Founded in 1976, STIFF RECORDS was at the heart of the new wave, bringing the world artists as diverse as Elvis CostelloKirsty MacColl and Ian Dury and what is generally regarded as the first ever punk rock single, “New Rose” by The Damned. The label set the yardstick for music business marketing, with artwork by Barney Bubbles and an array of memorable slogans, not least "If It Ain't Stiff, It Ain't Worth A F**k".  Stiff continues to this day, with the 2012 UK #1 single “Bom Bom” by Sam And The Womp and a back catalog comprising 150 singles and more than 50 albums of revered 70s and 80s pop, punk and rock.

This LIMITED EDITION 7” Box Set "Ten Big Stiffs" takes you on a tour of the Stiff catalog, and ) which includes ten 7-inch releases, all chosen by Stiff Records, featuring some of the most recognizable tracks from  the label throughout the years: Tenpole Tudor's “Swords of a Thousand Men” (as heard in Aardman Animations' Pirates! in 2012 and in TV ads for EA Games' FIFA 11 in 2011), Tracey Ullman's “They Don't Know” (#8 US hit on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1983), Wreckless Eric's “Whole Wide World” (MacDonalds TV ads in 2012) and Desmond Dekker's “Israelites” (a classic hit featured in Drugstore Cowboy).

Set for release on November 29, as a Record Store Day exclusive in North America through indie stories via Razor & Tie Records Ten Big Stiffs is an incredible collector's item, the original sleeve artwork is recreated on each, with the exception of Mint Juleps – Docklands. This is ‘the Stiff 7-inch that never was”.  Scheduled to have been a 7-inch release back in the day, it originally got overlooked, so collectors are always asking for it. The set also includes PlasmaticsWreckless Eric, The Untouchables and more. (Full track list below)

Experience the history of STIFF RECORDS, and all the artists featured on this release, through a series of videos produced by award-winning film-maker NIGEL DICK.  The videos will be rolled out over the next month at www.10BigStiffs.com. The British born Dick began his career at Stiff Records as a Press Officer.  He has since directed over 300 music videos and seventeen documentaries, won three MTV Awards, three MVPA awards, two Billboard Awards and a Brit Award.

More About Death Vessel (from Shearwater’s Jonathan Meiburg):
Like Nico's, Jimmy Scott's, or Phil Elverum's, Joel Thibodeau’s is a voice that demands its own sonic and lyrical world, and with Island Intervals, his third record as Death Vessel (and second for Sub Pop), we're treated to the sound of him finding a rich and strange new home among new friends in Iceland who probably saw him as a long-lost relative. Joel's an inveterate and intuitive wanderer; when I met him years ago, he'd just spent a few months traveling the United States on Greyhound buses, sometimes sleeping rough, and making a record from found moments. I remember he had an otherworldly quality about him that I couldn't quite name, like he’d just blown in on the wind (read more at Sub Pop).

What People Have Said About Death Vessel:
“His soft, childlike delivery strips the words of all pretension with an innocence that's as wrenching as the best current singer-songwriters.” [Nothing Is Precious… Review] - Rolling Stone

“Thibodeau’s melodies, which have always been pretty, are now beautiful.” [Nothing Is Precious… Review] -  Boston Phoenix

“This is a blissful, radiant, rewarding listen; one recommended without hesitation.” [Nothing Is Precious… Review] - Drowned In Sound

“His pure delivery—he scales the heights, but never over-sings—and cryptic/mystic worldview are still the main attractions.”  [Nothing Is Precious… Review] - Mojo

Anna von Hausswolff - First U.S. Tour

ANNA VON HAUSSWOLFF TO BEGIN FIRST U.S. TOUR DECEMBER 4 IN D.C.
Performances Will Feature Material from Swedish Artist’s Highly Acclaimed Album Ceremony

“I hope to find one album like Ceremony every year…and now I've got one for 2013.”
—Bob Boilen, NPR Music
“When von Hausswolff's ringing, regal voice sails in, it's clear that an original voice is announcing itself.”
—Jayson Greene, Pitchfork

Finally, audiences in major U.S. cities will have an opportunity to experience singer / pianist Anna von Hausswolff’s striking and deeply felt music live. She will tour the country for the first time, beginning December 4 in Washington, DC, performing material from her celebrated album Ceremony (July 9, Other Music Recording Co.). Please see below for an itinerary of shows.

Anna von Hausswolff hails from Sweden, the land of midnight sun, black metal and Ingmar Bergman. Ceremony is primarily inspired by the death of her grandfather three years ago, and is informed by Anna’s childhood, when she and her sister sang in choirs and spent much time around their father, the renowned avant-garde artist and composer Carl Michael von Hausswolff, as he worked with artists ranging from William S. Burroughs to Union Carbide Productions. To record this tribute to her grandfather, Anna, a unique and powerful singer, accompanies herself on that most sacred of instruments, the church organ. The result is a work that combines intimacy and majestic grandeur.

Among the music press that has hailed Ceremony, von Hausswolff’s first U.S. release, is NPR Music’s Bob Boilen, who wrote, “When you put on Anna von Hausswolf's second album, Ceremony, everything around you changes. That ability to be instantly distinct is the mark of any great record; it's a vibe, and here that vibe is dramatic and stark and, as Ceremony progresses, surprising…von Hausswolff's voice possesses the power to soar with those mighty pipes and still hold tight to delicate, personal emotions.” The Village Voice called Ceremony a “beautiful, elegiac song cycle.” Reviewing her only U.S. live show to date, in July at Brooklyn’s Glasslands, Brooklyn Vegan noted von Hausswolf's “seriously spine-tingling pipes.”

Growing up in Gothenburg’s bohemian neighborhood of Haga, Anna and her younger sister, Maria, were surrounded by art and music. They lived with their mother in a small apartment nestled amongst concert halls, record shops, galleries and cafés. Music was everywhere, and none was more impactful than that of the girls’ own father. The senior von Hausswolff’s sound experiments and art installations opened his young daughters’ minds to a world of inspiration, and the headquarters of the Haga-based Radium label he founded in 1986, the same year Anna was born, became a playground and hideout for the sisters, a smoke-filled cabinet of wonders where a vast array of iconic artists took up residence amongst the girls’ schoolbooks and playthings.

After high school, Anna began to pursue a lifelong interest in architecture at Chalmers University before moving to Copenhagen to continue her studies of art and architecture at the Royal Academy of Art, where she is currently enrolled. And yet, as her studies continued, her musical passion only deepened, and in 2009 Anna released her first EP on Kning Disk,Track of Time, followed in 2010 by her debut full-length, Singing from the Grave. The album received rave reviews across Sweden and took various awards, and Anna toured across Scandinavia numerous times. Since Kning Disk releasedCeremony in Sweden last summer, the album has received near-universal critical praise and was nominated for two Swedish Grammys and a Nordic Prize.

For the U.S. dates, von Hausswolff will be joined by her Swedish band: Filip Leyman (keyboards), Karl Vento (guitar) and Ulrik Ording (drums).

The North American release by Other Music Recording Co. (distributed by Fat Possum) on July 9 followed an acclaimed U.K. / E.U. release by City Slang on June 17.
