LAND OBSERVATIONS "ROMAN ROADS IV – XI"

DEBUT ALBUM - ROMAN ROADS IV – XI

RELEASE DATE:  SEPTEMBER 4th, 2012

Mute are pleased to announce the signing of Land Observations, and news of the debut release, Roman Roads IV - XI, out on September 4th, 2012.

Land Observations is the solo project of James Brooks, which debuted at the Short Circuit, presents Mute Festival at the Roundhouse in May 2011.

Brooks’ previous band, Appliance, released four critically acclaimed albums on Mute before disbanding. Since then, Brooks has developed his visual and audio art with various shows across the UK, North America and Europe (his current exhibition, The Information Exchange, is at Domobaal, London, WC1 until August 2012).

Throughout, music has remained a constant, with Brooks now connecting his conceptual approaches to instrumental musical compositions.

Attempts to develop a new project alongside the visual art meant that Brooks did a lot of home recording at his flat in Hackney, East London.

Land Observations, developed out of an interest in the former Roman roads that lay just a short walk from his front door - roads of communication and conquest that stretch from the old City of London and out across parts of Britain, Europe and beyond.

Land Observations witnesses Brooks exploring the power of minimalism via layered, repetitive electric VI string guitar – creating warm, evocative instrumentals.

Although Brooks spent considerable time researching Roman Roads-, with each of the compositions responding to the psychogeography of an individual road - this is not just a historical project, or an attempt to look only into the past. There is an obvious fascination with Roman Roads as man made structures, with their bold lines carving through the landscape, creating an album that's a reflection on the broader ideas of travel, momentum and progress.

Roman Roads IV - XI is released on Mute on CD, vinyl and download, with packaging featuring original drawings by Brooks.

The album was recorded at the Bridge and Tunnel Mobile, Berlin and engineered and mixed by Mark Bihler and James Brooks.

SCARLETT JOHANSSON AND LULU GAINSBOURG COVER

SCARLETT JOHANSSON AND LULU GAINSBOURG COVER SERGE'S
'BONNIE AND CLYDE'

LULU GAINSBOURG'S FROM GAINSBOURG TO LULU DEBUT LP OUT OCT. 30 FEATURING RUFUS  WAINWRIGHT, JOHNNY DEPP + VANESSA PARADIS,
 IGGY POP, AND MORE

Download 'Bonnie and Clyde' at SoundCloud (Available to Post)

Scarlett Johansson has teamed up with Lulu Gainsbourg, son of iconic French artist Serge Gainsbourg and Bambou (actress, model and singer), to release a unique cover of 'Bonnie and Clyde.' The single is the first track to be released in the US from Lulu's tribute album to his father, and will be available via ITunes on July 31st. Slated for an October 30 release with MBM Records, From Gainsbourg to Lulu is a special collection of covers handpicked by Lulu, including collaborations with Rufus Wainwright, Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis, Iggy Pop, and more. Lulu and several guests on the album will perform select shows in NYC this winter.

Born Lucien Gainsbourg, Lulu is the half-brother to world-renowned actress and singer Charlotte Gainsbourg. He started playing piano when he was five years old and later attended the Music Conservatory of Paris at the age of eight. Accepted into Berklee College in 2007, Lulu composed a song for French singer and actor Marc Lavoine's 2009 album Volume 10 during his term, and assisted Beck who produced his sister's third studio album entitled IRM.
From Gainsbourg to Lulu is a project that he considers as a heartfelt gift to his father. Lulu took it upon himself to select the tracks he knew would best pay homage to his father's work, as well as reach out directly to all of the guest artists himself to bring the album together. Working on the release was a labor of love for Lulu, who acted mainly as a producer/director, skillfully crafting each song with his own influence to compliment the guests. Now a graduate of Berklee, and off the back of a successful release in France to critical acclaim, Lulu is permanently living in New York and ready to spread his new legacy in the US.

Alessi's Ark "Notes From The Treehouse"

From Alessi:

'Notes from the Tree House' has been released for the first time in the U.S this month. I hope you enjoy these older songs!

