dates in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle and Portland. The Nashville-based South Carolina-bred chanteuse will tour heavily in support of All Or Nothin’ and just confirmed the Austin City Limits Music Festival in October. Like the thoughts and emotions behind them, Lane’s songs shift and ebb in the live setting but she promises whether she’s playing solo or with a full band she approaches each song “in the most badass way possible.” Full routing is below with many more dates to be announced soon.

With just a week before release, All Or Nothin’ is already starting to make an impact at radio. Early support has come from KEXP, who described the album as “an evocative, moody blend of noirish country-pop, ‘60s girl groups, bluesy garage-rock, spaghetti western and more” as well as SiriusXM’s The Loft, WUMB in Boston and several others. 

All Or Nothin’ sees Lane teaming up with some of the finest musicians and songwriters in Nashville to craft an album that fully realizes her musical vision. Produced by Auerbach, who Lane met at her pop-up vintage clothing stall when he wanted to buy the 1940s hunting jacket she was wearing, the rousing collection of songs spans genres and eras and exudes with Lane's characteristic attitude and Southern swagger. “I wrote with so many amazing musicians on this album but Dan was really instrumental in helping me figure out the direction we were going for,” Lane says.

Over 12 tracks, Lane sings tales about misbehaving, wanton desires, heartache, love and lust. "It's always the right time to do the wrong thing," she repeats like a mantra during the infectious opener "Right Time" and that statement defines All Or Nothin' as good as anything will. “I really consider this album to be a Nikki Lane mixtape of my thoughts and the sounds that I’m into so that’s why you can’t put it in a neat box,” Lane says. From the whimsical, dreamy sensation of “I Don’t Care” to the stripped-down acoustic duet with Auerbach, “Love’s On Fire,” to the plaintive ballad “Out of My Mind,” written with former touring partner J. Spaceman of Spiritualized and the woozy, blue-eyed soul of the title track, the album showcases the many sides of Lane and her diverse influences.

Lane’s passion for music is only matched by her passion for fashion, evident from her album cover, which features her decked out in a white fringe dress and gold cape, to her impeccable stage outfits – vintage embrodiered shirts, boots, western attire, and leather motorcycle jackets. The born entrepenuer has parlayed her penchant and knowledge for the clothes of yesteryear into a successful business she calls High Class Hillbilly, a vintage clothing stall she takes around Nashville and out on tour with her, fueling the enterprise with pieces she collects on the road. In addition to selling her own wares, the style maven is highly sought after by clothing and accessory brands; she has worked with Warby Parker, Frye Boots, Minnetonka Moccasins, Billy Reid, TOMS and most recently Vans.

Armed with a compelling album and her fiery personality, Lane is poised to have a breakout year. Just one of the many reasons why CMT singled her out for thier “Next Women of Country” campaign, putting her in the same company as 2013’s artists Kacey Musgraves and Brandy Clark.

Nikki Nack - the new album from tUnE-yArDs - is out in less than two weeks, and to coincide with their first show with Arcade Fire tonight, they have just premiered the album's first video! Combining a plethora of different visual elements, from animation to puppetry, dancing, and even a science lesson, 'Water Fountain' is a video every bit as colorful as tUnE-yArDs' music. Directed by Joel Kefali, he writes that "when Merril approached me wanting to make a video with a PeeWee's Playhouse vibe I had to say yes. I'd had plenty of ideas for a kid's show that had been waiting to see the light of day. I didn't want to make a straight homage piece; there are moments of nostalgia in there but the video is our own modern, manic, collage of a kids show. Like many great kids shows I wanted to cram in as many ideas as possible and sneak in the occasional wink to the art world, contemporary and historic. The musical dynamic of 'Water Fountain' lends itself perfectly to the concept and I think this video is best viewed while consuming a big bowl of cereal. Then again, what isn't?" Their energetic live set and unique recording process has made fans out of some of the biggest names in music including Pharrell Williams, Questlove, and OutKast. Gaining popularity among such tastemakers led to collaborations with artists like Big Boi, The Gorillaz, and SBTRKT. The release of Little Dragon's fourth album,Nabuma Rubberband, is the culminating moment in their career after years of building a grassroots fanbase.  Musically inspired by the more experimental pockets of Prince's back catalogue, club culture and the vintage Janet Jackson slow jams Yukimi used to listen to wandering around Gothenburg during the unrelenting winter, Nabuma Rubberband has a different feel to previous Little Dragon albums. "When you put some of Janet's really slow stuff on you feel like you're floating," Yukimi explains. "That feeling really influenced me and maybe that's why there are quite a lot of slow jams on the record. In the past we've been a bit self-conscious about making slow jams after 'Twice'. Then we wanted to make dance music which we did with Machine Dreams and then Ritual Union still had a dance vibe, but with this album it wasn't about that. The intention was about whatever we felt strongly about." Yukimi Nagano, Erik Boden, Fred Wallin and Håkan Wirenstrand make up Little Dragon, the zeitgeist band that blend strands of R&B, electronic and indie into beautifully and meaningfully crafted songs. THREE O'CLOCK TAPE from early 1980s

