FRIENDS KICK OFF FALL TOUR TONIGHT

FRIENDS KICK OFF FALL TOUR WITH
TWO DOOR CINEMA CLUB TONIGHT

Los Angeles, CA - September 28, 2012 - Brooklyn-based band Friends will hit the road this fall with Two Door Cinema Club kicking off tonight at the famed Central Park Summerstage in New York City and winding down in Santa Ana, CA at The Observatory on Sunday, October 28th.

Friends - Samantha Urbani (Vox), Nikki Shapiro (Guitar/Keys), Oliver Duncan (Percussion), and V (Bass) - are touring in support of their heralded, self-produced debut album, Manifest!, released by Fat Possum Records on June 5th.The album is a collection of fun/funky/danceable pop hits, with powerful lyrical themes touching on polyamory, anarchism, empowerment of the individual, being wary of the government and media, existential awe, etc. Manifest! was hailed by The New York Times as"one of the year's most breathless debuts." Publications from Dazed and Confused to The London Times all agree that if there "is to be one more band from Brooklyn then it should be Friends."

Friends are known for their highly spirited live shows, where attendees can expect to be danced with, kissed, and tattooed. Having toured non-stop for the past year, the band most recently brought their "untouchable, cool and indelible, hook-laden pop music," (Q Magazine) to festival audiences across Europe including two SOLD OUT shows in London.

See them for yourself and quickly learn why NME called them "One of 100 New Bands You Have To Hear."

The "Fireflies" MP3, which is now available for download, premiered earlier this morning. Gorilla Vs. Bear calls the track a "Sweeping, romantic new single… which gives off some starry-eyed, cinematic ’80s prom slow-dance vibes" (see Gorilla Vs. Bear premiere Sep. 27).

In further exciting news, Still Corners are hard at work on their follow up to their acclaimed Creatures of An Hour,  due out spring 2013 via Sub Pop.

More on Still Corners:
"Many bands lay claim to the adjective “cinematic.” But how many can claim a truly cinema-worthy moment as part of their inception? It was a dark and foggy night when Still Corners songwriter Greg Hughes first laid eyes on vocalist Tessa Murray. “It sounds stupid but it’s completely true,” he recounts. “I was on a train that was going to London Bridge. But for some reason it went to this other stop. And I got out, and this other person got out. It was Tessa (read more at Sub Pop)."

In the early eighties, a London sex cult infiltrated underground discotheques based on the principle that the secret to immortality was found through engaging in intimate acts of love. To retain their anonymity, members went by the acronym I.M.M.OR.T.A.L.I.F.E., or 'Inner Messages Morphing Over Resonant Time, Always Loving Infinitely Free and Everlasting'. For years, I.M.M.O.R.T.A.L.I.F.E. dedicated itself to recording dance track hymnals that would provoke lovemaking acts and thus prolong the lives of its members. When the end of the world came, the group was found frozen in midst of an orgiastic collapse. They had not slept or eaten in thirteen days.

This is the reunited Guided By Voices' third album of 2012, in case you had lost count. Many bands struggle to release three albums in their career, never mind three in one year. It would be one thing if these were tossed off lo-fi affairs of the sort one might expect from the fellows who made the defining records of that so-called genre, Bee Thousand (1994) and Alien Lanes (1995). While the debut from the reunited "classic" line-up, Let's Go Eat The Factory, contained it's share of basement gems, both that record and its follow-up Class Clown Spots A UFO are notable more for the preponderance of properly recorded rock, a testament to the years bandleader Robert Pollard has spent refining both his songwriting and his approach to recording.

The Bears For Lunch is not a great deal different in that regard, but right off, from the opening track "King Arthur the Red," with its full-throated riffery, slam-tastic drums, and even some show-offy lead guitar shredding, it's evident that GBV Mach 2 may just now be hitting its stride. The progression is not dissimilar to the one the band made from Alien Lanes to its 1996 high-water mark Under The Bushes, Under The Stars, both in terms of longer, more fleshed-out songs and let's call it a semi-pro approach to recording fidelity. For all the well-deserved acclaim the first two records this year have garnered, Bears is a step up in every sense. This isn't to say there's a whole lotta gloss going on, and certainly the album has its share of more casually considered songs, but from the relentless drum figure that fuels sure-fire-live-staple and obvious single "Hangover Child" ("the best thing Kevin 's ever played" sez Pollard) to the chugging, melancholic, melody-mad "White Flag" ("I think you know this time it's real," sings Bob over an almost New Order-ish bass line) to the propulsive, early-R.E.M.-inflected album closer "Everywhere Is Miles From Everywhere," the 19-song 43-ish minute long Bears delivers a gut-punch as sure and assured anything the band's ever dished out. And that's without mentioning the stellar contributions of Tobin Sprout ("The Corners Are Glowing" and "Waving At Airplanes" are particular standouts), bouts of unrestrained whimsy like "The Military School Dance Dismissal," featuring what sounds like seven tracks of Pollard singing in unison/harmony over a Beatle-esque piano line, or the staggering work of heart-breaking genius "You Can Fly Anything Right."

Add to this Pollard's two excellent 2012 solo albums, a raft of festival appearances and some club touring, and you have possibly the most consistently productive output in one year ever from a band and a songwriter already noted for its/his insanely prolific nature. That said, in a year of highlights, The Bears For Lunch may well take the most cake.