To celebrate and piece together something new with something older, I invite you to re-imagine a new album cover for 'Notes from the Tree House'.  I'll be teaming up with the music design contest site Creative Allies to hold the contest and reward the best design - visit HERE to check it out.  Get inspiration by streaming the album exclusively on Spotify, before it's released digitally with the new cover later this year (UK friends, you can still stream it here).

I hope you find fun to be had and am excited to see where the pen/pencil/brush takes you!

Martha Wainwright reveals details of forthcoming album

Martha Wainwright reveals details of forthcoming album

Come Home To Mama due 10/16 on V2/Cooperative Music

Produced by Yuka C Honda, and written by Martha Wainwright, Come Home To Mama (V2 / Cooperative Music) is an emotional rollercoaster that dazzles throughout.

Recorded earlier this year in New York City, mostly at Sean Lennon's home studio, Come Home To Mama has the passionate angst of her 2005 debut coupled with the twisted pop of 2008's I Know You're Married But I've Got Feelings Too.

In the past, Martha worked with husband Brad Albetta but this time out chose Yuka C Honda (Cibo Matto) to add a feminine touch. Her husband, Wilco guitarist Nels Cline, provides the musical thread throughout this captivating disc.

Guest musicians include Thomas Bartlett, keyboards; Brad Albetta, bass and drummer Jim White.

"Making this record was a totally different experience," Martha says. "Yuka's approach was very open. Sometimes I would just demo the song, singing in the closet which served as the vocal booth, then she would build the track around that. In other instances we would jam with a few musicians and try to get a live take.

"This record is a culmination of my life experiences so far. Everything changed for me a couple years ago and this record is a representation of that and a return to the reason I started writing songs," she adds. "I can't wait to hit the road with my family and new band in tow."

Full tracklisting for Come Home To Mama

2. Can You Believe It
3. Radio Star
4. Proserpina
5. Leave Behind

Taken By Trees Release New Video for "Dreams"

Taken By Trees Release New Video for "Dreams" Other Worlds out October 2 on Secretly Canadian

Taken By Trees has released a new video for the track "Dreams" today at Gawker. "Dreams" is the first single off of Taken By Trees' forthcoming album, Other Worlds. The piece was shot & directed by Amanda Marsalis, who worked closely with Trees' mastermind Victoria Bergsman while Bergsman recorded in Hawaii.

If the track itself is what Baeble Music calls a "Hammock Simulator," the video is a full-on Vacation Holodeck. Marsalis presents the viewer with a vicarious yet astonishingly intimate exploration of the Hawaiian landscape led by Bergsman herself. The lush plant life, beachscapes and gorgeous sunsets are all on stunning display. Marsalis says, "Victoria and I created an intimate dream world in Hawaii. The final piece is a true collaboration."

The 12" single for "Dreams" is available for pre-order now and features the album version, an extended instrumental and dub version of the track. Other Worlds will be released October 2 on Secretly Canadian.

Taken By Trees will play a handful of US shows this summer, performing later this month at Gorilla vs Bear II in Dallas as well as the food & music party Noisette sponsored by Noise Pop in San Francisco. Victoria herself will DJ at The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA on August 24 as part of the PLAY MOCA Festival, a multimedia event series with performances by Cults and Lord Huron and visuals by Emmett Malloy. The group will then play a special record release party with guests Big Search at LA's Bootleg Theater on September 26 before heading out on tour with Jens Lekman this fall. Full dates are listed below.

PRAISE FOR TAKEN BY TREES
"Utterly transportive"
-GORILLA VS. BEAR

"Blissful pop" -STEREOGUM

"Lending her shy detachment to Peter Bjorn and John's world-conquering "Young Folks", she participated in a moment likely to define Swedish pop for many casual listeners…[East of Eden is] a masterful, hypnotic album that draws on a world of influences but is ultimately limited by none."
-PITCHFORK

"She transforms a Sufi song into a lullaby, and like her simultaneously near-and-distant voice, turns a faraway place into home." -FILTER

--- STEREOGUM

"Maxïmo Park have always been best at their fastest, when they sprint through verses into choruses and back out again just as quickly. That's thanks mostly to singer Paul Smith, who has a unique ability to slip into controlled mania like a jockey cracking a whip.”