I have a tape with the THREE O'CLOCK and Dream Syndicate. It says live in Berkeley. I was wondering from what year and is this a release? Michael does a lot of talking. It's a little Baroque Hoedown heavy. Michael mentions that the record hasn't been released yet. There is some mention of gigs by X and Bad Brains in October 1982.

DEATH ANNOUNCES INTERVIEW AND PERFORMANCE ON THE ARSENIO HALL SHOW TONIGHT DEATH III STREAMING VIA NPR DEATH III DUE APRIL 22ND VIA DRAG CITY

STREAM: DEATH III -  http://www.npr.org/2014/04/13/300585559/first-listen-death-death-iii Five years after the second life of Death was started with the release of their revelatory 1976 album, For the Whole World to See, Death III slams the door on the vault with a powerful set of songs that bring equal amounts of rock and ethereal soul-searching, in high-fidelity, rich bottomed, studio-grade sound. Alongside songs from 1975, 1976 and 1980,Death III contains two songs from 1992, as the Hackney brothers reconvened nearly a decade after they'd stopped playing together. Death III serves as a companion piece of sorts to the A Band Called Death documentary, tracking the band's movement from spiritual young rockers to older and wiser, bruised-but-undefeated brothers, in pure musical terms.    David Hackney's visual representation of Death was a triangle, where "spiritual," "mental" and "physical" formed the three angles. With this in mind, For the Whole World to See is clearly the physical corner, with its undeniable proto-punk power; Spiritual-Mental-Physicalexplores the mental axis, with Death working through some of their influences, including The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, The Who and even ELO, in their practice space. Death III is the spiritual end of the portrait, bookended by the dreamlike rock visions of David Hackney that created and propelled the band called Death.    Death III starts with David inside a deep 1975 guitar improvisation, rising up through atmospheres and prehistoric guitar murk to coalesce in jagged monster-riff-dom. The whole exercise recalls Funkadelic's great Eddie Hazel while reflecting the pure essence of David Hackney's guitar style. This jump-cuts perfectly five years into the future, with the funky staccato of "North Street," which finds the band's punkish approach at it's most aggressive. From there, the album moves back and forth from 1975 and '76 (including two songs recorded at Groovesville in Detroit with the other For the Whole World to See songs) to 1980, showing the band streamlining their frenetic core and maximizing the power. The lyrical focus of the songs "Open Road," "We Are Only People," and "Free" is more in the spirit/soul side of Death as heard on "Let the World Turn" and "Where Do We Go From Here???" - sensitive, searching, reflective. "We Are Only People" is an epic journey that begins with another Funkadelic-styled spoken-word moment, progressing through a spacious solo-guitar-with-harmonies section and into the inevitable rock conclusion. Dark hues are generated by the relentless and speedy "Restlessness" while remaining at a philosophical remove, and "Free" is a heavy duo piece with Bobby and David exploring the meaning of the word. But the album's climax is provided by a trio (once again, the triangle) of David songs, two of which hail from 1992. All three pieces together form a release of the soul of Death from it's dark origins, building optimism upon the harsh realities they'd experienced in their lives, more relaxed without losing the spark and bite of those former times. The unaccompanied guitar instrumental "First Snowfall in Detroit," is David Hackney at his most soulful, which gives way to "We're Gonna Make It," first featured as an emotional climax to the documentary and no less powerful here. With these songs, Death III pays final tribute to David Hackney's thoroughly original voice and vision, now stilled, but captured forever as a part of the remarkable story of Death.   Death Death III April 22, 2014 Drag City 1.
