ANGELES, CA -- The Pixies have been confirmed for the iTunes Festival,
to be held in London at The Roundhouse on Wednesday, September 25. The
iTunes festival is free to the public, and can be streamed via the
official app available on the iTunes Store and with Apple TV. The
festival, running from September 1-30, will also feature performances
by Kings of Leon, Justin Timberlake, Sigur Ros, Paramore, Queens of the
Stone Age, Vampire Weekend, and more. For more info, log onto http://www.itunesfestival.com/
"We're
all big Mac fans, so we're particularly excited to be performing at the
iTunes Festival in London," said the Pixies' Joey Santiago.
Since
the surprise premiere of "Bagboy" two weeks ago, the first new Pixies
song in nearly a decade, it's been quite a ride for the band and their
fans.
Last
week, the band announced the first leg of its extensive world tour, and
within minutes of tickets going on sale, shows in London, Dublin,
Madrid, Amsterdam and Brussels sold out, with second shows added - also
sold out - in all of those markets. Additionally, all tickets were
scooped up for Pixies shows in Manchester, Glasgow, Oslo, and the first show in Paris, with a second one now on sale. Go to pixiesmusic.com for dates and ticketing info.
And with the news of "Bagboy" having literally dominated the Internet, the track has received tremendous critical praise:
"...a churning, noise-streaked new confection..." -- SPIN
"...a vintage Pixie-ian meld of garage punk and anthemic pop choruses." -- Mojo
"...a classic Pixies loud-soft rocker..." -- Diffuser.fm
"...it's clear that the band's vitality is fully intact." -- NPR
"...classic Pixies." -- Brooklyn Vegan
"...excellent. It's worth the wait." -- Guardian UK
The promo video for "Bagboy,"
made available two weeks ago in tandem with the song, is just a few
clicks away from one-million views on YouTube. The video, full of
smoke bombs, teen angst and fruit loops, was directed by LAMAR+NIK.
As the Boston Globe wrote, "the band isn't showing signs of slowing down any time soon."