Oberhofer Play Los Angeles with Matt & Kim

           OBERHOFER       Photo Credit: Sebastian Mlynarski
Emotion is what drives the psychedelic catchy pop rock tunes crafted by the oft-effervescent Brad Oberhofer. Drawing on influences ranging from Brian Wilson to Descartes, the 21 year old is fixated on the idea of making philosophically minded, energetic melodies that just make people smile.
“Music is this thing I just inherently do and psychologically, I have a desire to make as many people happy as possible. Music helps you think about stuff, it helps you feel, you know?”
With an unforgettable way of speaking directly from the heart, Brad Oberhofer’s songs have a pulse that form the very core of what makes Oberhofer, Oberhofer. To put it quite simply, a great rock & roll band.
Armed with a belief that you spend your entire life searching for the socially aware version of the 5 year old “you”, he tries to inject each song with the innocence felt by that same kid, sitting on the couch of his parents house playing the broken guitar he spent months teaching himself how to play.
Referring to his songwriting as “a time capsule of exactly how I’m feeling at a particular moment”, each song on his forthcoming debut, Time Capsules II, is a clear, unrestrained look inside the head of Brad Oberhofer. “Gold” is a reflection on two magical weeks spent with a first love that inadvertently initiated his musical endeavors. “Away Frm U” is an upbeat song about saying goodbye to that love.
Like most of the impressive debut, the stand-out “I Could Go” shows that above all, his heart is on his sleeve in both his words and everything he creates, a trademark that suits his search for sincerity well.
After moving to Brooklyn from his hometown of Tacoma, Washington, to attend New York University, Brad quickly immersed himself in the indie rock community forming the 4 piece which is now quite simply, Oberhofer. Catching the attention of Glassnote Records, the band officially joined the labels’ roster over the summer of 2011. Brad recorded the debut album Time Capsules II with legendary producer Steve Lillywhite (U2, The Rolling Stones & Morrissey among others) in Brooklyn last fall and are on the road for the next, playing shows and festivals around the world.
One thing is certain – expect to see big things from this promising young band. It’s going to be quite a year for Oberhofer, the sky is truly the limit.

Quotes /
"Expansive instrumentation and charming, unpredictable song structures" Billboard
"The rising phenom Brad Oberhofer, the songwriter and front man for this band, sings with such a youthful urgency that sometimes he can’t contain it, and lets it out in yelps. He has a natural pop sensibility and the wisdom to toy with unconventional instruments." The New Yorker
"A newly sophisticated musical playground." SPIN
"It's a credit to Oberhofer to take such small moments and build them into such a feeling of importance." Consequence of Sound
"It's a visceral, hook-laden, and often beautiful teenage dream." Under The Radar
"Oberhofer's debut album, Time Capsules II, has the feel, the scope and the grandiloquence of a musical." The Guardian
"Time Capsules II is that kind of album: a buffet of familiar confections designed for easy digestion, painstakingly dressed and seasoned to demand repeat consumption" CMJ

MUDHONEY: LIVE IN BERLIN, 1988 DVD

MUDHONEY: LIVE IN BERLIN, 1988 DVD
OUT NOVEMBER 13 ON !K7 RECORDS

WATCH THE OFFICIAL TRAILER
On November 13th, !K7 Records will release Mudhoney: Live In Berlin, 1988 on DVD. The footage, filmed by a professional camera crew at 1988's Berlin Independent Days festival and only recently rediscovered, captures the Seattle Grunge pioneers' first ever performance on foreign soil. Playing as representatives of Sub Pop Records to a crowd of curious punters, critics and members of Europe's independent music community, the show was also the first Grunge gig in Europe, laying essential groundwork for the genre's subsequent global domination.

The official trailer (Watch on Vimeo) for Mudhoney: Live In Berlin, 1988 provides a sneak preview of the over 40 minutes of concert footage from the history making show. Featuring one of the greatest rock 'n' roll groups of all time at their very best, a glorious mess of flailed hair, acidic caterwaul, gnarly riffage and fried guitar skronk as Mudhoney tear through material from their epochal (but then unreleased) Superfuzz Bigmuff EP and eponymous debut album.

The DVD also features an exclusive bonus interview with Mudhoney front man Mark Arm, recorded especially for the release of the DVD this summer in Seattle. Liner notes for the DVD were written by renowned journalist Stevie Chick.

NOSAJ THING DROPS NEW TRACK "ECLIPSE/BLUE"

NOSAJ THING DROPS NEW TRACK "ECLIPSE/BLUE" VIA THE FADER

ANNOUNCES 10" DUE IN OCTOBER

NEW ALBUM HOME COMING IN 2013 ON INNOVATIVE LEISURE

Nosaj Thing photo by Mikey T
"Nosaj Thing has a style that would make him fit in comfortably in both an art museum and behind the board at a Drake recording session" - LA TIMES

It's been three years since the release of Nosaj Thing's highly acclaimed debut album, Drift (Alpha Pup), which topped countless Best Of Year Lists, but 2013 will mark a new chapter for the 27-year-old producer, musician and DJ from Los Angeles.  With a new album, label and imprint (Timetable) for Innovative LeisureHome marks the first time Nosaj has incorporated guest vocalists.  Having remixed and worked with the likes of The XX, Flying Lotus, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Beck & Kendrick Lamar, it was time to incorporate a few collaborations of his own with Toro y Moi and Kazu Makino (Blonde Redhead) providing ethereal vocals for two of the tracks on Home. The rest of the album is rounded with Nosaj's signature cinematic soundscapes that explore the space from where Drift left off.

Now, hear "Eclipse/Blue feat. Kazu Makino (Blonde Redhead)," our first taste from Home. Set to be released as a 10" single next month on Timetable, the song sees Nosaj Thing retaining his signature sound while simultaneously pushing new boundaries with his song craft. Check it out below.
