Lyla Foy Is Playing The Bootleg Theatre On October 11th!
On US Tour + Playing CMJ Festival Next Week
New EP UMi Out Now
"Foy's songs are both lush and low-key, intimate and surprisingly intricate. She layers beats generously but carefully, alternating between buoyant and bittersweet" Pitchfork
"it's gentle, delicate stuff somewhere between folk and dream pop."—Brooklyn Vegan
Lyla Foy has premiered her ethereal new video for 'River' exclusively on Brooklyn Vegan. Foy described the concept of the video: "In a perfect world my music would always be heard with a visual element, especially film or something animated. We wanted to make a minimal but beautiful moving image which would enhance the song without crushing your imagination.".
It's a timely release as she's now on her US tour, which includes an appearance at CMJ Music Festival on Saturday the 17th for Flower Bookings showcase. The new EP UMi spans between the atmospheric He IsLost and River to the rousing musical arrangements and expectant melodies of Glow In The Dark andTiger to create a detailed insight into Lyla's new material.
UMi is an abbreviation of Ursa Minor, a constellation in the northern sky also known as Smaller She-Bear or Little Bear. The collection of songs reflects night time and is a direct contrast to Lyla's Sub-Pop debutMirrors The Sky, released in March 2014, whose image is daytime and daylight. The EP will be released digitally on 2nd October and vinyl copies, featuring an exclusive bonus track Blue Door.
UMi Track Listing
1. Beginning It All Again
2. Glow In The Dark
3. River
4. Right To Be
5. Tiger
6. He Is Lost
Lyla Foy has spent much of the last year touring throughout Europe and America with the last six months spent working on her new recordings. Originally under the moniker WALL, Lyla Foy released her self-produced debut album Mirrors The Sky under her own name, receiving glowing praise across radio, print and online media, including the likes of Pitchfork and 6Music's Steve Lamacq. Her new EP will be the first new material released since Spring 2014 and she is also currently working on her second album.
Having toured with the likes of The National, Sharon Van Etten, Midlake and Phosphorescent, along with playing festivals including Glastonbury and End Of The Road, Lyla is back performing a run of shows in the USA next month and will be appearing at New York's CMJ festival, with shows still to be announced. from Rolling Up The Hill
Rolling Up The Hill, the new album from seasoned London-based singer-songwriter Beans on Toast, is his most creative record to date and it's an album all about friendship, travel and art. It's also about drinking, protesting and growing older in these strange modern times. The first track lifted from the album is "The Great American Novel," Beans' love letter to America. Watch the video HERE. Photo: Jem Mitchel |
His seventh studio album in the same amount of years will be released as usual on his birthday,December 1, via Xtra Mile Recordings (Frank Turner, Against Me!, Mineral). Rolling Up The Hill(pre-order) was recorded this past August in Kansas with husband and wife country duo Truckstop Honeymoon. Beans met the duo at Larmer Tree festival last year, and after hanging out and playing some shows with them in New Orleans they hatched a plan to go to The Ninth Ward Picking Parlour in Lawrence, KS to make an album together. The duo brings together double bass, mandolin and finger-picking sounds to Beans on Toast's unique and signature art of songwriting. Of course, though, they were joined by longtime partner in crime Bobby Banjo, on harp and banjo for the sessions. Throw in a couple of Kansas players dropping in some horns and some drums and you've got a Beans on Toast album that is fresh, fun and exciting while at the same time not losing any of the original cheap and easy English attitude that has gotten him to where he is today.
Ten years in the game and Beans has built up something of an underground following around the world, and is now filling out festival fields and tents on the UK circuit along with constantly touring new and foreign land. This year alone he's played shows on rooftops in Cape Town, tropical islands in the Barbados, folk festivals in Canada and covered over 10,000 miles in the U.S. He also toured the fringes on the UK in the wake of the terrible result at this year's election, taking in the mood of the country by visiting Harlow, Preston, Chester and the like. He has, of course, written songs all about these travels.
As usual Beans on Toast made the album he wanted to make, an album with no rules and no one to impress - just simple, opinionated songs about honest subjects.
Beans on Toast will be making the following North American appearances, both solo and supportingFrank Turner. Tour dates below.