NEW YORK, NY, July 20, 2012 - Maximo Park, the double platinum powerhouse from New Castle, is back with not only vengeance but the new release of their 4th album “The National Health” via Straight To The Sun Records (part of The Musebox Label Group), which was released digitally on July 3 with a physical release date of August 28, and will be supported by their first tour in five years including eight US dates.  Maximo Park has announced today that the supporting acts for their US tour dates will include Stagnant Pools, Zambri, and the buzzed about LA quintet The Neighbourhood.

To celebrate Maximo Park’s latest release and US tour dates, the band has partnered with Straight To The Sun Records to offer an exclusive concert ticket bundle that includes: one ticket to the US show date of your choice, free album download and autographed physical album.

Maximo Park ticket bundle via Straight To The Sun Records is available below until August 31, 2012:

“The National Health” is a compilation of 13 invigorated, lyrically rich tracks that manifest a fresh twist on the band’s signature power-pop anthems.  Since taking the world by storm in 2005 with their critically acclaimed opus “A Certain Trigger,” followed by “Our Earthly Pleasures” (2007) and “Quicken the Heart” (2009) and selling over 2 million records world wide to date, Newcastle’s mavens of jittery, slick pop will be embarking on a US trek of select cities this fall in support of their latest brainchild “The National Health”, a joint venture between the band’s own Daylighting Records label and brand new North American label Straight To The Sun Records, a part of the Musebox Label Group.

Maximo Park’s Paul Smith says, "we’ve been waiting for a few years to make our return to North America and now, with “The National Health” under our belts, we’re pleased to announce some new dates! The new album is a crowd-pleasing blockbuster (in our not so humble opinion!) so spread the word and let’s make these shows special. We assure our American friends we’ll make it up to them with a dose of pure, melodic, ROCK!”

Maximo Park also just released a brand new remix of their hit single “Hips and Lips” by Linton Brown, which is now available as a free mp3 download.  Be the first to share it with your online readers here:

Asya & Chloe Formerly Of The Band Smoosh Announce New Project Chaos Chaos

Asya & Chloe Formerly Of The Band Smoosh Announce New Project Chaos Chaos
Support The Duo's Forthcoming EP Through Kickstarter

Chaos Chaos is Asy and Chloe (formerly of the band Smoosh). As Smoosh, Asy and Chloe put out three full-length albums. Their debut She Like Electric was released in 2004 was Asy was 12 years old and Chloe was only 10. Over the years the band toured with Pearl Jam, Death Cab for Cutie, Sleater-Kinney, Mates of State, Jimmy Eat World, Cat Power, Nada Surf and Sufjan Stevens, amongst others. The band also performed on Yo Gabba Gabba and Jimmy Kimmel Live. Currently, Asy and Chloe are currently hard at work on their new project finishing up an EPs worth of songs as Chaos Chaos which will be released early this fall. The Brooklyn-based duo just launched a Kickstarter campaign to support their recording efforts. Rewards range from digital copies of the EP to the opportunity to make a song with Chaos Chaos. Below is a statement from Asya and Chloe about their new project and their ever-evolving approaches to songwriting.

"We feel that it's time for a change. We won't be touring or playing any more shows as Smoosh, but have kept the Smoosh website and Facebook so that we can still communicate with you all about our past music. We're so excited to get our new music out to you guys. This is an adventure for us, we are trying to embody this idea of going all out with everything, including our everyday lives. We're changing ourselves -like the giant amoeba that is a 'chaos chaos'. In the Physics sense, this new name applies to us because our lives have been disordered. There is an amoeba at the core of our music, where the form is always changing, moving in different directions. The process has been so much fun and quite an adventure."
